  1. I've been checking in on my cruise on NCL and for the past month the price had jumped ($400 for an inside room) and it was showing the sail-away rooms as sold out and there were still inside rooms available. Today when I looked, the price has fallen about $200 and it shows all the inside rooms sold out and only sail-away rooms available...
Have folks been upgrading and that's why? Can't quite wrap my brain around it! LOL

    TIA

The NCL site will only show you a maximum of 15 rooms available in any given category, so it is not at all an accurate way of calculating the remaining inventory. There are other travel agency sites that will show you all of the available rooms, though the site I use will only show you a maximum of 100 in a given category, so for some of the balcony categories on the larger ships, it's still not completely accurate.

care to share one of the sites??

  3. Trying to figure stuff out here...

How do you know how full/empty the ship is? I've got an inside family cabin on the Escape for 9/1...I've gone on to NCL and looked and the price of our cabin has gone up $400...it doesn't show sold out, so how do I know how many are left and does that have anything to do with the bidding process? I know I won't hear anything until June about bidding (IF I do) so I'm pretty early to the party but any advice/info is appreciated.

    Thanks.

  4. I lost my husband 2.5 years ago. Sept is my first cruise without him, but I did invite my best friend and my brother-in-law and sister-in-law so I won't be cruising solo. Maybe someday in the future...I'm sure after this one, my best friend will fall in love with cruising, too!

I belong to a few widow's groups on FB that have helped a lot.

I like the idea of a widow's cruise!

  5. I'm so sorry for your loss. My husband died in October of 2016, and like you, we both enjoyed cruising so much. I decided this year that I was going to go again. I invited my sister-in-law and brother-in-law and my best friend. We sail Sept 1 and I am so excited.
I personally am not sure how I would handle a solo cruise but maybe some day in the future. I applaud you for embarking on this journey (pun intended).

If you need someone to talk to, just holler.

An extra pair of reading glasses. Both NCL cruises I’ve taken did not have them in the gift shop and I was told that they no longer carry them.

The lost & found at the service desk had tons- never had mine turned in

Good thinking! My first cruise I only used readers and wore them on my head when not in use, walked to the stern and a gust of wind took them to a watery grave - next cruise I had two pair with me!

The drinks are all available without the souvenir glasses. If you have the package then they just assume you just want the drink. The glass isn’t covered by the UBP, so if you did want it then you get charged the full cost for the glass.

Thanks! That's what I assumed but we all know what happens when one assumes!

  8. This was from a review I read from July 2018:
"The pools(both kiddie and adult) are small and lounge chairs in those areas are hard to get(we wud get to adult pool by 7am and still not get the choice lounge chairs close to the pool) Earlier reviewers mentioned lounge hogs placing towels on loungers and not coming back for hours/if ever.. well NCL personnel were "tagging" those chairs and if owners weren't back in an hour-their towels and belongings were removed and brought to guest services-so that was a improvement!"

Not sure if this is still the case, but one can hope!

NCL only runs a free ferry to St. George’s. For Hamilton you would have to take the public ferry.

Thanks for the info. That's what I suspected!

DH refuses to go to the buffet but I am going to try to remember to try one or two of these.  When are they available or do they have them all day?  I would want one probably in afternoon or evening.

Later in the evening after the show, my husband would always want a slice of pizza and that gave me an excuse to get a crepe! So so good!!

  11. Depends on what you like to do...St. Georges is a ferry ride away and is full of historical buildings and re-enactments, Hamilton has shopping and an art museum, the island is known for it's golf courses if you play and of course the beaches! There are the Crystal Caves, and aquarium, the Swizzle Inn (home of the Rum Swizzle), King's Wharf has shopping and a museum...Lots of things to do! Check more of the boards here and you'll find lots!

Have fun! I'll be back there for the 4th time in Sept!

Be sure to look up on the port side to see the clear section of the waterslide and the starboard side to see "the plank".

Ha! I will certainly remember that!

2 years ago I sailed on the Disney Magic, rode the water slide not realizing half of it was clear...it was one of those "bottom drops out on you" slides which basically gave you an atomic wedgie...my girlfriends were dying of laughter when I landed...so I made them do it next!
