  1. Catedral de San Juan Bautista - 151 Calle Cristo

Hi there. The cathedral is here:

    https://www.google.ca/maps/place/Catedral+de+San+Juan+Bautista/@18.465627,-66.118002,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x8c036ec757debc93:0xcdfcc44891040630

It is within easy walking distance. We always stop in. One year we were there for Ash Wednesday.

Thanks so much. Now we just need to find out what time Christmas Mass will be. I'm hoping we can find out online now that we know the name and address of cathedral.

  2. Is Hyatt Fort Lauderdale Airport Hotel the same thing as Hyatt Place? Any word on how good their Trio Suites are? There will be 4 or 5 of us staying in the room for the night and their 2 bedroom suite with a pull out couch seemed like a good deal at $339.00 (We'll be going just before Christmas)

    Any comments?

    Thanks in advance!

  3. We will be in port on Christmas Day off the Independence of the Seas. What can we expect to be open and what should we plan on this stop? We are only in port until 2 PM. Is it hopeless???

Hi 5280mom, we'll be there too and are also wondering what to do. We'll be monitoring this thread to see what people suggest. In the meantime, why don't you join our roll call for Dec 20 Independence of the Seas: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1914909

  4. Most be some deal on. I checked pricing this morning and discovered a $300 drop. I called Royal Caribbean right away and they gave both me and my mom credit. We are both sailing solo in balcony cabins on Independence of the Seas for Christmas and we each saved over $300! We lost the $75 on board credit we got for the WOW sale last week, but it was worth it. We're still ahead!

  5. Studio (SI) are excluded from the extra point

This is from the C&A member benefits page

    https://secure.royalcaribbean.com/cas/benefits.do

14 One Cruise Point for each completed night of sailing and an extra Cruise Point per night when you purchase and sail in suite accommodations (categories RL, RS, PS, SL, TS, A1, A2, A3, CL, OS, FS, GS, JS) and/or sail in any category and pay a single pricing type for double occupancy staterooms. All other rates including Travel Agent rates, as well category SI and SB, are excluded from single price type extra point promotion. Cruisetours are included as an additional night per each day on the cruise tour. Points will be awarded by rate paid not rate berthed, for example, in the instance of an upgrade from an outside to a suite category.

I'm curious when this started. I cruised solo for New Years 2012 and didn't get double cruise points. Is it too late to try to get credit for them?

  6. I found the fountain Diet Coke to have a funny chemically type taste. On the CB I found one bar that served soft drinks (soda) from cans only. If you ordered a soda from that bar with your soda and more package they poured it from a can into your cup or gave you a glass with it. It was the aft bar near the adults only aft pool. Perhaps other ships might have bars like this too. I really enjoyed the mocktails, and it didn't take too many to make the package worth while. You're right though - the package cannot be used at Princess Cays.

  7. I, too, was on this cruise and didn't notice any problems with the entertainment staff. All the "shows" I went to were fine. Mind you I didn't attend any Karaoke (except the tail end of one and that seemed fine). I attended all but one of the shows in the theatre, bingo, Marriage Match, the quest and others and never saw any problems.

The cruise was really nice and I had a great time. The cruise director, Lee Childers, was fine - not fantastic but ok.

I found that the Piazza had considerable variety. Yes, the steel drummer did play there several times, but he also played at other venues as did many of the entertainers.

We had fantastic weather. It only rained once - just before we disembarked at San Juan and it stopped before we got off the ship.

The food was really good and there was lots of selection. My friend is a vegetarian and had no trouble finding something to her liking in the dining room or at the buffet. We did not try the premium restaurants. We enjoyed our waiter, Chris Napay from the Philippines, too much.

Any other questions, feel free to ask.

  8. I just came back from the July 12-19th sailing of CB and had purchased the soda and more package. I think I got my money's worth. My tip has to do with good soda. Most of the bars and restaurants give you fountain pop. I found the diet Coke to have a strange chemical taste when it came from the fountain and because I didn't buy the ultimate drink package (the $50 a day package) they didn't offer drinks from a can. However I found a bar on CB that only serves soda from can - no fountain. They don't give you the can, but pour it from a can into your glass. This bar is located just next to the aft adult pool on deck 15 - behind Horizon Court. Worth the walk to get some good soda.

  9. I've been looking at deck plans of the CB to familiarize myself with the ship. On many decks at the very aft there appears to be an area port and starboard that have public balconies. Is this so? If so are there chairs there or is it only a place to stand enjoy the view?

    Thanks!

  10. Hi, we are going to Eastern Caribbean in a week on Caribbean Princess. I try to decide if we will spend the day in St. Thomas or take the ferry to St. John (Magen's beach vs. Trunk Bay in St. John)? Any recommendation is appreciated. We like beach and snorkel but are more relax and easy style. Is excursion on our own easy to do? I think the cruise will stay in port from 7am-8pm.

By the way, does either beach have chair and snorkel gears to rent? Thanks

    Hi-

The wife and I are also on the 7/12 sailing and it looks like 4 additional ships in port that day. I am assuming we will dock at Crown Bay so I will either do the ship tour to St. John or go to Emerald Beach, which I like and is usually less crowded and closer than the other beaches.

Hello Activeislander and cwtravel. You should join our active roll call on the Caribbean Princess roll call forum: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1912582

Pay no attention to the fact that it says 14 days to the Caribbean. Most of us "chatting" on the thread are only doing 7 days. It is only that the person starting the thread is doing a B2B - thus 14 days.

At least one person on the roll call has done these ports and may have some insight on your question. By the way - we are in port in St. Thomas from 7am to 5pm - not 8pm.

  11. I found 2 independent tour guides for Gibb's Cay on Trip Advisor

The first is Grand Turk Diving and they charge $55.00 per person for pretty much the same excursion as the cruise ship (Princess). I guess one advantage is that it might be a smaller boat and more intimate with longer stays at each location - they do both the wall and stingrays Their email is info at gtdiving dot com

The second one is scdivers at tciway dot tc. (I can't remember their name but it was something like Salt Cays Diving.) They wouldn't give me a price unless I had 4 people.

I've decided that I might as well go with the ship tour since both tours appear to do the snorkel portion of the excursion and it is slightly cheaper on Princess ($49)

Hope this helps everyone who is interested.
