  1. Ship: Eclipse

    Cabin #: 7107

    Deck #: Sunrise

    Class: FV

Area: All the way forward, port

    Bed near: n/a

    Quiet?: Yes except when docking

Balcony view: Partially obstructed by ship's superstructure

    Balcony size: Normal

Wind a problem?: No, unless by rail. The obstruction creates a sheltered alcove

    Soot a problem?: No

Problems/comments: As has been mentioned before this has an odd balcony, partially obstructed. For our short cruise it wasn't a problem and gave some protection from the elements. The cabin itself is great. Nice large sitting area and two bedrooms. Being all the way forward you will hear the bow thrusters pulling into port in the morning along with some clanking from below as they set the lines up. For someone who likes the Oceanview Bar it's along way away, although the walk was good exercise.

  2. Hi All,

Below is a past post which I have copied from a search of this forum regarding the larger balconies on soltice class ships.

Am I right in thinking we have booked a triple sized balcony 6156 and a larger than normal balcony 6158?

Yes, you are correct. 6156 is about triple the size and 6158 about double.

  3. Celebritys website shows & states S2 balconies are smaller than S1s on the Sports Deck but CCers have kindly set me straight that that is incorrect..

Wld very much appreciate it if someone wld post a picture of the balcony of a Century Penthouse Deck S2 suite.

Thanks so very much in advance. :)

  4. A kettle is on the prohibited list and it may be confiscated. Better not to be caught with one.

if I can't take anything with a heating element I can't take my hair straighteners either....

And I ask why they put kettles in the cabins on cruises out of the UK if they consider they are such a hazard

I'm guessing the reason is that Celebrity know exactly what appliance they are putting in the cabin and have had that safety aspect approved for use in the European market. Obviously they don't know the integrity of such appliance brought onboard by a passenger.

  5. 1205 does have a larger balcony. There are some pictures of like cabin 1208 on pages 3 and 4 in the picture link in my signature.

Just to clarify 1242 is a Sunset Verandah not a Sky Suite. It's a strange cabin with an odd position for the balcony because if you are sitting out at the Sunset Bar you can look straight up at it. There's a picture of it on page 3 too. It is bigger than normal, but an odd shape.

  6. For those who wish to do things as they do at RCL:

Celebrity would then establish an Elite + lounge,

Remove the present drink menu for all elites,

Open up Michael's Club as a true E+ lounge and expand the drinking hours for only those in that category.

Serve a more limited drink menu (RCL cruisers can perhaps enlighten us) in a different lounge for elites...

and I'm sure the bar bill for X would be much lower than it is now on some ships. Serving 300 elites from 4 to 6pm, as on Constellation in Reflections, with the drink choices available, I believe is much costlier than the alternative....

and I think change to the present event is inevitable.

According to threads over on the RCL boards, change is imminent, with two new levels, calculated by days cruised, not number of cruises. And if there is to be any reciprocity between levels and cruise lines, change will come to Celebrity as well.

I think that sounds a very sensible move. If they go to days rather than credits and introduce Elite+ I would have to cruise some more and lose out in having a more limited drinks menu, but that's fine. On my last cruise (a TA with lots of Elites) I didn't even go to the afternoon social event. From experience it was too crowded. Having so many eligible is not a good thing.

  7. Roy, they are aft facing and there are 12 of them. 6 are corners and 6 non-corner. I'm not sure when they assign them, but you should be able to check on the "My Celebrity" page on the X website. If you've scored one congratulations. I'm in a corner FV on Connie in March.

  8. Ship – Eclipse

    Deck – 12

    Cabin # - 2129

    Class – S2

Starboard or Port Side - Port Side

Bed near?(balcony or bath) – Bath

Quiet Cabin (With comments on problems. Note if connecting. ) – A lot of noise at all times from Ocean Cafe above. The cabin is under an area where food and crockery carts are rolled and the noise is like thunder. This happened at all times including 2.30am until Guest Relations were able to prevent the really early morning stuff most of the time, but still from 5.30am I could hear it. A partial remedy was sleeping with the iPod in the ear.

    Balcony View - Great view.

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? – Normal size for an S2

    Was wind a problem? No.

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? n/a

Any specific problems with this cabin? Aside from the noise from above this is a lovely cabin with lots of storage space, which is a real dichotomy and a shame.

Any other comments? I would not book an S2 on the side of deck 12 again unless it was one of the more forward cabins (say in line with 2121 and forward) as observations show these are not under the cart "highway", but more under the carpeted area of the buffet seating. It is an issue Celebrity are aware of and solutions include more sound proofing and carts with pneumatic tyres.

