  1. Go to Waikiki Beach and visit some of the hotel bars along the beach. Two of our favorites are the Mai Tai Bar at the Royal Hawaiian (Pink Palace) and the Banyan Court at the Moana Surf Rider. Both are on the beach and have music and hula most evenings. Order an exotic tropical drink and sit back and relax and enjoy.

I second these recommendations and add the halekulani - "house without a key" for their evening sunset cocktail show with a former miss America dancing. Stunningly lovely and you can watch the aforementioned mai tai catamaran cruise leave and come back!

And... this is a vote for doing the 10-12 night one way cruise to/from West coast of North America starting or ending in Honolulu. Then you can spend an extra week enjoying more of what Oahu offers.

  2. I wouldn't rent a car. Traffic is crazy there and public transit is good. Maitai sunset sail is fun. Check out hawaiifoodtours.com - I can't remember if they do an evening food tour? Lots of fun! Waikiki beach strip is very happening after the sun goes down. Just fun to walk and absorb all the action.

  3. We never go to Buffet on embarkation day, to crowded, unless you like crowds. We try to get on the ship at around 11:30 and go to the MDR for a nice peaceful lunch, no crowds in the MDR. Normally the Da Vinci dining room on deck 6 will be open from Noon to about 1:15, they say 1:30 but they close sooner.

  4. I have walked from pier 91 to PIke Place Market and much of the walk is through a park with some fun art and a rose garden and a dedicated paved walkway. There are parts of it that are a bit funny, especially close to the pier. It's hard to figure out where you're supposed to go, but once you find your way onto the pathway in the park it's lovely all along the water. I was tired after the walk and had used up some of my Pike Place Market energy! Had to take it easy smelling lots of flowers and sampling bits of market fare to recoup!

  5. I received referral credits and they tried to put them on a one night cruise I did with 11 friends (girlfriend getaway). No way could I use those! I asked them to remove them to a future cruise. Then I was left with just my stockholder credit which paid gratuities and a bottle of wine 3 of us shared with our lovely international cafe lunch upon boarding.

  6. Call it "the PNE". Yes you'll see veggies, and flowers, and miracle cloths, and cows, and fluffy chickens and dogs doing funny tricks. Yes of course edgey teens / young adults screaming and having fun. And the poutine food truck is worth a visit! Victoria has a fair too, but only the end of August.

  7. Does anyone know of any coupons or discounts available for the clipper from Seattle to Victoria? There are round trip deals originating in Victoria, that are cheaper than one way - wonder what happens if you don't show up for the first leg of the trip - does that void the return portion from seattle? I wonder if there are AAA rates or coupon book deals? Thanks!

  8. I really appreciate all of the suggestions. We had been planning to stay at Southampton Grand Hotel, but their policy has changed and they will not store luggage. Now we have some other suggestions ( thanks to all who replied), and will start contacting them. :)Mary

Mary, did you find storage? We are bringing bicycles in hard sided bike cases that we would like to store in Southampton while we do a bit of bicycle touring before/after a cruise. Let me know please if you found anything that didn't break the bank!
