  2. We went as far as Strasbourg and were bussed to Rudesheim. Now sailing north of Rudesheim. River is high.
  3. Portions of the Rhine are closed to all river traffic.
  4. Dress has deteriorated greatly. At least half the people dress like slobs. So basically you can wear whatever the heck you want.
  5. Just curious, why would you spend the money for a hotel just so you do not have to pay for lunch the next day? The first day lunch is a simple buffet and nothing to write home about
  6. Rule number 1. Put your passport in the safe in your room and leave it there. Have a photocopy of your passport to carry around on your person. It and Viking Port. You could have the front desk. Call your cab to take you to wherever you want to go. You just have to be mindful that this is not an ocean cruise and a river boat may move during the day to a separate location. You have to ask the front desk if the boat will be moving etc. If you Google around, you can find various samples of the drink pricing menus. Overall, it is very reasonable. You can also bring your own wine on board and there is no corkage fee at the dining room or anywhere on the shed. I'm on B to A now We arrived by train and spent the night in a hotel and then took the free tram down to the dock. There are various websites that will tell you the location of the boat. Just type in the name of the boat and it will come up on a map. You can also call or email the ship. When we go to Breisach Germany, we plan to take the morning excursion and in the afternoon take a cab to the train station and then a local bus to Colmar. We also do land-based touring on our own with small suitcases and use the trains and public transportation. You really can't compare that kind of trip with a river cruise. The river cruise affords a level of not having to worry as much about where your next meal was going to be or where you're going. You also get to travel between the cities with no effort. The downside of course is you don't get the immersion or the local meals etc. About every third or fourth vacation we take a Viking cruise.
  7. Anyone know if the Colmar WW II tour stops at any Maginot Line artifacts?
  8. For the B to A trip it looks the boat stops in Speyer in morning and then leaves f or Rudesheim once the walking tour gets back. Is the scenery between Speyer and Rudesheim worth staying on the boat? We were thinking of booking a local guide in Speyer to take us to Heidelberg and then meet the boat in Rudesheim. Has anyone used Henry C. He is a local guide from that area.
  9. Did the Colmar WWII tour allow anytime in the Colmar old town?
