Have you seen a Sommelier in your dining room?  We are on the Majestic and the Sommelier in our dining room has been bringing us glasses of wines that have been available in Vines (Silverado Cab, Paraduxx Blend, Grigich Hills Merlot).

I have not seen any sommelier on this ship & I did mention to our waiter that we’re going to Vines every night because the wines by the glass are terrible. I am not a wine snob & like a variety of wines. Also, wine service in the MDR is like going to a cheap restaurant. We are just off Celebrity on 3/24 and even if you order a cheap glass of wine, the sommelier takes your order & pours from the bottle at your table. At least you are sure of what your getting!

  2. Currently on the Grand Princess with the plus pkg & very disappointed with wines in the mdr. Yesterday I saw a waiter carrying a tray with 14 glasses of wine to 2 tables. Reds & white of different hues, but no tag or receipt as to what each was. All I could think of was, no way that waiter knows which of those areCabernet Sauvignon , Pinot or Malbec etc☹️ We’ve been going to Vines each night before dinner to pick up a glass!

Connecticut is home to two of the largest casino resorts in the world, Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods.  Both converted to be completely non-smoking on the casino floors with designated outdoor and fully enclosed smoking areas available for guests who wish to smoke. Neither resort is suffering because of it.

Yes, we travel to Mohegan because of that reason. We also visit our grandchildren since they live in Connecticut 🤣

  4. Currently on the Grand Princess & we had problems with MDR from day one. We haven’t been on Princess since Fall 2019, so definitely out of the loop on dining! On previous cruises we just went down to the anytime dining & got a beeper. Never waited more than 30 minutes. On the Grand we boarded in Auckland, cruise originated in Sydney. First day I contacted guest services & asked about dining & she said you better start making reservations! It’s a 22 day cruise so I tried online but could only make reservations for 6 nights, various times & dining rooms. The first night no reservation, was told 2 hour wait at first dining room. Went to different room waited 10 minutes & saw many unoccupied tables. Next day went to guest services & complained about the system. Was told they would keep a table empty all night if it had been reserved at 6:00 & 7:30 that’s the way the computer system operates! Excuse was guest could be tired from excursion & might or might not show up so they keep table open. I don’t know much about the  restaurant business but on dry land I think a restaurant would go out of business if that was their model! After our visit to guest services we got a table for 2 not later tha 7pm.

For reference was on the Celebrity Edge in March out of Sydney. We ate a one of the MDRs ( there are 4) every night & never waited for a table for 2. It was the first time in any cruise ( Celebrity & Princess) that we did not wait even once. We usually eat around 6-6:30 so prime time!

I have e mailed resort and awaiting their response.

Can anyone review a recent visit ?

So we leave this Saturday on the Grand Princess & yesterday I got an email from the Hilton saying that they are canceling all of the day pass reservations for April since the resort is fully booked. Good luck with your trip!

If you don't find anything at Victoria Market you should be able find something in either David Jones, Myer or Strandbags in Bourke St Mall in Melbourne.

In Auckland I suggest going to the 277 Mall in Newmarket. You can get the train to Newmarket from Britomart station - it's the next stop I think. 277 is a fairly big mall so you should find something there. Otherwise there are probably shops in Queen St that will have tote bags.

Melbourne is the shopping capital of Australia.

If you like malls, Chadstone (Westfield) is the largest in Australia. They have a free tourist shuttle bus which goes from Federation Square. https://www.chadstone.com.au/tourist-shuttle

If you prefer outlet shopping, there is Spencer Outlet above the Spencer St Station or  DFO South Wharf which is larger.

For souvenirs, the best place to shop is the Queen Victoria Market. It is not open on Monday or Wednesday and closes around 2 to 4 pm on the other days, so get there early. The best day is Sunday when there is the most number of stallholders with a huge variety of goods on sale.

Thanks for the info. We are planning to go to the Victoria Market on Easter Sunday, so hopefully I'll find something there. I already checked that they will be open that day but closed on Friday. We have theater tickets for the afternoon so we'll go there first thing that morning.

    Thanks again, Denise

  8. We will be spending several days in Auckland prior to a South Pacific cruise. Prior to arriving in Auckland we will spend about 2 weeks in Australia & take a Celebrity NZ cruise. I'm figuring we'll have lots of souvenirs, so I'll be looking for a good size tote bag for my goodies to bring home. Can anyone recommend a  store in Auckland to purchase a good size tote bag. We are staying at the JW Marriott which is in the CBD, I think.

    Thanks, Denise

  9. We also have a nice selection of local Aussie and NZ wines available that never showed up on any menu but were included in PDP cap of $20 per glass. We just asked our sommelier in Luminae for the local wines at meals.

This info is making me very happy! We'll be on the Edge starting 3/13 in a SV so regular dining, will ask if any local wines are available with Premium.

Which is what makes having 4 MDR's so much more appealing than one very large dining room.

Thanks, super excited for our first E class! Love all the tips shared here!

The only one we did via Celebrity was Florence from Livorno (which you’re not stopping at).
At Villefranche you can visit the town itself (small but lovely for a stroll around); take the HOHO bus to Nice: local bus or train to Nice or Monaco.

Ajaccio has a couple of tourist buses which do a tour of the island and you can just turn up and pay on the day.

    Haven’t been to Cagliari.

Valletta is a lovely city and you can walk around yourself.

Visited Messina previously and did a Godfather tour via a local provider.

In Naples you can take the train to Pompei or Herculaneum and get a guided tour at the sites, or take a ferry to Capri or Sorrento, or take the HOHO bus from the cruise terminal, or the metro to the main sites (I love Naples 😍).

    Loved that Godfather tour!
