  1. And yet, Princess says cabin access can't happen unless the profile photo matches. I thought you had a very valid point and was surprised to read this Q&A item. I have no idea how it could work. Facial recognition at the cabin door seems kind of over the top. Scratching my head on this one.
  2. Good stuff. I have to admit I'm lacking in this area. About luggage/clothes. If I have an emergency abroad, they can keep it for all I care.
  3. Another best practice would be to have a list of meds, though I can't imagine anyone not having that handy. I'm kind of reaching here: Passwords for whatever medical portal(s) contains one's medical chart type info. Name, email, phone info for primary Doc and specialists (like cardiologists, etc). App for doing e-Med visit with one's physician while on the road. I had to do that once. Because it was my first time using the app, there was a lot of fumbling around.
  4. I agree and think the OP's concern is that the pair going on one excursion is under separate cabin bookings. I am among those that don't think there will be an issue, which I think is just about everyone. If it is causing the OP unnecessary worry, it is easy enough to confirm.
  5. Well said and you caught my attention. As I think about it we don't really have any emergency plans in place when we travel. What would those appropriate plans contain? Of course travel med insurance pops right up. What else can we do to be prepared? Kind of a list of best practices I guess.
  6. Gosh, it has been a while since I've been there but what you say about Hoboken and South Street Seaport is dead bang on.
  7. I'll go with the actual experience. I'm not even sure why you are making this argument unless you have something against going to guest services.
  8. Hopefully everyone has passports/ID in case of questions. If concerned I would explain the situation to guest services and then Enjoy!
  9. Isn't there a cruise port across the river in New Jersey also? Seems we went through there at least once.
  10. Sorry, didn't mean you. I think the average person will figure it out without too much trouble. Hopefully the OP, even if a young person, will be able to locate the US on a map.
  11. I've been out of Southampton quite a few times. Haven't made it to Dover -- yet.
  12. It is not the same at all. Your examples are inland cruise ship destinations with remote ports. NBT and I were talking about cruise destinations that while located on navigable waters have remote cruise ports.
  13. I agree the omission is off-putting. And I sure hope the requirements continue to loosen to the point they are gone completely. If concerned, at the bottom of the protocol Q&A page is a link to send an email with questions. If I had an US TA booked, that is what I would do.
  14. Thanks, I figured it had to include something special. Based on the pics you posted, I think I would go for the discounted pricing too.
  15. I too would have expected to see an exception for TAs leaving from US ports. On our last two cruises (Oct & Nov) the rules changed between the date we booked and the date we boarded the ship. We received notice, but still checked the website every once in a while for any updates.
  16. Aw shoot. Wrong Cruise Line! On our RCI Caribbean cruise last week we dressed what I would call CC Casual. A lot of the very young children were really decked out. It was pretty cool to seem them strutting around in their prince or princess outfits.
  17. We don't. We didn't go to the MRD on formal night, but from what I saw in public areas, I would say most did get dolled up during our Princess Cruise in Oct.
  18. The current protocols are on the RCI website. Click the link right at the top of the page.
  19. We were there a week or so ago. Rode the little shuttle train from the ship to Chill Island area. Hung out on Chill Island beach. There were plenty of chairs with umbrellas. Ate lunch at the Chill Grill buffet place right across the road next to the straw market. Cost us nothing. I'm assuming the fee you are paying gets you more than a beach chair. Maybe access into the water park areas., IDK.
  20. Of the three cruise line apps I've used so far, I found the medallion to be the best overall. We did not experience any reliability issues. And, I think we were actually on the same Princess cruise this past October. Sounds like glitches happen from device to device.
  21. Our SIL has no food allergies but mistakenly put some info in about her food preferences. In the MDR, her choice was questioned. She explained the mistake, but they could not override what was in the system. She had to go to guest services to make the correction. So, yeah, I agree it is a pretty good system.
  22. At the same time, the younger folks are getting older, so it isn't like that "old" demographic is going to disappear. Off course, the young ones moving up will never be as cool as we are! Haha We took our SIL (mid 60's) on her first Princess cruise last month. While she enjoyed many things about it, she categorized it as "Everyone is really old". I personally have enjoyed Princess for many years and look forward to future cruises with them. I guess I've finally achieved that "really old" status now. lol.
  23. I think most figure it out fairly quickly. I can never remember exactly where Civitavecchia is except of course it is generally west of Rome (can't spell it half the time either). How about major cruise destination cities on the ocean that have distant cruise ports? I can think of one major one right away -- Venice.
  24. I'm pretty sure the OP knows this. As already said, it is just commonly done. Not something to get too worked up about, IMO.
