Filed under "the more you know!".  And yes, this is exactly the sort of nerdy detail I love. 😅

For some reason had it in my head that all of MSC's current fleet had been built specifically for them, but always happy to be corrected.

Preziosa was built for Gadaffi and his family complete with a shark tank, when they fell from grace MSC bought the ship as it was the same hull as Fantasia, Splendida and Divina.

Ah, weather… the curse of captains and seafarers for centuries has struck again! Too dangerous for tendering to grand cayman due to wind and the port authority has closed the port. No suitable alternatives nearby due to same weather conditions. The entertainment staff are scrambling to redo today’s programming. DH is super bummed. ☹️

    Stay tuned!

Had the same story from GC when we were there in 2008 but on the Ruby Princess, the Captain said on the PA that he disagreed with the port authorities but had to accept their decision so we ended up with a sea day.

Last December we had a low of 10F and a high of 65F, so your guess is as good as any New Yorker. The average Hi/Low was 49/38 last year for the month.

The best bet is a yellow cab from JFK which is a flat fee plus tip and toll but yellow cab you can direct them to not take a toll route unlike livery or ride share. Dial 7 car service would be around $90 plus tip and any toll.

Even in December, the NYC Ferry will run from Pier 11 Wall Street to Red Hook just yards away from the ship. The ferry is heated so that is an option for you at $4 a person. There are plenty of threads here about it.

Options are the same  Uber, Yellow Cab or Car Service.

Thanks for the info, we thought about the Ferry to RH but was not sure if it stopped close to the ship terminal. We have an option to fly in to Newark but that looks further away from the Wall street area.

  4. We are looking at a Xmas cruises from NYC return to the Bahamas via Port Canaveral on the Meraviglia which we have sailed on at Xmas 2019 from Miami, looking for advice on average weather conditions in NYC around this time being Winter. Also any suggestions on transport and costs from JFK to the Financial district Hotel and Hotel to Red Hook port in Brooklyn ?

Pay the 100 bucks more, but that is just me. Of course the lack of specialty labor force and supply chain problems are another subject, but that is for another day.

Hi Nuna ,,,, This of course is not helped when MSC fail to offer new contracts to long time workers who have now gone to other cruise lines, some of whom look after their employees better.

  6. The price you are being offered to bid at takes into account items that you already have booked, such as drink packages. Aurea has my time dining which means you can go within the opening hours of the restaurant you are allocated. Your assistance while boarding should not be affected either, priority boarding is usually within your allotted time which could be say 2pm, that means you will board the ship after YC and before Fantastica and Bella guests.

And there I was thinking I was doing a wonderful job of keeping my usual potty mouth in check. Whoops. 😅

Sadly the edit timeout on that post is long past….

😁 I saw on a different Deck plan that Butchers Cut was shown as being where Il Campo Dining room is on Virtuosa ie the same side as the TV Bar and Lounge, as you mentioned that the BC has now changed names is it now on the Starboard side as above or is it still where BC is on Virtuosa ie the Port side ?

  8. Good to hear your cruise is going well, interesting changes to some of the venues you have mentioned like no Butchers cut, hope the last day is also good for you.

Not sure this comment below was the right thing to say on these boards .... 😁

but that requires a cash deposit rather than just a link to a credit card, so bollocks to that.

  9. This issue is also being reported on other social media.

My wife and I are in YC on Seascape right now There is a growing problem with some YC guests who try and cheat the system and diminish the value of the experience by sneaking relatives and friends in who haven’t paid. Dining, drinking and using the pool and cabanas I spoke at length today with the YC director Taylor about it He showed me several pages of notes where the staff immediately addresses the guests and removes them
They are becoming ever more vigilant and so are guests like my wife and I If we see a YC guest gaming the system we will publicly call them out
Yacht Club is a great experience so if you plan to book it don’t be an A hole and try to sneak others in who haven’t paid the premium to be here and ruin it for those who play by the rules
I told him that MSC management should boot any guest that cheats and ban them from the cruise line
Harsh Yes but it will get the point across

