  1. Thank you @kathynorthfor all this wonderful info. We plan to fly to Iguazu from BA post-cruise and stay 2 nights at Melia. However, we plan to fly back to the States beginning with a flight from the Iguazu airport on the Brazilian side.  I’ll need to search for info on getting from the Melia in Argentina to the Iguazú airport on the Brazil side. Perhaps a CC reader has experience they could share??

Thanks.  What time were the shows in the theater?

I was on the last Equinox sailing. There’s only one show at 9:30p the first night, then the shows are at 7p and 9p all other nights. Lots of music in all the venues/bars, too!

That's not from CDC, it's from USA Today. I couldn't find a link reference to CDC with that info. Maybe I missed it, but all I found for CDC was a link to a November 1 article titled "Cruise Ship Travel During Covid-19" . . . again, dated November 1, but which the USA Today article linked as "The CDC _said on its website Thursday_" . . . . but it doesn't specify exactly which Thursday, so . . .

I believe this is the link for the most current cdc info. It does have today’s date (Dec 30, 2021).

We first noticed reservations open in journeyview July 4.  But pickings were very slim. New events posted everyday and sometimes multiple times a day. Maybe once things are more stable the entire thing will get posted at once. I just noticed a new event on Skagway day. They are bringing on a musher and the dog(s).

Doesn’t OM mean ocean medallion? Idk who there would be to invite from there.

Thank you so much for doing this for all of us that will be sailing at a later date. Do you have any idea what time the musher and dogs will be on board? I’m likely to schedule the rest of my day around the chance to see them. 😊

  5. “On my last cruise on the Silhouette earlier this month, theattendant left two towels with a note indicatingthat these towels were to be used ashore and Iwould be charged $28 if I did not return the towels.”

I can only speak from my own experience, but there was no note left with the beach towels placed in our room the night before port days.

LaRoLarRo, don’t hesitate to ask your room attendant or guest services any questions you have- whether it’s about towels or any other concerns. All of the Equinox staff will take great care of you, and ensure that all your questions are answered. You are going to have a wonderful cruise!

  6. There is also a Grom (did you mean that instead of Grum?) in Rome. The mothership is in Florence. But, for Florence, I'll stick to my gelateria on the Oltroarno side from the Westin & St. Regis...;)

We had Grom gelato today in Venice. We went there due to the recommendation we got on this site. The pistachio gelato was outstanding ( and not bright green in color- more of a natural greenish-tan color).

  7. My husband is actually Italian born but he finds the pasta in Italy too al dente for his taste. So he asks for it more cooked. Sometimes they say that that is ok as that is how some of the old people like it! Sometimes they comment that they know it is served the more old fashioned way in the English speaking countries. Sometimes they ignore his request and out comes the spaghetti holding its shape. I quite enjoy this circus!

Can't say we were impressed with the food in Venice but we are only moderate fans of seafood. I am not a sweet tooth so I find pretty well all Italian cakes, desserts and even gelato too sweet but I really love the antipasta plates of cheese and salami etc.

Love arancini but I am not sure if you can get them out of Sicily (even though they are common in London, New York and Sydney!)

Ahhh, yes, Arancini! My husband and I tried this for the first time several years ago in Amalfi. Absolutely delicious! At the time, we had a hard time finding it in the US; however, it can now be found at a couple of local Italian restaurants in our home town... And in the freezer section at Trader Joes (although they are much smaller than those in Italy).

  8. Another couple thoughts --

We tend to avoid places with pictures on the menus, especially those that are on main streets. Go off the beaten path and look for little places on side streets. In Venice, the restaurants along the Grand Canal, especially as you get closer to the Rialto, tend to be more touristy. The food isn't bad (it's Italy), but you'll find better if you venture off the main arteries.

Wonderful suggestions! I think I will definitely book a walking food tour in Rome.
