  1. I'm sorry about your dilemma.

In October 2016, I was scheduled for a B2B with the 2nd half being a transatlantic. Unfortunately I had to attend a funeral and missed 2 ports. 1st I called Celebrity, 2nd insurance, 3rd choice air. It was relatively simple. Celebrity contacted the ship with my arrival in Athens. Choice air rearranged my airfare from LAX instead of IAH. There was a fee of about $500 if I remember correctly charged by Choice air.

  2. I am turning 60 in 2017 & my bucket list cruise is the Greek Islands. So far, no one wants to go, chickens! I am willing to pay the single supplement but which line would anyone recommend. After all, it is my retirement money & you can't take it with you. I am willing to pay within reason, not a fool. Thank you for any assistance.

I will also turn 60 in 2017. I will be leaving for the Greek Islands in 2 weeks. I'll be on the celebrity reflection solo.

  3. We used Gold Street Travel for our Santorini tour. Went to Akrotiri Ruins, Pyrgos, Oia, Ferostefani (not sure if I pronounce it right) . You can say if you want to stay somewhere longer or not. We did also Oia last, the cruise excursions left Oia then, and it was more quiet. We heard from people who where there in the morning, it was very busy. It was also less expensive then a cruise excursion.

If you don't mind sharing, how many people in your group and what was the cost. Thanks

  4. A while back, I remember reading posts about a TV series "Mighty Cruise Ships." Unfortunately, it was only aired in the UK and Australia.

Surprise! I found it on the Smithsonian channel on cable. If you google the series,it will give you the schedule.

We watched the Azamara Journey (Vietnam, Thailand etc) this morning. It is being repeated on Aug 18 and 19.

The Solstice (Australia) is being shown on Aug 23. We also dvr'd the Oasis of the Seas (RCCL) and Le Soleal (Ponant.)

There were many behind the scene stories that were fascinating. If you love cruising, I think this series will give you quite a few hours of enjoyment.

    Thank you. Recording tonight.

  5. Just wondering if any of you solos have gone to St. Marteens Orient Beach by the Club O resort? If so did you feel safe doing that on your own?

I have wanted to swim in the ocean and sunbathe nude for the longest time. Its sort of my bucket list experience. I just don't know how safe it is to do so on my own.

I have a cruise coming up that will stop in St. Marteen and I will have that opportunity.

I've been there twice. Both times with a coworker who was in another cable. We felt safe. She wanted to get a full body tan and since I don't need one I just swam and enjoyed the water. I prefer the nude side because the vendors don't cross the imaginary line.

Be aware there is nothing dividing the clothing optional side but a small sign saying something about no pictures. Have fun.

  6. Can someone report on the age range of the solos on NCL? 30s? 50s? 70s?

I have only cruised NCL on the Pride of America in Hawaii. The age range was probably from 2 to 90. This was in September 2014.

  7. 58 here. I enjoy cruising and decided I was not staying home just because I didn't have anyone to cruise with me. One of the best decisions I've made. I usually don't cruise during spring break and summers.

Go for it and enjoy. Best people watching is at the martini bar:D

  8. I'm glad to know I won't be the only solo cruiser. I decided to do the assigned seating at the early diner. I asked for a large table in the hopes of meeting other people. I requested to be put at a table with other solo cruisers, but I'm not sure if Celebrity does that.

I think it's a crap shoot. The last time I requested a large table on Celebrity I was seated at a table I believe of 10. There were 3 couples, a mother in law, myself, a co-worker who was traveling with me but in another cabin & someone who never showed up. It was a combination of Canada, British & US. We got along very well.

I think Carnival does the best job of seating solo cruisers together.

I have chosen select dining. There is, maybe, another lady traveling with me but in a different cabin. She never goes to the dining room but I do. I like the specialty restaurants so if you want to go to one or all I'd be happy to join you. I'm in cabin 9243.

  9. I'm taking my first solo cruise on Celebrity on the 10/21/16 Reflection transatlantic cruise leaving from Rome. Are there any other solos on the cruise?

