  1. Thank you for the detailed review.  Along with the previous poster, I will be sailing the Hawaii to Vancouver cruise next May.  You didn't mention anything about the sea days between Vancouver and Hawaii.  I have never been on a ship for that many sea days in a row and I'm curious what type of activities were offered on those days and whether you'd recommend any of them.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. We are in Oahu for two days before the cruise and I was thinking of perhaps trying to see a luau.  I heard Germaine's is really good (and is in Kapolei relatively near our hotel).  The question is, do I really need to see a luau?  Is it just one of those things for tourists?  They seem quite pricey.  Is it worth it? Advice please!

  3. I have read many reviews and live reports about Liberty and have heard several people write about the slides. However, no one has said if there is a weight restriction on the slides. Also, are there mostly kids using the slides? Are there many adults? I'll be 50 at the time of our sailing, but I'm still a kid at heart and would love to try the slides. They look so fun.

Thanks in advance for your response.

  4. Thanks! I never thought of that! Do you use your phones for time? I worry about that since my phone changes to match local time. I quit wearing a watch years ago!

I'm old fashioned and still wear my watch. I don't carry my phone with me on cruises because of roaming charges. I did have it on the ship though and it did not change to match local time. (It was on airport mode to avoid accidentally accessing data and incoming phone calls - not sure if that is why it didn't change or not. It's an iphone.)

  5. Could you tell me if the ship time changed at all during the cruise? Or did you stay of Ft Lauderdale time? We have booked some private tours and want to ensure we don't get mixed up between local and ship time? Thanks in advance

I was on this sailing and can answer that question. We did change ship times. On the way down, we moved our clocks one hour and then moved them back on the way home. Each time our stateroom attendant left a note the night before we were to change reminding us.

  6. SNIP....

The bathrooms are a fair size for a cruise ship stateroom. One of my complaints is that if you try to adjust the water temperature before you actually get in the shower, it's a little difficult to keep from getting water all over the bathroom floor.

And my other gripe is that they no longer stock the tissue containers with tissues. Apparently, people had been flushing tissues down the toilet which can clog them. Though I find it completely understandable that people were using tissues in place of toilet paper because the TP provided was nearly transparent and as soft as a fine-grain sandpaper. Is that too much bathroom talk for you?

Great to see this review. I was on this cruise with my family and am looking forward to hearing/seeing someone else's perspective

For the shower, a piece of advice. Take the shower head out of its holder, point it to the floor and adjust the temperature before spraying it on yourself. I found that this worked well.

I, too, noticed that there was no longer tissue in the bathroom. However, I found the box of tissue in vanity drawer. Good thing too, because I caught a cold and went through the whole box of tissue!

  7. Just back this morning from my IOS New Year's cruise. It was a good cruise and I really enjoyed the ship and very friendly staff. I have no real complaint in regards to the cruise but, wanted to hip people on my experience with the inch of gold sold on Royal ships.

I bought a 10" anklet on Enchantment last Sept and wore it approx 2 weeks before it broke. I was told when I bought the anklet that if there were any problems, I could bring it back on any Royal ship and it would be replaced. Well I bought the line. The anklet was only $27, no big deal and since I knew I would be going on IOS in December, I decided to bring the anklet back with me then. Normally, I would have just thrown it away, but 2 weeks.

When I explained to the salesperson what had happened and showed my receipt from EOS, "That's another company. We have nothing to do with that." ME:but I was told I could return it on any of Royal's ship if there was a problem". " Did we tell you that? We don't tell customers that. Royal uses two companies and that's from the other company." After I caused a scene at their selling table, one of the clerks finally decided to fix the broken link, taking him, maybe, a minute or two.

You know, I could have just walked away from there vowing never to sale on Royal again (would't do that because I like Royal). The thing that got me was, I had just spent over three thousand dollars on that cruise and for $27 they risk losing Royal a good customer. Point is, just be leery of that inch of gold guarantee bit.

Again, I had a blast on the cruise:p

My brother had a similar experience. Like others on this thread have mentioned the gold lost its luster. When he asked on our Christmas cruise on IOS, he was told that they were a different company than the one he had purchased it from (he bought it while on Oasis) and they refused to replace it. I know he said he was not going to stand for it and planned to go back later and try again. I have no idea if he was successful, but my brother is not the type to take it.

  8. Just off Indy last week. I don't remember reserved seating for D or D+ in the theatre. Usually there is a staff member blocking off the Gold seating, but I don't remember seeing this last week.

As for ice show tickets, they were being distributed on the first sea day. You just line up and pick up tickets for your preferred show. There was only one show but it was showing 4 times so getting tickets was not a problem. If you have a preference for one show or another, get there early to ensure you get the show you want. Watch the compass for times.

Good luck and enjoy your cruise!

  9. We're sailing on Saturday and I have received 2 emails and 1 phone call "suggesting" when I could board based on the deck my cabin is on. Is this new? I have never heard of this. The earliest time they are having people board is at 12:30pm and then only diamond, diamond plus and pinacle. I was planning on getting to the cruise port at around 11:00am.

Is this truly a "suggestion" or might they make me wait until the suggested boarding time?

  10. I second that.

If you want a nice treat, try my favourite, Peach Fana Zero. I drank that non stop.

I miss it in there is no Free Style Coke machines East of Toronto

Not true. I live northeast of Toronto and we have 2 of them at Wendy's in our little town of 77000. There are also at least 3 in the Ottawa area.

I looked in New Brunswick but wasn't able to locate any there.