  9. I know most of you "new cruisers", those who just started cruising in the past ten years won't agree with me, but a lot of what cruising was has declined. And since you have nothing to compare it to, it's probably difficult for you to understand what us old timers are saying. My opinion only, but with the birth of the behemoths, that's when cruising declined. I cannot understand how anyone wants to be on a ship, or should I say floating town, that carries more than 3500 passengers---that's more that live in my town. Cruisers have become somewhat spoiled/jaded and we've become a generation who cannot be happy with just being on a ship, not having to cook/clean/make beds and all that. Now, we have to have our senses inundated with every imaginable diversion. And, we've become a very different group and complain that we have to dress up for a few hours a couple of times a week. We want every cruise line to become an homogenized product of all casual, all the time. Why does every line have to be a carbon copy of every other line? Why can't one just stand out from all the others and provide a different experience of the old time cruising? I thought/hoped that Celebrity would be just that.

My first cruise was in 1977, and I'm just happy as a clam sitting on deck, watching the water, having good food and listening to music at night. But the guys who run cruise lines are in a giant "p'ing" contest playing the age old game of "mine is bigger than yours", all to the detriment of what cruising was meant to be. To be quite frank, I still don't understand the idea that you have to lug along an Xbox/Wii/Playstation to keep the kids happy. You're on a cruise, so why do kids still want to sit in front of a TV playing video games, stuff they do ad nauseum at home when there's so much to do on cruise ships?

Another thing that has changed cruises is the advent of the specialty restaurant. The food and service we enjoyed in the main dining room, at no extra charge, a decade ago is, now only available in the specialty restaurants. That's rather sad, when you think about it.

But I still love cruising and I don't think there's another kind of vacation that tops it. At least Celebrity hasn't caved into the demand for wave runners, bowling alleys and ice rinks and they haven't (yet) bowed to the casualites.

Darcie, I hear what you are saying, but posts on how much better it used to be seem to say "you've missed out" and I really don't feel like that at all. Quite the opposite in fact. When I look around at others (there was a guy from Miami on the BBC news today who had lost his job and the bank were about to repossess his home) I just feel very fortunate I can enjoy cruising at all and that is what is always uppermost in my mind.

  10. I've been cruising since just before you (2002) and have taken at least one cruise a year since then and one year did three, all on Celebrity. I don't analyse things in too greater detail. All I know is I love the food and service still and really enjoy being at sea. I really like meeting people on the ship and having the odd martini. In answer to your question I am not sure what "great days of cruising" are or were. I just know I loved it when I began in 2002 and still do. Can't get enough of it. I'd do three a year every year if I could.

  11. I got my DH to spring for the extra $$ by promising him a bigger balcony, now I'll be in trouble if it isn't there.

It definitely has a larger balcony (about twice the size). If it doesn't I'll buy you a drink when I see you on the cruise. You may or may not think that's a great deal;)

  12. A photo of a bird visiting us on our last cruise on Adventure OTS. The bird stood there for at least 30 minutes. I also posted this on the RCCL thread.

Gerry, that's a great shot. Do you know what kind of bird it was?

(note to self - don't be impressed with a sparrow on the balcony any longer:))

  13. On Tenerife, the Canary Island after Lanzarote on the Equinox TA...here is Mt. Teide and we are higher than the clouds....

Cheryl and Garry, loved those photos of Tenerife. I really enjoyed our trip through the forest up to Teide. I caught a couple. The first is when the mist suddenly came down when we had our first view of the mountain and the second reminded me of a very happy trip to Tenerife many years ago (the old photo at the bottom that I took shows it hasn't changed much in 30 years!).

  14. Deck - Continental

    Cabin # - 6315

    Class – SV

Starboard or Port Side - Aft, middle

Bed near?(balcony or bath) – bath

Quiet Cabin (With comments on problems. Note if connecting. ) – Yes

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – Great view of wake. Blue roof overhang of Tuscan Grill on deck below was not an issue and in my view an advantage (see other comments below).

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - 2nd widest of the aft cabins and from other cabins I saw on the side it was slightly wider than those. Standard depth.

    Was wind a problem? No

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? At times, but dependent upon wind direction as to where the smoke from the stack was blowing. Straight back - more soot. Out to the side a little - less or no soot.

Any specific problems with this cabin? No apart from soot mentioned above and the lack of cover over the balcony which was an issue if it rained.

Any other comments? I liked the lowest deck because it was more private. Noone looking up at you from the balcony below.

  15. NOT SURE IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED IN NON-BALCONY CABINS - BUT HERE GOES ANYWAY!!

    Deck - 9

    Cabin # - 9336

    Class – ?

Starboard or Port Side - STARBOARD MIDSHIPS

    Bed near?(balcony or bath) – N/!

Quiet Cabin (With comments on problems. Note if connecting. ) – NO UNDUE NOISE WAS HEARD

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – INSIDE CABIN SO N/A

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - N/A

    Was wind a problem? N/A

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? N/A

Any specific problems with this cabin? NONE

Any other comments? We usually book inside cabins as we travel so much and find it a huge saving - we like being 'up top' anyway. We were very impressed with the cabins in this class and in this price range. They were spacious compared to most other cruise lines and very well laid out. Particularly liked the space in the bathroom - lots of cupboard and draw space. Would thoroughly recommend these cabins if not looking for a balcony. Hope this helps!

Your user name caught my eye. If you look at mine I'm not too far away from you (well for part of the year anyway);) I hope you enjoyed your cruise.
