Pre cruise and background info
My mom and I started cruising together in 2009 and this cruise was our 11th cruise. Mom has cruised with my dad a few other times, so she finally turned platinum on this cruise! We are both teachers in southeast Missouri and we look forward to our yearly cruise! For me, school ended two days before the cruise so it was a mad dash to finish the school year and pack! After school let out, I drove to my boyfriend's house, who only lives 2 miles from my parents and was in bed pretty early.
We left mom's house about 6 a.m. the day before the cruise and had a few plans for the drive down to New Orleans. Mom is a huge blues music fan, so we drove all over Mississippi, to tiny towns like Alligator and Bobo, to find Blues Markers. We also visted the Dockery Plantation and really enoyed it. Mom and I are also history nerds, so we decided to visit the Poverty Point Mound site, as well. The site was huge and our guide was very informative. Little is known about the Poverty Point people because they lived before written language existed in North America. That truly boggles my mind. We wrapped up the tour by climbing to the top of Mound A and we off we went. We had reservations at the Quality Inn in McComb, MS for that night. The hotel was fine, but the TV didn't work. A hotel employee tried twice to fix it, but when he couldn't, he offered to move us to a new room, but we were so tired from our 14 hour day, we just stayed in the room. The room was clean and the beds were soft. We did some last minute packing and got ready for Embarkation Day!

Just off the Sunshine this morning. Had a great week. The staff was outstanding in every way. Mikey ( the CD ) was very entertaining. Must say that some people should be required to take a courtesy class before being allowed to
cruise. I'm quite sure some would not pass .
We've had Mikey as a CD, and I agree that he is great!

You are not owed (nor do you deserve) compensation for a missed port. However, you should have had your port fees refunded, as well as a refund for any shore excursions that you might have booked through the cruise line.

We have an 8 hour drive to port, but we always leave a day or two before. I think the most have have traveled the day of the cruise has been 2 hours.

I've hear great things about the Glory and I'm excited to cruise on it next month!

Thanks everyone. I didn't realize that the Glory hadn't done a 7 day out of NO yet. Looks like they have a 7 day leaving May 19th but we leave right after that on the 26th
I am on the May 19th cruise! I will try to post the Fun Times when we get back, although, that may not help you all that much.

My vote is for Palancar.

I loved the Dream!

Yes, you can get keys to your children's room. Just go to Guest Services and they will get them for you.

I carried on all of my luggage on the last cruise and will do it on my next one. It wasn't a big deal.

Meclizine...it's the only thing that works for me.

I wouldn't get a suite, but for that long, I would at least get an ocean view room.

Just download books before you leave home. That's what I do.

Would that be glass bottles? as opposed to PET-plastic bottles?
Last time I cruised (awhile ago)
I had six PET-plastic bottles of Ginger Ale in my checked luggage
and I received them at the cabin in my luggage -
but things may have changed by now?
You are no longer allowed to take bottles on board at the home port.

No bottles allowed, only cans/boxes.
That's true for the home port. I have taken plastic bottles of soda and tea back on the ship from various ports for years. Most recently was in May of last year.

You won't be able to take any alcohol to your room, but you can definitely bring soda, water, etc. We always bring a few bottles of soda back on with us.

We choose Carnival because of the price and the fact that we have 3 ports within driving distance. We are pretty laid back cruisers, so Carnival meets our needs.

They aren't my favorite type of cabin, but they don't bother me. I sleep so well in them!

I love my dog more than I even like most people, but I would not want to take him a cruise. I know he is safe with my dad while I am gone, so I don't worry about him.
A GLORY-ous Trip! May 19-26 review w/ pictures!
