  1. Hello NCL cruisers...I am looking at a 7 night Caribbean on Bliss and I have only sailed NCL once in Hawaii. I am very familiar with the Celebrity product. The cruise we are looking at takes us to Great Stirrup (sp) Cay. I have read a little on the official web site but I am wondering what people thought of the Cabana rentals.

Are they open to any cabin class?

What is the average rental price?

There are 6 of us...will there be 6 chairs?

If you have the Ultimate beverage package, does this transfer to the private island or are drinks extra?

    Is the food extra?

    Do you tender in?

How far is it from the tender port to the Cabanas?

    Is there preferential tendering?

And, now a couple of general ship questions...

What is the difference (besides price) between a mini suite and a balcony cabin?

What is the difference between a "large balcony" and a regular balcony?

Are the "shows" first come first serve, and is there a fee?

Where will Bliss dock in NYC? Bayonne or downtown?

    Thanks in advance, Julie

  2. Rates are less when you rent from a non- airport location. Less taxes. I did read that in some places, they levy the tax on returns. So if you do a one way, try and return it somewhere else.
A 2500 dollar tax? There has simply got to be a computer glitch of some sort here.

  3. $500 for one-way? As long as there's no cancel fee. grab that rate now while it's available. But keep checking over the next several months and hopefully you'll find something even cheaper.
I would grab 'cept My cruise is in Sept. of 2019 and I was just doing some price shopping. I will sure watch month to month for when 2019 opens. I think it is really odd that there are 2 significantly different prices on the web, dependent on where you pick up the car.

  4. It's not messy unless you were planning to pick up the car in Anchorage then spend the week in Homer with no plans to pass thru Anchorage again. But if you are heading up to Matanuska or Denali then stopping thru Anchorage on your way to Seward, it's a pretty simple transaction.

The 'messiest' transaction I ever saw was when the family disembarked in Seward, and 1 person took the bus to Anchorage, got a rental car then drove back to Seward to meet their party. But it saved a lot of money so they thought it was worth the time and effort.

    .

Yeah...don't like the sound of that.

  5. RT=Round trip. Rent a car in Anchorage to be returned in Anchorage. Then pick up a one-way rental from Hertz to be dropped in Seward.
Oh...Duh. we did think of this as well but seems a little messy. I guess I have to decide if we want the freedom of a car rental or the lesser flexibility of other transport means

  6. I am looking forward to your next blog contribution. May I ask how you note price changes? I have never noticed significant drops in cruise prices for my sailings and always wondered if there was some sort of site that alerts you to price drops. Perhaps I should just be more diligent in checking Celebrity's site for this information. Thanks, Julie

  7. Thanks for reading and commenting, especially Misha for the supplemental information.....it looks like you did all things I didn't....haha.

I didn't check the trikes page but I'd guess the ride might be kind of rough. The roads aren't exactly smooth and I had my rented Jeep bouncing around a bit. I saw a trike tour leaving when I returned the Jeep and they looked pretty low to the ground

i did not want to hijack your thread with my Trikes issues. Happy sails in the future

  8. DH and I were on this cruise as well and enjoyed our first Suite experience immensely. Would agree with all points made. We also dined at Sushi on 5...food was fine but we were asked no less than 10 times if all was good...just a little annoying is all. Of course we had to try the Gastro Pub burger, which was good but the Bone Marrow starter was a star! So nummy. Murano for lunch, which was a little more low key than in the evening and still delicious. We visited Michael's club once...upon embarkation Too stuffy for us. Our Luminae servers were perfection and our room steward was quick as lightening. We asked for the sparkling wine to be changed out and this was done without additional charge. We did not use any Celebrity sponsored excursions. We stayed on the ship in GC and Curacao and took an evening Trike tour in Aruba...of which I am not yet recovered from. I.DO NOT recommend! However, in Bonaire, the Golf carts were alot of fun...reserve early! We rented another cart in Key West which saved on DH's back and knees. The alcohol flowed, the food was terrific. The shows were good...we really enjoyed the Beatles tribute band. Martini bar was hopping, get there between dinner service to find a seat. Visited World Class bar once...did not go back...not for any other reason other than we did not care for the drinks there. (we are generally wine drinkers) The only surly staff we found were at the bar in Ocean view...they seemed a bit overworked. They should take lessons from the Martini Bar staff. I was a little surprised at the mean age on board...and heard a few grumbly passengers but,...an excellent experience was had in all respects from our standpoint..

  9. Just wanted to pass on my thoughts regarding our Sunset Trike Excursion. When we signed up for this sightseeing trip, I was aware that some of it would be in the dark. What I was not aware of is the level of difficulty in staying together as a group due to the traffic pulling in between the trikes. At least half of our tour was spent in uninteresting neighborhoods and traffic jams. We were taken up to a lighthouse and chapel but it was so dark by this time, there was nothing to see. One of the riders commented...I wonder if they brought us here to dump the bodies. Frequently we lost the group due to the traffic...the lead trike would pull thru an intersection and leave the rest of us there...bugs, dust, significant bumps, and the darkness of night...I was so happy when it ended. I truly feared for my life.

  10. Well, that's kinda the point. I think I will avoid any carryons bigger than my large over the shoulder bag. Keep the jewels, electronics and meds with me and let the rest fend for itself. Then I won't need to find stashing room as I wait for my cabin to be available...it's hard to carry a drink and manage luggage after all

And that's a first world problem if I ever heard one

  11. Leaving your carry on luggage in MC isn't the big deal people are making it here. You just find an empty corner and leave your stuff there while you go to lunch and return after lunch to wait for your suite to be available or just pick it up and go if they are already available. As others have said you can leave it by the hostess stand in Luminae as well. In either case you aren't really checking it with someone but rather just conveniently getting it out of the way so you aren't dragging it about the ship.

  12. Never been escorted on or off the ship regardless of suite level. Makes no difference to us and we'd be embarrassed if it happened. It would feel like a "look at me" moment

Thank you...I totally would feel on display as well. I just did not want to say so until you mentioned it. Nice touch for those who like it but if it not consistent then why bother?
