  1. We are currently on Wonder in an inside, non connecting cabin on deck 12.  This is the noisiest cabin I have ever experienced. People on both sides of us are very noisy, and begin talking, slamming doors early in the morning.  Hallways are noisy, people shouting, slamming doors, etc.  The ultimate noise though is coming from the kids club which is right above us.  It sounds like a herd of elephants running a marathon that starts about 9am and continues off and on throughout the day until 930 pm.  We are spending very little time in our cabin.😂

She doesn’t have that either. That’s the other thing that she had to send off to prove her gender.

You don’t have to have  the birth certificate in hand to use it to check her in.  Our  17 year old grandson was joining us for a family cruise last July. He was flying down 2 days before the cruise so I checked him hin using birth certificate as I knew the info that it asked for.  When he arrived, I was able to change his checkin info to his passport.  It was all very easy.

Just off of Grandeur, and ordered in suite from the MDR every evening. Hopefully the dinners in the MDR were as good as what we had delivered to our cabin. The food was excellent (and room service had potato chips)😇

We, too, just got off of Grandeur and I was amazed by how much better the food was than on our previous cruisers this year (Jewel, Independence, and Mariner) .  I would rate the food on Grandeur a 8.5- 9.

  5. We just got off of Mariner this morning and I would rate the food in the MDR a 6.  This was our 3rd cruise with the new menu and it seems as though the food has gotten worse with each cruise. A few dishes were very good, chicken chettinad and butter chicken to name two but most were just ok to bad.

We had a very nice meal in Jamie’s and the hot dogs at the Doghouse were great!😂

  6. Good morning! Currently on Mariner of the Seas, my husband decided after weeks of visitors we needed a vacation! We have had a very nice, relaxing cruise.

Lois, hope you have a wonderful and safe trip! I am sure you will enjoy it!

Melody, I hope your recovery continues to go smoothly!  It sounds like you are doing well.

Melissa, glad to read you are enjoying your trip! And surviving the heat!

Cynthia, lovely pictures!  We have a cruise planned for next August that includes two ports in Greenland and I am really excited to visit there!

Kat, I hope your appetite is improving.  This is a common side effect from these meds and can become serious over time, I know you will stay on top of it.  And that is great regarding the donation to Maui!

We disembark tomorrow but will be home by 9am. Laundry and grocery shopping for me tomorrow.

OOTD:  swimsuit with coverup and pink croc flip flops😂

We last cruised in February after a 5+ year break.  Impressions: service was lovely, portions smaller; food a bit blander.  DH is not too fussy, and always found something to eatt/enjoy.  I had several of the Indian cuisine options and thought they were great.  If you are a true foodie/gourmand, you likely wouldn't be thrilled.

    Teddie

I do not consider myself a foodie /gourmand and I was not thrilled with the food.  Indian dishes were usually good but I don’t want Indian every night.  Most everything else was kind of bland. I never use the salt or pepper on the table but our last cruise in July made me consider it.

On our first cruise in 1999 I would have rated menu and food a 10.  Last cruise on Independence I would have given both a 6.5, maybe a 7.

  8. We have done 16 cruises since the restart, most out of Canaveral but also Boston, FLL, and Tampa.  The only time I have seen checkin times being followed was in Tampa.

Our cruise on Jewel out of Canaveral in March did not follow scheduled times at checkin but did follow them for boarding which was the first time I’ve encountered that.  Just a few months earlier same ship and same terminal did boarding by C&A level.  Had not seen that since pre pandemic.😂

I wonder this all the time also. Even if they are well behaved, Even if they don't disturb anyone else, Even if they have a great time in the moment. I don't think a kid will remember until maybe the age of 5, maybe 4. I really don't think there's a point for the kid's sake, and there's really no relief for the parents. Yes, there's the kid's club thing, but it's got ending hours, and if you are bringing them and sending them there all day or evening, again, I also don't see the point. It's not for the kids. We never took our daughter on vacation until she was 4 or 5. Even so, she barely remembers her first trip or two. Possibly tiny fractions of things, but not a true "memory". We purposefully waited until she was 5 to take her to Disney.

Agreed, not everyone has grandparents or a nanny. Growing up, my parents hired a live-in babysitter when they went on vacation. But I've also heard of kids staying with a trusted family friends or a friend's family.

@sjb317, Yes, an 18 month old can enjoy it at the time, but they'll never remember it when they are older.

It wasn’t about whether he would remember it, it was a family cruise with parents, uncles, a cousin and grandparents so it was about making memories for all of us.  And we have great memories of all the fun things we did with our family on that cruise as do they!  I would do it again in a heartbeat!

