  1. They look almost as nasty as fish flies in Michigan in mid-June! Be-yuck!! The swarms get so thick in the air and on the ground and when you drive over them, they snap, crackle and pop....and make the roads more slick than ice! I don't go anywhere near the water until fish fly season is over!

  2. Hello!

I was think of traveling from Miami to Fort Lauderdale the day before my cruise as my flight arrives at 0930 am. I've never been to Fort Lauderdale and not sure if there is really anything to do there and would have to take a taxi. Anyone know what the approximate cost would be? Is there anything in Fort Lauderdale that shouldn't be missed?! Great restaurant for lunch worth trying?

We've been to Miami a number of times...Miami Beach as well. Just looking for something new to do/see. :D

    Thanks!!!

  3. I just looked up the address of this Homewood Suites on Google Earth and it seems so far removed from everything! Is there anything nearby to do/see?

I'm also looking at the new Hampton Inn on 17th in Miami Beach. The website said "opening in March" a bit of time back and now the website shows opening in April! Not taking reservations yet, nor able to answer my questions when I call (whomever answered is not from the area, of course)or email. I'm curious about the area of Miami Beach. Is it quiet or in the midst of all the partying?!

I just can't make up my mind about our post-cruise hotel. We are currently booked at the Hampton Inn Brickell.....but we want to be close to "things" so we're not taking public transportation too much! Any other suggestions? We want a good hotel for not too steep of a price (<$200/night) for September. I thought for sure the prices would start to creep down....but they all seems to be holding. ;)

  4. I've sailed three times on the Sky in OS...twice in 8201 and once in 8001. The room is fabulous and the extra half bath is great for guests! There's a little nook near the half bath that's the connecting door for the suite next door...we store our luggage there! It's out of the way and never moves even when the seas get slightly rough! I love to sit on the deck on a bar stool and lean on the railing and watch the world go by!

Planning a return trip next year on the Sky. Every time I plan on an aft suite, I always end in up the OS!!:o

  5. We did an airboat/gator tour thru the ship, but it was only 4 hours. Once we got back to the port, we grabbed the bus that does continuous trips to and from Cocoa Beach and went to Ron Jons Surf Shop and walked around the beach. I can't remember for sure, but I think the bus ticket was about $3 round trip for adults and free for my girls (8 & 10 at the time) and it dropped off right by Ron Jons. We picked the bus back up right by the beach. You will see a lot of cruise ship employees on the bus as well. The driver told everyone as they were getting off what time the last bus would be.

No, not my favorite port, but we did find things to pass the time for not a whole lot of money.

  6. When do the prices for the IC start to come down?! I'm on their website and still seeing it start at $190 for a city view and $217 for a bay view. I think that's still a little steep when it doesn't include anything like breakfast! Also heard that they charge guests to hold their luggage until check-in! Anyone know if that's true?

We are currently booked at the Hampton Inn Brickell....for a lot less!! ;)

  7. Will the YVE hold luggage? Our flight arrives at 10:00 am...and I don't want to drag luggage around Miami for hours! The InterContinental holds it, but I believe there is a fee to do so. :( It is in a great location!

  8. Yes we do think alike but everyone loves Adrian for the same reason. I have had other concierges say make your reservations, etc. This cruise I did not pre make any reservations for any shows or restaurants. He just made everything happen like it was the simplest thing to do.

He has a cult following too. So many passengers love him from other cruises that there is always a flock around the concierge desk.

Do you think Adrian will still be on the Getaway in September? I'd really like to meet this guy!!

  9. Take a look at the Courtyard Marriott Coconut Grove. It is on the water (across the street) and it overlooks the Marina and Biscayne Bay. You can walk to Montys and Scotty's Landing (both waterfront dining with great happy hours) plus it is just a gorgeous area. The tree lined streets are fantastic for walking or running. You are also a short walk from Cocowalk for some great shopping and dining.

I knew I could count on you!! I was looking at that hotel...but wanted to make sure it was in a safe, walkable area!! :D

I know some people don't appreciate your upfront attitude about safe areas....but I certainly do!!

  10. We (sister and I) are flying in to MIA on Friday, 9/18 and cruising out of Miami the next day. Our flight arrival was changed and arrival time is now 930 am. We've sailed out of Miami several times and have always stayed downtown. We are staying two nights post cruise at the Epic so we will be exploring Brickell then.

I am looking for advice for a new pre-cruise hotel (not South Beach) location. I don't know anything about Coral Gables or Coconut Grove (or other recommended area) and I'd like to stay at or less than $200 a night, but if it's really, really worth it, I'd be willing to go a little higher. We'd like to have sights to see within walking distance as well. I've been scouring Trip Advisor and other sights, but I trust the CC members who are from this area who are in the know!

Dreaming of warmth and sunshine (-9*F here with way too much snow).

  11. The concierge that was on the sky when we where on was Karin [my DH remembered her name]. It has been over a year now since we have been on this ship so I guess she is not there. If any one know what ship she is on now if she is still with NCL I would love to know. She was our favorite.

We had Karin last August as well!! She never missed a beat!

  12. I thought the Getaway was going to be too big for me. But ... as it turns out it wasn't the size at all that I noticed... it's the sheer number of venues across the ship that is daunting at times. There was simply so many places to go do things that it was impossible to see it all.

The biggest difference I felt was in the overall design of the ship, with two huge banks of elevators at the fore and aft, and nothing in the center. When not on the pool deck, you tend to spend a lot of time on decks 6,7, and 8 and it was easy to get turned around and walk to the wrong bank of elevators occasionally. No big deal, it just meant a long walk from one end to the other to get to our cabin we took the other elevator by mistake.

Thanks for the info! Our cabin is all the way forward...so I guess I'll plan on burning off some calories when I use the wrong bank of elevators!!! ;) We booked with the UDP, UBP and OBC.....going to be a lot of empty calories going in!!
