  1. MSC ARMONIA crashed into the dock in Roatan, Honduras. Took out a large section of the dock and ran aground briefly. No damage estimate yet but damage is visible from shore. This might have implications for any cruise ship docking there in the near future. Port could be canceled or might have to tender.

  2. I've been on a cruise where the entire ship was chartered by a group and I've also been on a cruise where about half the ship was chartered. No problem encountered on those cruises. Sometimes it was humorous as the ship staff didn't know at first that we all from Dallas. Slowly they caught on.

  3. I find that story hard to believe. You would have broken Federal law by embarking in Baltimore and disembarking in Charleston. The law is the Jones Act, and it prohibits a foreign-flagged vessel from transporting a passenger from one port in the USA to another, without first calling on a "distant foreign port."

Carnival is not keen on breaking laws, so if you managed to hop off in Charleston they sure would not be honoring the Vacation Guarantee, which would have provided you a refund. Someone is going to be paying a fine in that case. Perhaps Carnival kept your money and paid the fine for you?

Jones Act violations happen frequently. The fine is small. Memory is hazy but $20-30 per person seems to ring a bell. In any case I am sure it's less than $100 pp. Depending on circumstances, paid by person or cruise line. Fine could be included in cruise ticket price when itinerary has consecutive US ports.

  4. I too enjoy karaoke both to participate and also for the entertainment. Sometimes as a previous poster said, it is quite humorous. On a recent cruise, Dream in February, there were several men performers who surprisingly were professional quality. One even impersonated the original singer. Their music was better than the shows in the main showroom. SRO every night and one of the few things I enjoyed on the entire cruise.

  5. Past suite passengers, I would love your thoughts on the value for the $$ for Neptune suites. We are sailing on the Oosterdam in June currently in a VE Balcony for 12 days in Europe. We've been contemplating upgrading, but Signature Suites and Neptunes have been sold out for sometime. Today 4 Neptunes opened up, but it's a $2500pp upgrade. Was hoping for a signature, but no luck. The perks are cool, but not needed for $5K. Is the room and balcony worth it for those of you that have stayed there? We've loved mini suites on other lines and suites on Windstar. But truthfully we've never spent a lot of time in the room on previous cruises. Just wondering if it would be different in a suite with large balcony. Many thanks!

I think you answered your own question. "We've never spent a lot of time in the room on previous cruises". So, not worth it.

  7. FYI. Unless recently changed, both Luggage Direct and VIP services are domestic only. FedEx is also a possibility that I don't think has been mentioned in this thread. Everything will be delivered right to your front door. I've used this service, no problems.

  8. Personally, I haven't had any problems getting my new pins. I have received 2*, 3* and 4* during the cruise on the day I earned it and usually placed on the bed in the evening. Obviously, the procedure for handing out pins is not, but should be, standard throughout the HAL fleet. The manner in which one gets his/her pin is anyones guess. I've been lucky.

  9. I too think the cabins are identical. The only difference I can see is possibly location. On WC17, my wife and I were in a veranda. Two cabins down the hallway, my wife's sister was in a Vista Suite. Cabins seemed to be identical. Our cabin was toward the bow and close to the entrance for the forward elevator. Sister-in-law's cabin more midship And between the elevators.