  10. We took our grandson on Freedom when he was 16 months old and he seemed to love being on the ship.  The area for kids in diapers is a small section but he enjoyed it.  His 5 year old cousin came over to play with him but was not allowed in this section with him, only diapered children in this section.

Definitely take a few small pool toys for him!

We have done both cruise lines, but like others have said we can’t help unless we know what ships you are comparing.  I agree with @firefly333 Oasis has the best shows and Celebrity has few kids. Celebrity has a more adult quiet vibe.

I would have agreed with you until we went  on Celebrity Apex.  With the exception of the Aqua shows on Oasis class which are always outstanding, Apex entertainment was truly amazing!

Sherri, hope you start feeling better. We made the terrible mistake of getting the second shingles shot & flu shot at same time. We were both so miserable!

Thanks, Melody and Lois! Woke up feeling much better today!  So much better that I am getting ready to go out for a walk.  I don’t think I’ve ever felt this bad after getting a vaccine, very happy there is not a third one!

I remember listening to Tony Bennett with my parents.  Loved his voice.  He was versatile.  He could do big band, small combo, just piano.  I also heard the song with Lady Gaga.  I do remember when he announced he would no longer perform due to his Alzheimers.  May his memory and music be a blessing to all 😿

My hamster wheel came to a weird idea last night - those cheap end-of-summer cruises.  I have to start work (if I do work this year) on Nov, 25 so that takes out that late HAL T/A,  But there are a couple of Canada/NE cruises that are reasonably priced IF I suck it up and do an inside (☹️).  OR, in another twist, I could do the Pacific Coastal on Eurodam in the same balcony I had for Alaska.    All this was on HAL.  What can I say - I'm hankering for a Fall trip somewhere!

I hope a fall trip works out for you, Kat! As cruise up to NE/Canada would be lovely!

Rough day today: Got my second shingles dose yesterday and was impressed that it did not hurt as much as the first one.  All was good until I woke up at 230 with a fever and generalized  achyness . I had to take some ibuprofen to be able to sleep.  No energy today, just a general blah feeling and still low grade fever.  So glad that was my last one!

OOTD: soft, stretchy Jammie bottoms with an old tshirt from a race I used to do.  Hair in a ponytail and no makeup! 😂

Sherri, get a giant Sequence game. Intersperse with the Uno!!

Sequence is one of my favorite games!  Eli likes it too, but seems to get bored after a couple of games and a bored Eli is never good!😂

You should see our family from Australia playing Sequence, or really, any game for that matter.  They are ruthless!

    Hello Lois and Sherri,

I will be sailing on NCL Pearl leaving on August 11.  I have been on one NCL cruise years ago and wasn't too impressed. I hope they have improved. I am going NCL mainly for the convenience as I don't have to fly.  I sail Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. I wanted to get in another cruise before the winter cruises begin.

We have always talked about giving NCL a try, I will be interested in reading your opinion of them.  We will be on RC’s Mariner and leave on 8/18.

Last week, I booked a Bermuda cruise. It's been a while since I've been there and I was looking for a cruise in July or August. The cruise is round trip Boston so this is easy for me.

We are cruising to Bermuda in August but gong out of Port Canaveral which is a very easy port for us, only about 25 min away!  When will you be there?

Hi Sherri, yes I sail next month. Flying out on the 25th and arriving at Heathrow the morning of the 26th, sailing Aug 27th from Southampton to Copenhagen 12 nights.

And you are correct. This was a different Radiologist than the last one.

It has been really hot up here too. And it is not August yet. I am in lightweight cotton shorts and a tank top.

Copenhagen is one of my favorite cities!  Very walkable as long as you watch out for the bicycles!

  19. Welcome, neeuqdrazil!  Interesting screen name for sure!  I have always found this thread to be populated by interesting, non snarky people and enjoy reading everyone’s posts.

It is crazy hot down here and  we are having our late afternoon thunderstorms that occur each day.   Some beautiful lightening out over the Atlantic!  Too hot and stormy to get out for my daily walks and not being active always makes me a little grumpy! Tomorrow is my second shingles vax, not looking forward to it.

Lois, may just be a different radiologist with a different opinion on frequency who read your mammogram.  You have a cruise coming up soon, right?

Our oldest son is driving back down with the Wildman for a week next week!  Looking forward to beach soccer, pool volleyball and many, many games of Uno!

OOOTD: Denim capris and a gap tshirt!  And makeup for a Target run!😂

    Hope everyone keeps cool!
