  1. For what it’s worth (not much as it’s 8 weeks ago).  Per speaking with crew, Allure was averaging about 300 no shows per week when capacity was about 4000.

Some people had travel mishaps due to airlines, some tested positive and could not make it.

So so even back then it was less than 10%, and likely closer to 5%.

  2. Son and DIL are presently booked for a cruise in October celebrating their 10th anniversary.  Found out today they will not make that sailing as she will deliver a new grand baby in December.

So it’s a medical reason they will be required to cancel.. Can they get their non refundable deposit applied toward a 2023 sailing?  Or is that deposit toast?

Just asking here, figure we will get the right answer from the board prior to calling RCL.

  3. Back to OP question,  we did the double decker bus tour just a couple of weeks ago.  We were returned to the pier about 12:15.

Be on time, as we actually lined up just outside the ship, and since everyone was checked in we started the walk to the bus about 10 minutes earlier than scheduled.  Gave time for some people to hit restrooms before leaving.

Specialty coffee is available at Cafe Promenade, Park Cafe,  Main Dining Room, and Specialty Restaurants.  Not sure about any others.

Was on Allure a couple weeks ago, purchased the coffee card and used it in Cafe Prom and Park Cafe daily.

Small size, if you want larger size they will deduct 2 drinks

  5. Saw a ship in either St Martin or St Kitts a couple of weeks ago and thought it looked familiar.

It was the Splendor of the Seas, going to a Costume party as the Marella Discovery.

Nice to to still be around I guess, beats the alternative.

I think Marella also is sailing the old Legend of the Seas.

I think too there are a lot of new to cruise on the short FL cruises.  People want to try a cruise to see if they'll like it so a short cruise is perfect for that.  That's why (in part) Royal put amped ships, then Freedom class and now Allure into the short cruise market.

Do you want a new to cruise guest experiencing an old run down ship or a newer or bigger ship that is more likely to create a positive first cruise experience and a return guest booking a longer cruise?

That is exactly what we did for our first cruise, in 1990.

We weren't sure if we would get seasick, if we would like the food and I had this expectation that I would be bored during the day.

So we did not want to commit to a full week long cruise.

That year was when Nordic Empress was brand spanking new, we flew in Monday morning, flew home Friday afternoon, 4 nights on board.

  7. Just a FYI,

Current Mama Mia cast on Allure signed ONE YEAR contracts thru the end of May.  The next cast has had auditions, will rehearse in Miami for several weeks prior to joining Allure 3 weeks prior to current casts departure.

Don’t miss the Central Park concert by the cast, they are talented people.

  8. On Allure 2 weeks ago, lots of shows.   Mama Mia, Aqua, 2 comedians who did separate shows and a combined show, juggler, Jazz Lounge, dancing lounge, etc.......

The cast of Mama Mia also did a show in the Central Park of Allure, where they performed non-Mama Mia songs, up close and personal it was just fabulous.

in other words, entertainment was all over the ship every night.

  9. Speaking with staff on Allure a few weeks ago, they said each week they are provided numbers for next sailing, and when the next sailing hits the actual number was running about 300 lesser.

Those 300 are mostly people Positive on Covid test, but would also include no shows and missed ship due to travel.

I would imagine as the Covid numbers go down, the fleetwide ‘cancel due to positive test’ numbers continue to go down, and when it gets very low, they may not see the need to continue the CWC program.

On the other hand,  new variant may temporarily increase Covid ‘positives’ requiring the policy to stick around a little longer.

Don't know if it actually is working yet, but their FAQ says yes:

    https://www.royalcaribbean.com/faq/questions/does-royal-caribbean-offer-luggage-valet

So far don't see it from Miami, though - that's what I was looking for.

Dont believe all you see on the website.  Leaving Allure two weeks ago flying via Delta thru Ft Lauderdale, after 12 noon.

I showed guest services that portion of their website and they said, “No, we aren’t doing luggage valet at this time”

They did not know when it would return.

You better tell RCI they are awarding points incorrectly. I have gotten 4 points per night twice in the last six months when staying in a JS alone.

5 out of 4 people have trouble with fractions,

There is a fine line between a denominator and a numerator.

    6 / 2 (2 + 1) = ...............9

    not 1.

If if someone does math like this on a cruise board, are they placed on Diamond Lounge double secret points probation?  (Asking for a friend).

  12. Our first cruise as Diamond is fast approaching.  We have been utilizing the Emerald Lounge, but understand the Diamond Lounge is even nicer.

Do we need a refreshment package if newly Diamond?

We won't go over 8 alcoholic drinks a day, but we like the specialty coffees in the AM, Fresh OJ, drink lots of water, DW likes the fountain drinks.

Are those things provided in the Diamond Lounge?

  13. I personally believe that the quality of the entertainment ties directly to the size of the ship.

I am not educated in the performing arts, but just personal experience shows me the smaller the vessel the more likely entertainment is forgettable.  I still like to attend shows and will in the future, but when I come home and talk to friends about my cruise I don’t mention the entertainment if it is forgettable.

Interesting the higher quality staff are graduated to larger ships, I did not know that.  Is it the same with so called headline entertainment?

Somehow I don't think Royal will be using that comparison in their new ad campaign.

    "Hey, were safer than Walmart"

    or

" Hey, were safer than Walmart and our food is slightly better"

"If you love fighting for stuff on Black Friday at Walmart , you'll love our buffet!"

"You can stroll our ships in your PJ's just like at Walmart"

    😁

Had a guy in his RCL robe one morning hop in the elevator, having just left Windjammer with a bowl of cereal.  Yes, he proceeded to start slurping and chomping on it IN THE ELEVATOR.
