  1. Those who live near the area will need to know your price range to really be able to help with your search. Hotels run from the low $100s to close to $1000/night!

I've been searching for my August cruise...and I like to stay in downtown Miami only because I'm not into the beach scene. Hotels near the port will drastically vary in price. I've stayed at the InterContinental, the Hyatt Regency, the Downtown Hilton and the Doubletree Grand Biscayne. I've liked them all for differing reasons....but my favorite so far has been the InterContinental.

Do a search in on the CC sister site, Trip Advisor. It's full of information and reviews as well as prices!

For what it's worth, there are a couple new hotels opening soon near the port....one is The Langford and another is the ME Melia. I'm keeping my eyes open for reviews once they open!!

  2. Renee, that is what I thought you had meant.

Yes, my advice to everyone is always to check at the desk to see if the room is ready. If it is I always find that hotels will check you in but it's just not something we ever count on.

    Hi Keith-

This was the first time in all my sailings from Miami...that I was able to check in to any hotel so early! My nephew was actually the "Customer of the Day" and was upgraded to a huge suite!! It was fabulous! I loved the hotel....but right now the prices are more than $300 for a city view double!! I scored the Viceroy on Cyber Monday for about $166 ...and that includes taxes!!

BTW...what do you think about the Viceroy....and where would you recommend going in the area without a car?

  3. Just wondering what you mean by contrary what you were reading.

If it was about check in most of us will say about the IC as we say about any hotel is that when you arrive see if you can check in but since check in time is not until the afternoon if a room is not ready then they will hold your luggage for you.

Yes, like any hotel sometimes you arrive early and your room is ready but often it is not.

    Keith

I read a lot about the IC not letting people check in until 4 pm....that's all! I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at 11:00 and was able to check in. I will look for those reviews and place a link (if I can figure out how)!

  4. Just want to say that I stayed at the IC in September and contrary to what I had been reading, we were able to check in at 11:00!! Our room was ready!! Made it so much easier than checking our luggage there (which they do for their guests)!!

Depending when you are cruising, the Hop On Hop Off is a great way to get around....but it was super hot in September up top and no AC for the lower level!! If it's too hot, I'd taxi it to SB...at least you can pop into stores or the water to cool off!!

  5. I don't know the hotel but I dislike the location.

Are there other choices? I've found The Catalina, The Essex, and the The Clay Hotel to be good deals.

Thanks - I'll check those out! I'm currently booked at the Vicroy....but South Beach is so beautiful! I just don't want to be in the middle of all the parties! I'm a very light sleeper and heard the area South of Fifth was peaceful which is why I was looking there!

I'll be sailing solo....so I want to be safe. I'm from metro Detroit so I know how to walk smart...not after dark, etc.....but I do enjoy walking around!

  6. Yes, the area is very safe for you to walk around by yourself. There is a Starbucks at mary Brickell village if you want that specifically. Otherwise Cafe Icon is right on the pool deck and you could grab something right there. There is also a bagel place up 5th or a great French bakery called Atelier Monnier a couple blocks up on Brickell at 848 Brickell.

Thanks so much! I will now officially stop looking for a better deal!! And the bagel place sounds like the place for me!! Now if August would only get here quicker!!

  7. OMG the Viceroy!! The 35th floor is the pool level and has three pools (one is 300 feet long!) plus multiple restaurants, bars, and recreational areas with the most stunning views of Biscayne Bay you've ever seen!

It is a gorgeous, luxury hotel! My absolute favorite in downtown Miami.

It's also walking distance to Mary Brickell Village.

I got an absolute great deal at the Viceroy for my August cruise on Cyber Monday....$154.00 all in! I will be traveling alone and have never stayed in this area......the closest I've been in the IC. Is this area safe for me to walk around on my own (I'm sure it is....just need confirmation)? I don't mind a couple block walk to Mary Brickell Village....but is there anything nearby - like a Starbucks - where I can grab a quick breakfast?

  8. Just my 2 cents....

We stayed last September at the Intercontinental Downtown. While they don't offer balconies, they had great suites with beautiful views of the bay and cruise terminal.

    A couple good things:

We stayed in a club level suite and had snacks and alcohol free of charge in the Club room in the evenings and a pretty decent breakfast in the mornings.

The hotel is adjacent to Bayfront Park....and a short walk thru the park took us directly to Bayside Market. We walked thru during the day as well as the evening without any problems.

We also love Bubba Gumps...and always have our arrival day meal there! Being from Metro Detroit, we have to drive 5 hours to Chicago to eat at one....so I understand your wanting to go there!! Unfortunately the Midwest isn't known for their seafood!!

    Have a great cruise!!

  9. We [emoji170] the aft PH suites - balconies are the BEST!! We have done them on the Breakaway and Getaway with the Escape booked.

Yes.....it's is a walk to the Haven but we don't mind the exercise and we get to see different parts of the ship as we make our way there! [emoji4]

When we stayed IN the Haven on the Epic we loved that too - but only left the Haven area for dinners and shows. When we got off we felt like we'd missed a lot that the ship had to offer - because we just never got out to see it! [emoji20]

    Thanks....and I really don't mind walking!:D

I have stayed in the Haven in a 2-BR, and I enjoyed it but I felt the same way when we were in the GV on the Jewel! Rarely left the suite...and almost feel like a never saw the ship!!

  10. Thanks for the info folks. I'm hoping they will see reason in allowing our friends to tag along when we are "escorted" to our suites, since their cabin is right by mine. I guess I'll just wing it. It won't make or break my happy cruise either way.

To be honest, this is my 8th time sailing in a suite and the only time I was ever "escorted" directly to my suite was when we were in the Garden Villa on the Jewel. Every other time we were taken to Cagney's (or its equilivent). They won't take your friend with you to Cagney's, but they will probably let her/him board the ship with you....and then go in their merry way!! ;)

Like you said, it won't make or break your cruise...and that's a great attitude! Have a fantabulous sailing!!

  11. I'm sailing in 6 days....aft penthouse. I'm also curious as to location of your suite. I've never sailed aft before...nor been so far from the Haven!

I've prebooked a couple restaurants, and one of them was not Le Bistro! I've eaten there on prior cruises and never felt that WOW factor like some have reported in the past. I am hoping though, that Moderno is good! I'm not a huge meat eater and typically pay to only have the salad bar in restaurants such as this...but right now a lamb chop sounds good!!

    Thanks for the review!!

  12. Worst case scenario.....you pay taxes on all your cocktails from the UBP! I'd just be happy to finally be on the ship. Besides, they may have padded the time as a "just in case" and may leave earlier. I'm sure no one will complain if the ship leaves at 8 instead of midnight!

    One more week!!:D

  13. I just upgraded myself from a forward PH to an aft PH 18 days prior to my sailing. I debated doing this because they didn't offer any discount at all and there were still 6 aft PH available. I decided to pony-up....and I'm glad I did!! All the aft suites sold out a couple days ago!
