So sorry to hear this Sheila.  Sure all of us have to accept the limitations that aging brings but this is entirely Regents fault.  Many of Regents clients (loyal clients) have mobility issues and they should have a  well managed structured approach to excursions and people with mobility issues.   Sending Sheila to the boat and then rejecting her was incredibly mean and poor management.

I don't personally know Sheila but from this forum she has impressed me as a very decent, good and fair person.  Regent should be ashamed.  This is not treatment she deserved.

My advice to you Sheila is to not let this ruin your vacation.   Unfortunately in life we have to deal with jerks, don't let them impact your vacation and have fun  Have a drink (or two) for me. 🍾🍷🍸🍹

Thanks so much…your opinion is important to me. You made me feel better.

I also don't get around as well as I once did so can understand your frustration.  I learned a lot on our last world cruise and one very important thing was from a fellow passenger.  He told me the key to enjoying such a trip is " accurate self evaluation".   He is very right.  Comes a time when you have to accept you cannot do what you did 10 or so years ago.  Ships don't have to accommodate every single problem a passenger might have and the others on an excursion don't deserve to have their outing slowed by someone trying to do more than they are now capable of.  I know that might not be a politically correct thought but there comes a time for all of us.

Thanks for your opinion…except this wasn’t the issue…

  3. We are on Splendor. I am some mobility issues. I can walk, but not too far and can do some steps. . So I visit the Shore Excursions desk the day I board to work out all our tours. We were aboard six weeks ago, as well. We worked out our excursions with Joanne..Excursions Manager. That trip was mostly successful.
this sailing…not so much. Finally met with Joanne yesterday. Today was St. Barts. A young man..Gersson was at the pier. I spoke with him before. He has no patience with anyone who has issues. He was also with us last sailing. Same problem. . We had booked a boat to sail around St. Barts. We tendered to the island. He advised us to just wait. Then everyone boarded the boat. Some woman then told us they would not let me board. It looked like every seat was now taken. BTW.. she kept my tickets so they will be paid. Now.. I was advised to return by tender to the ship. So much for our visit to St.. Barts. So disappointing!
One would think that Regent would try to arrange for folks like us to take tours. They are “included” for everyone except those with some mobility issues.
Everyone knows that I am a cheerleader for Regent, having sailed with them since 1992 on Raddison Diamond. Perhaps, it’s time for a new direction.

  4. We are onboard Splendor. Last night I counted at least 1/2 dozen men in jeans. Several in Prime 7.  I have no problem, however I thought the policy was NO jeans. No one said anything in any restaurant. The night before we were in CR and more men than last night were in jeans. . If this is permitted, please make it the new policy. My DH has nice jeans also. He would love to wear them in the evening, also. But, he respects the rules.
    so… what’s the decision?

  5. We were on Splendor in January and sailing again tomorrow. We loved our cruise. Except for lack of chairs at the pool, we experienced none of the issues discussed.
Dining was great in every restaurant. F and B Manager was present almost every night in the dining venues. I agree Seti Mara has become very popular and crowded. Plan accordingly.
Didn’t see the Hotel Manager. However, if I needed him, I knew where to find him.
Perhaps, I will be more critical next week…but I really don’t expect that.
We are regular Regent folks. My favorite!

Oh, I like to choose where my stuff goes also,  but it would be interesting to see if they improve on my skills, so I may just let them go for it!  It may give my husband a good story, a good laugh or hopefully some tips!

Since I am disabled, I have our butler unpack and pack for us. But, I do watch where everything is being stored and it’s where I can reach it.
    I just love this service!

  7. I was in my early fifties and had just been recently widowed in June, 1992 and my children suggested I take my first cruise alone. I booked  a Christmas- New Years Cruise on the Raddison Diamond.
it seems that when I arrived onboard, some of the crew knew my situation. I was personally greeted by the senior staff members, including the Captain.
At that time, there was dancing in the main dining room. It was wonderful. Staff members sat with me and I danced the whole evening.
My cabin was quite large. I made several friends aboard and had lovely dinners with them.
I will never forget this experience, transforming from a sad widow to seeing  a wonderful life ahead!

PS… that was 31 years ago. I remarried many years ago and my DH and I still sail Regent several times a year!

    • We sail on Navigator when the newer ships are not available for our time frame. It’s a delightful small ship. Service is the best. Suites are fine except for the bathroom, which is old…but clean! We prefer Explorer or Splendor but continue to sail on Navigator or Mariner, when necessary. . We only sail on Regent so we book whatever is available for us.

Not sure I understand the 'spend' approach, but I think Regent needs to do something about the erosion of benefits.  Being eternally 'Gold' has little meaning these days. But overall, the internet bandwidth issue is the biggest thing that needs fixing.

Agree… SSS program is worthless, for a gold member.

  9. Never had a poor butler on Regent. Usually outstanding. This last sailing, our butler was new. He did not have the experience to know certain things. I told him everything I liked and he followed up for us. Nothing wrong with instructions from a guest to make him more knowledgeable regarding his responsibilities.

  10. We always book a Penthouse…. We enjoy the separate rooms and love a butler. I am high maintenance due to physical disability.
So…I have our butler pack and unpack for us. It’s so much easier for me rather than have to explain to DH where to put things.

Our butler handles the laundry…twice during our cruise.

And, he has any creased items pressed when we board ship.
Her serves us breakfast in our suite or on the balcony.
    He brings snacks late afternoon.
He helps arrange additional specialty restaurant reservations.
We have been fortunate to enjoy the services of some fabulous butlers on our cruises.
BTW, we do say …thanks so much …with a generous gratuity!

I've been on 4 Regent cruises and never had free laundry service.  Does this option also include shirts (both long and short sleeve)? If so, it will make packing easier.

    Thanks

Yes… includes shirts. Wash, dry, press …also starch or none.

either returned folded or on hanger as per your request.