I'll be joining you. I'm doing a B2B with the October 10th cruise.

  10. I am single and will be taking solo cruises on Sept. 1, 2016 Canada/New England and Jan. 14, 2017, Southeastern Coast and Bahamas on the Grandeur of the Seas out of Baltimore, MD.

Would there be any single/solo travelers on either of these cruises? If so, please let me know.

    Thank you.

    Reeve

If you go to the solo cruiser board, there is a solo cruiser roll call. You can post your question there.

  11. Just as a counterpoint (OP here), I've been solo in Aqua class on Celebrity, and while the extra space was nice, I found I wasn't that interested in being out on my balcony alone, and the little plasticy sofa was uncomfortable. (When I sailed with my significant other, we liked reading together on the balcony.)

So after the Celebrity experience, I'm looking forward to getting back to the Studio area on NCL. I liked the way it was locked off, and the lounge gave it a mini "ship within a ship" feeling. I liked only having to go a few feet to get caffeine, water and snacks, and as an introvert it was a nice retreat after a day of crowds. I spend a lot of time in the spa or other places with ocean views, so when I'm by myself an inside is fine (or at least, an inside with a private lounge).

Just another point of view; I have also cruised solo on Celebrity in Aqua Class. It was on a TA east bound and I totally enjoyed Blu and my balcony. I have yet to try solo cabins but will probably do so next year on NCL. An inside is my least favorite but at least I'm on the ship.

I have a B2B with the 2nd leg being TA in October with both legs being a balcony. I'm traveling with another lady and I actually considered sharing a cabin on the 1st leg, her suggestion. After much consideration I declined. Having my own cabin enhances my vacation experience.

I wonder how many solo cruisers would share a cabin with a friend?

  12. Just back from our 7 day Cba Cruise, rt Montego Bay, person to person.

Quick thoughts: Ship is nice & easy to get around, though some complained of having tiny inside cabins, very tight for 2. Food was just ok, meats were very tough. The buffet drink set up is crazy, you will see what I mean. Dining rooms, most of the tabels seat 10 & just felt very crowded. Drinks are watered down, staff was nice, some are cuban. DO NOT but rum or cigars at the stop in Santiago de Cuba, huge ripoff, wait till Havana. Our 2nd day in Havana, we blew off the afternoon people to people bus tour to go out on our own, no problems at all. Bargin with taxi drivers. But most important, enjoy Cuba, it is a step back in time.

Thanks for the update. Did you buy extra travel insurance or just the insurance offered by the cruise line?

  13. The people to people documents are sent via email. You should be able to get them within a day or so. We're booked on the January 15 departure so we don't have any experience with this cruise. Good luck, it sure sounds like a wonderful experience!

    Thank you so much.

  14. Brochure says Equinox sails August 1st, 2015 from Barcelona to Barcelona , 13 nights ending August 14th. However when looking at booking the disembarkation is Rome August 14th. Next we have it doing a Istanbul to August 24th, 14 nights, to Barcelona.

Is it Barcelona or Rome ending for the August 1st sail and where is Equinox from August 14th (Rome or Barcelona) to August 24th when she departs Istanbul. ?

  15. I am in Sanibel Island in a condo with a bunch of friends. Everyone gets a chance to make a choice on the restaurant. Everyone gets a choice and activities. Makes me even more interested in going off doing my own thing on my first solo cruise. Lady Allure is calling me. Six more weeks! A whole week of no pressure to do anything.

Enjoy your "me time" and the cruise.

  16. We are looking to plan a Hawaii cruise .. Was wondering if anyone had any information that might help us .. We would prefer fly to Hawaii and cruise the islands I believe Pride of America is the ships name .. We also would like to go when there are the least amount of kids on board since we are wanting a peaceful cruise.. We would be interested in any pointers any one would have to share with us.. This will be our 3rd cruise .. Last year we did the Alaskan cruise and it was awesome ..

I was on POA for the September 27, 2014 cruise. Not my first time to Hawaii but my first time cruising Hawaii. I saw very few children on the cruise. If you have any specific questions I'll be happy to answer if I can.
