I have only been on on cruise so far, but I am DEFINITELY a planner/researcher. I read everything I could about the ship, the ports, the excursions, etc. This is just my personality, really, but I like to be prepared so that I *can* relax once I'm onboard.
I will say this in your defense: because of my planning, I found two AWESOME port excursion recommendations that fulfilled all of our desires (gorgeous, clean, uncrowded beaches; fantastic pools; no children; tropical paradise), and frankly stunned my fellow cruisers (we went with two other couples) into silence. They had no idea these places even existed, and it really made our cruise. If I hadn't done any pre-planning, we maybe would have been lucky, but after hearing other people complain about the very things we were looking to avoid, I feel quite confident that I went the right route with the extensive research.
I suggest you allow yourself some time to indulge- and then give yourself a cut-off date! The last month, allow yourself to relax, knowing that you did some planning and that it's more important that you all have a good time. Over-stressing about details will ruin your vacation in a heartbeat. You'll also ruin the trip of anyone else who has to deal ehwith you in the preceding weeks and months. Plan a little, relax a LOT. Deep, slow breaths. You can do this!
What ports and what excursions? Sounds great enough to share! I'm the same... Lots of planning, but that's part of the joy of the trip is the dreaming!

Can just one in the cabin upgrade? We both had to chose the same initial perk.

I was chopping jalapeños at dinner and it's amazing how often I touch my face even when I'm very consciously trying not to!

Good suggestion husky61. A towne car through which company? There are 4 of us so we'll be close to that price using the shuttle.

Is there somewhere within walking distance of the world cruise center San Pedro to buy wine? Or.... did I read that there is a free shuttle from there to??? We're coming from LAX using supershuttle and would like to check our luggage at the ship, then walk to pickup up 2 bottles of wine.

The 7 beach clubs you toured in PV - is it possible to buy day passes do you know?

Oh, sheesh, I meant ATV. Yes, I read that randi had died. We rode with her years ago and that was my original plan, but the boys are older and I think they'd prefer quads to horses now. Thx for your response!

Just got back from the MR on Sunday, and Stone Island was my favorite!!! The directions the OP gave were perfect. I just printed the directions and took them with me.
The boat did the job. We were the first "tourists" on the boat. We got there along with all the vendors and took the boat over with them. Once we were there our main thing was to do ATV's. We heard good things about Victor's so we went there and the server called the guy with the ATV's, and they brought 4 of them to us. We did have some problems with the ATV's not being maintained, but they were good about fixing the problems and we got a replacement vehicle. He originally quoted us $35 each, but we said no and he dropped it down to $30.00. The beach you drive on is dirty so you have to watch where you are driving, but it was so fun!!!
I know this was 5 years ago ginam650 - but do you remember how long you were able to ride for $30?

Holey that is stunning. My mom always said if you make the outfit in the same colour and fabric as they show it on the envelope then you can't go wrong. So black.

Memories of sewing - when I read the post about Burda patterns, oh did that bring back memories that I had completely forgotten about but they were only about 25 years ago. We lived in London England and in the fashion district there was a store that sold only magazines for the fashion industry including Burda magazines. I bought baby Burda in French! Maternity Burda in German! And many regular Burda in French, English or German. I had no babies at the time and dint read French or German, but I used those to sew many adults clothes, maternity suits for work, and many baby, toddler and kids clothes from them as the years passed and we started a family back in Canada. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

The coffee card is $31 to purchase pre cruise.... anyone know what the current onboard price is? Trying to determine if it's worth buying in advance.
My experience is you need to have a card and show it to get free drip coffee and tazo tea but you don't need to use a punch for these. Our fave was coming back from a hot walk around port and getting an iced drip coffee for free, showing our coffee card, but not using a punch.
Of course, syrup reconstituted coffee is available in the dining venues for free without showing a coffee card.

Thanks for feedback re sharing wine.

Has anyone experience with, as a previous poster noted, how it would work to buy the bottle of wine with 40% off and share it with others at the table? Just wondering if I'd feel I was being sneaky? What about getting a liqueur and letting my DH have some sips.... If I buy the package for me, I'm thinking he'll want the odd swill of my drinks :-)

Or take the 95 minute bc ferry between Vancouver and Victoria and the crew announces when whales are spotted. I always expect the ferry to tilt with so many rushing to one side to catch the view !

Nope, it's included. The Sydney to Honolulu is the part that's excluded. A friend is doing the Vancouver to Honolulu route next september and had it added on Monday. It's a Hawaii cruise, not a Transpacific.
Thanks cruise junky. We got it after asking AGAIN. I think it was your clear statement that Sydney to honolulu was trans pacific and honolulu to Vancouver was Hawaii that helped seal the deal! We are ecstatic!

We are doing a transpacific honolulu to Vancouver and sadly this is excluded from 1, 2, 3 :-(

Some of my cruises I go with girlfriends rather than the family. Then I'm only paying for me rather than for 4 people. My DH likes motorbike trips with the guys and I like a cruise and some balcony time reading a book with a glass of wine and idle chatter with my GF. It works very well for some of our vacation time and budget.

We were 4 in a cabin when my DS got noro, then 24 hours later me then 24 hours later, DH.... We were in Mediterranean on RCCL and they gave us a free inside cabin for our 2 sons to be in while my DH and I finished with the every 30 minutes hogging the bathroom for several days. It was a godsend as my other son escaped getting sick. We were also very grateful for our balcony as we were quarantined and craved the fresh air as we got better. Here's the lesson that my son still hasn't learned... Don't bite your nails on a cruise ship!! Fingers in mouth introduces germs!

Cozumel bar hop is a blast and makes this quite an attractive home port.