Okay puzzled - we are booked on Seashore out of Port Canaveral for seven nights - itinerary we booked has first two days with an overnight at Ocean Cay - have not received any kind of communication from MSC yet - someone on this thread said that March 31, 2024 is now an 11 night cruise. Is that true? Do we know for sure? If we agree to this suggested change is MSC saying we will get 11 nights on March 31 for price we booked for the seven for? (When I search cruises for March/April 2024 no changes have been made yet, our original seven night is still being offered.)

Don't expect MSC to let you know, they change things around and don't even tell their staff who continue to sell the original cruises. They expect you to just notice when you check your booking.

  11. Hello all,

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve will be temporarily closed from April 7 through May 22, 2024 in order to make necessary guest experience enhancements and support the island’s future growth plans. Most Caribbean sailings are substituting the port with a different port of call in the Bahamas (Nassau/Freeport). However, some itineraries were extended, while other sailings were rescheduled or canceled. The impacted ships include: MSC Divina, MSC Meraviglia, MSC Seascape, and MSC Seashore. All impacted guests and travel partners will be notified of the change, which will be reflected in DTS by 7/5/2023 NOTE: while the reservations are being modified to display their new itinerary, they will be closed (locked) in DTS for any other changes MSC is offering the following options to Guests/TP (see attached sample TRADE letters being sent tonight – please ignore the formatting it is a platform hiccup but we tested and it is sending correctly): Cruise Move for free to any other Caribbean Summer 2024 sailing (April 1 to October 31, 2024) of same length and accommodation as the original one and MSC will honor the best price (original vs new). Cruise Move for free to any other sailing (prevailing rates will apply) Stay on current reservation with the modified itinerary (no action needed) Cancel for a full refund

  13. If you are not a member of any given club and just wander in you will be shown the door fairly rapid, the same should be true for the YC. YC prices are way up there and I would not be happy having paid over inflated prices for people to just wander in at will, little point having a private area for those who have paid the Premium prices to be there if MSC are just allowing people to wander in, same applies to  Aurea Top 19, if you want to be in those areas then pay for it.

I have the suspicion that MSC is running most of their ships at or near 100% capacity - especially now with bookings across the industry up considerably over last year.

So what would be the financial incentive to spend millions of dollars on the kinds of IT upgrades needed when it won’t help them fill their ships any more than they already are?

It would stop the complaints regarding various issues some of which I still see being reported here and on other platforms that were being complained about in 2012!

Their website has been broken for years.  For some reason fixing it doesn't seem very important to MSC

Taking your money is more important, got to pay for all the new ships and the YC Explorer ones as well.

Hi, we are diamond via status match. We are travelling on Virtuosa from Southampton and have been given a 1pm boarding time. Does priority boarding mean we can ignore and go for 10am when embarkation starts?

No, it means you will board before all those with a 1 pm boarding time.

  17. Hi Kernow,

We got off on Friday morning, waited 30 minutes at the ships exit due to the Border Force issue plus a problem with the air bridge, came out of the Terminal and it was already full with those waiting to board, clearly many had ignored their boarding times, got to our car at 9.30 and was lucky to get out of the car park before it became gridlocked. Our journey home took 8 hours. Food over our 12 days was very good In the MDR and Buffet, having disliked Meraviglia we were hoping that Virtuosa may have changed our minds on this class of MSC ship having sailed on all the other classes apart from Europa. Virtuosa is 16 metres longer than Mera and has over 100 cabins added but no extra public spaces and like Mera the Inside bar areas are too small, another downside is the lack of Aft lifts, if as we were you are on or near the back of the ship you have to walk almost half the length of the ship to the nearest lifts. Seaside which we sailed on twice and the Fantasia class for us will always be better than the Meraviglia class ships.
