Just grew up hearing that you did not eat oysters in the summer, months without an R (May, June, July, & August) because that was when they had a higher bacteria count and also when they breed. It is most likely and 'old wives tail' but that what I grew up with.
I grew up in NJ and remember hearing the same thing.

Thank you so much for sharing your trip with us!
Hope you're feeling better.
Can't wait for August!

We normally don't do many excursions anymore (having done most of them already over the years), but as this is my 20th employment anniversary trip courtesy of my company, they are paying not only for our cruise fare but all activities/excursions that we want. So we booked away!!!
Congratulations on 20 years! And what a great company to send you on a cruise!

I agree with cruisemom’s assessment of lines.
We like the smaller ships. They don’t appeal so much to families because of cost and the lack of activities that cater to younger passengers.
Every time I see something about a new mega ship rolling out I say "yay....more room on the smaller ships for us!"

Is the Chihuly exhibit still at the base of the Space Needle…we really enjoyed exploring there a few years back. Incredible talent.

This is on our list as well. We recently went to the one in St. Pete, FL and it was amazing!

Looking forward to "traveling with you" as we'll be on the Solstice for my 3 years overdue retirement cruise at the end of August.

We are sailing from Seattle on 19th May and after seeing your photos our excitement is growing.
Lucky you! We have to wait until August 25th but the anticipation is part of the fun.

I'm having a great time on your trip! Thanks for taking the time to share with us. Snorkeling in Alaska....who knew? 🥶

Thank you for the live review. We're heading out on the Solstice in a month, also Aqua class, and are really looking forward to hearing about your experience. I hope you have a great cruise!
Are you doing the Hot Glass experience? (I pre-purchased)
Please let us know about your hot glass experience as we'll be doing it in August.
Thanks!

Happily following along as we'll be on the Solstice in August. Our last trip on this ship was May 2010 so it's long overdue.
Hope your cruise is fabulous!

Thanks so much for your thorough review and taking vacation time to answer questions. Much appreciated. Happy to hear that you enjoyed your trip so much.
Our last trip on the Solstice was summer 2010 to celebrate our daughters college graduation in the eastern Caribbean. We are looking forward to going on Solstice again this summer to Alaska but had a little concern given the ships age but you have helped lay those fears to rest. Thanks!

I had my old standby sidecar to drink. Both were just the right amount and made very well.
Another sidecar lover here! This was my in laws go to drink when I met my husband 44 years ago. We're always delighted to see it on a drinks menu.
Hope you're having a wonderful time. Our family will be on the Solstice in August to celebrate my retirement (3 years after I retired but better late than never!)

Happily following your thread as we'll be back on the Solstice in August for Alaska. Our previous trip on Solstice was in 2010 so it's been hot minute! LOL

Thanks Glaciers, that's another good option. I've seen a few posts where people said that they lost their luggage using the port valet service so I've been a leary. Also, some say you are charged even though it says its a free service.
Maybe the charge was the airline baggage check fee needing to be paid?

I have to admit the 4 ounce Filet from the Kid's menu I had last night was just the perfect size for me and loved it.
This will definitely be my go to when nothing else really appeals to me. Glad to know this is an option.
Thanks for all the pictures you're posting. I'm having a wonderful time on your trip!

We haven't really explored much of the ship so far but have to say she is in good condition. While she is getting older she is aging gracefully.
So glad to hear this as we're finally going to go on our Alaska cruise on Solstice that was cancelled back when I retired in 2020!
We had done a Caribbean cruise on Solstice in 2010 to celebrate our daughters college graduation so I'd say we're overdue to be back on the ship!
Looking forward to the rest of your trip. From the # of posts I should probably check in a few times a day! 😉

Did not see anyone in September over Labor Day week.
Thanks, how was your cruise? We were originally supposed to go in August 2020 so really looking forward to this. We had gone on the Solstice in May 2010 so it's been awhile 😂

Thanks! We're going next August and this sounds fun!

Happy to see so many other walkers out there! Walking is our plan for Ketchikan in August. Thanks all for the tips.
