  1. Good morning all. When I opened the bedroom blinds this morning I was greeted by a flock of wild turkeys pecking at seeds in the lawn, there must have been 30 walking on the lawns on both sides of the street. By the time it dawned on me to take a picture, most had moved down the street. What a sight! One of the Toms was strutting and fanning his tail. Me thinks mating season. just above freezing but hoping the sun will come out. Making progress on income taxes. I got confirmation yesterday that I have a year from July to file my father’s trust tax form so that can be handled after this crush to get 2023 taxes done. And I have someone experienced that will do it, for a fee of course, which I am happy to pay to get it done right. prayers for those that need them and a celebratory shout out to those cruising or celebrating.
  2. Happy birthday @Quartzsite Cruiser and Mitzi @Overhead Fred. Hope you both have a great day hugs to you @Nickelpenny. Always hard to lose a beloved pet but even sadder when you are so far from home. lovely sunshine today, warming up. DH is itching to work in the garden and has gone to DD’s house to hoe the beds he set up last weekend. Unfortunately it will get very cold again in about a week. My hellebores survived the last bout of cold, hopefully they will survive the next one too.
  3. Good morning all. Chilly here but the sun is shining. Makes such a difference. @kazuwindsor does have a 311 system, phone and online. Not sure if it is an Ontario thing or an individual city thing. I have used it to report our street being missed for garbage pickup, to report dumping at our local park, etc. it works quite well. You get a case number and can monitor the follow-up. we arrived home from our winter in Florida on the day COVID was declared a pandemic. Who knew that our lives would be turned upside down for so long. still working on taxes. Three grandchildren completed. Will complete two adults today. Waiting for paperwork to complete ours and will seek professional help to complete my father’s final return. I’ve encountered an issue I don’t understand. Still have til end of April so all is good. prayers for those that need them and a celebratory shout out to those travelling or celebrating a special event.
  4. @grapau27my condolances to you, Pauline and Sarah. Perhaps her mother will consider reconciliation now. Best wishes going forward. ah genealogy! One of my DGD has taken an interest in the info I have on our side of the family and is researching her father’s side (Scottish). We are in interesting line. My sister and I were born in Germany because that’s where our parents and grandparents ended up after being driven out of Croatia after the Second World War. But, even though they were born in Croatia and my great grandparents were born in Hungary, they always considered themselves German. Technically they are ethnic Germans and ended up in Hungary and Croatia during the time of the Hapsburgs when they ruled all these lands and were giving away land to people who would clear it and farm it. My original ancestors were from Germany, strangely enough from the Frankfurt area where my parents landed as refuges. It was a tough existence for the original settlers and everything they gained was left behind. I have been able to visit the small town in Croatia were my parents are from. Canada has been good us and it really is the only place my sister and I know as I was two and she was one when we immigrated. cold today and getting colder but the week will warm up again, have a good weekend everyone. Prayers for those that need them and a shoutout to those celebrating or cruising.
  5. Another tough decision, Jack, but you know your dog. Wishing you all the best. btw, thank you for mentioning me but Debbie is back doing the meal of the day. I can’t take credit for the great job she does.
  6. So hard to let them go. I still miss my Rocky after many many years. Hugs to you.
  7. @Quartzsite Cruiserhappy birthday to your DH we have clear skies and 10c (52f) this morning but the rain that @dfishis getting now will hit us around noon and we will cool down a bit tomorrow. I spent much of yesterday at the computer starting everybody’s tax files. Amazing how they forget from one year to the next what I need from them. We do have until end of April to get it done! work has started in the garden, clearing debris, planting a few more garlic and getting seeds started indoors. DH is on the hunt for the same romaine seeds he had last year. Unfortunately he didn’t keep the packet those seeds came in so I can’t help him! prayers for those that need them and a celebratory shout out to those cruising or celebrating.
  8. @Haljo1935eere the goats running loose in Arlington in your neighborhood? Quite the police effort to corral them!
  9. Yes, Bienenstich (bee sting cake) is German and I regularly make it for the family. Glad you enjoyed it.
  10. Her newest one, The Grey Wolf, comes out in October. We have visited the eastern townships area where the books take place!
  11. "March is the month God created to show people who don't drink what a hangover is like." - Garrison Keillor Poor March. It is the homeliest month of the year. Most of it is mud, Every Imaginable Form of Mud, and what isn't mud in March is ugly late-season snow falling onto the ground in filthy muddy heaps that look like piles of dirty laundry." - Vivian Swift, When Wanderers Cease to Roam: A Traveler's Guide to Staying Put I couldn’t resist copying these two quotes from the March newsletter from my favourite author, Louise Penny. Our March day is calm and sunny, warming up all day. We should have a lovely weekend but March isn’t done with us yet! And the west coast weekend forecast is proof. Have a good day, all
  12. Our celebratory dinner tonight. Pickerel (walleye), roasted sweet potatoes, roasted asparagus and a salad. Plus a lovely Spanish red wine Gran Coronas Reservation, a Cabernet Sauvignon
  13. @JazzyVyou keep remarkable records. Thank you for the anniversary shoutout. And thanks to everyone for their good wishes. We were so young!
  14. Crazy February weather. We are due for thunderstorms today, getting to 60f and the weather channel says severe weather including tornados possible late today. The track is from Chicago thru Detroit which would include us. We will keep an eye to the sky and sleep in the basement bedroom if things really look dicey. prayers for those needing them and cheers to those celebrating or cruising
  15. I would gladly donate to pbs just for passport but unfortunately we can’t use it in Canada, maybe with a vpn
  16. Ah nuts, I hate when that happens. I need to look at getting britbox!
  17. Well, after a couple of above freezing days with sunshine, warm enough to wash the car in the driveway, we have a few snowflakes dancing outside and are below freezing. But only for a couple of days and then we will warm up again. gardening club note: dh planted leek seeds yesterday in trays. They will live in our sunroom near the gas fireplace for several weeks but will likely be planted in the garden by end of April. I should ask him for a tray of leaf lettuce. It could do well in the sunroom. We are worried about the garlic. It never got much snow cover over winter and although it was covered in leaf mulch it looks like it is growing. I checked my hellebores yesterday and they have a few blossoms again and some new leaf growth. I hope these couple of cold days don’t knock them down again, the early buds in January froze and never bloomed. house cleaning today, my 3 British shows tonight, (death in paradise, father brown, midsomer murders) and my next Peter Lovesey book featuring detective Peter Diamond. Have a good weekend everyone.
  18. Kudos to my DH who finished the puzzle of the Sistine chapel in about two weeks. It is quite the intricate puzzle.
  19. Good morning all. My mother tongue was German and I didn’t speak English until I went to school in grade 1 even though we arrived in Canada when I was 2. We got a tv about the same time I started school and that helped with learning the language. I speak some French but I wish I was better at that. another warm, for February, day here but cloudy today. Yesterday was a lovely sunshiny day. I am hoping we have seen the worst of winter but I don’t really think Mother Nature is done with us yet! prayers for those who need them and a celebratory shout out to those cruising or marking milestones.
