  1. How long does it typically take to receive your eDocs? On NCLs website it says they are typically available 60 days out. I'm sailing on the Jewel northbound to Alaska on August 20th and doing the Authentic Alaska Cruise-tour (14-days total), and currently 33 days out and no documents yet. Curious if anyone else has had to wait so long, and if anyone has any guesses when they may become available

Just guessing but you might want to make sure that all of your on line check in is 100% complete. We always do this as soon as our cruise is booked and have never had a problem.

  2. We have done many cruises and for the last several have always cabbed from the airport to the cruise terminals. We have discovered this time that flying into FLL, staying at the Best Western Plus in Miami overnight and then cruising out of the Miami cruise port has some problems.

    1. Transportation from FLL to the Best Western Plus is pricey. (We are looking into cab alternatives (we have no smart phones so Uber may not work))

    2. Transportation from the Miami cruise dock back to FLL may also be problematical.

I would appreciate any tips. From what I have learned so far, if we want to pre book transportation we need to do it soon.

  3. We are used to taking cabs from the airport to the cruise terminal but this time we are going a day early and are staying at the Best Western Plus Miami Airport North Hotel and Suites. We are flying into Fort Lauderdale and want to know the cheapest way to get to the hotel from the airport. We called the hotel and their shuttle only goes to Miami International.

Sorry this is on the Norwegian section but I could not find anywhere else to put this.

  4. I will never cease to be amazed when I read a review by "an experienced cruiser" that gives a poor review on a ship when the only thing that they really griped about in the review was the behavior of unattended children.

When you look at the time of the cruise it always seems to be when school is not in session.

If you really are an "experienced cruiser" you should know better than to cruise at these times. And, if you have children that have to go with you, suck it up, and realize that that is the way of the cruise world.

  5. Most of my cruises have been on NCL but I have also cruised several times with Princess. Any cruise that NCL has that starts to get a little pricey I go to Princess; and, even if it is a few bucks more, I will book the Princess. Unless you have children who need to be entertained that is a good option.

  6. I don't know the specifics of your occupation, how employable you are, or how much you like your job. But having all of that permission in writing maybe it would be a good time to consult a labor attorney or at least hint at such an action with your boss if he/she gets a little testy about it.

  7. As many Norwegian cruises as I have been on, I have never tried the noodle bar which is complimentary and would like to know what to expect as far as selection goes. Anyone have any comments or suggestions?

  8. Hi all,

I am cruising for the first time as a Platinum latitudes member and I had a few questions.

    1. It is not posted on my NCL page that I get 2 free dinners, is that normal?(it does list the internet minutes and shareholders benefit on the page, but nothing else) If I make reservations ahead of time will I be charged immediately or will it be comped?

    2. Can I use the 2 free dinners for two as one dinner and take 2 guests?

    3. Does the "free" dinner include gratuities?

    4. If both my husband and I just got Platinum, do we both get 2 free dinners for two? So that would mean between us, we get 4 dinners? Score if that is the case.

    5. Lastly, can we give our dinners to others? If we have two dinners, can we give the other two to our adult children?

    Thanks everyone.

You cannot make reservations prior to the cruise for these dinners (platinum). You must make these reservations upon boarding; the sooner the better.

  9. If anyone ever came up with a WORKABLE solution to chair hogging I am sure that the cruise industry would be happy to pay for it and they would also get a big thank you from all of the regular cruisers world wide.[/q

I originally asked this question because on a cruise a couple of years ago we went during the super bows and my mother in law and wife were sitting in a couple of chairs so that I could watch the game (they were physically in the chairs, not leaving things there to save them for me). When I returned from my excursion and told them to forget it there was a person who I overheard say "grab those chairs and we can go ashore for a couple of hours and come back and have a place to watch the game from".

These are the type of people who are only about themselves and care little about those of us who payed for the same cruise and want an equal chance to use the same facilities as everyone else.

  11. If there are some real readers in your group I would recommend bringing a kindle. We have one of the originals with the keyboard and have way more books in them than we have time to read them on any cruise we have ever been on. They take up almost no room and can be easily stored with your valuables and electronics that you take on the plane with you. I would not depend on the ship having something for everyone and, besides, you may be forced to spend more time reading than you had intended in order to finish a book before the end of the cruise or having to get a copy at home.

  12. We are cruising on the Getaway in January with our daughter and her family. We both got the UDP and want to dine together. Should we just book separately for the same time and have them put us together when we get to the restaurant or is there another option.

P.S. We always book 5:30 and when arriving at the restaurants they are always empty as this seems to be a less desirable time for most people.

  13. It’s been two years since our last NCL cruise so I don’t remember what we wore. Last few cruises were HAL so definitely dressy. I do remember feeling a bit overdressed on NCL. But it’s one of the few times I can get my teen son to dress up so...

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

I wear dress pants or cargo shorts and a collared shirt and my wife wears dress pants and a blouse.

The exception is Le Bistro which required long pants and collared shirt.

  14. We started taking a cab a couple of years ago and it was indeed cheaper for two to take a taxi to and from the airport in Tampa, Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. Even if I were going by myself I would take a cab. It beats sitting in a hot bus waiting for it to fill before they will leave.

I don't know if it is as advantageous to do this from LAX to the cruise dock and back but that is a question for another thread.

    Good luck.

  15. Can you link the review so we can see the context.

Sorry, I am about as computer illiterate as you can get but the review in question was concerning the Getaway by cpier2473; and it was the most recent review.

I hope that this helps and that someone can provide an answer.

  16. We are taking a 2 week cruise to the Panama Canal in Nov. 2018 on the NCL Bliss, and are very excited. We took this cruise specifically to see the Panama Canal, as this is on my husbands bucket list.

My question is, I am not very excited about any of the ports stops on this cruise:

    Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

    Manzanillo, Mexico

    Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala

    Puntarenas, Costa Rica

    Cartegena, Columbia

Do some people just stay on the ship and enjoy the ship the entire time? Will they service the "FREE COCKTAILS" packages during the time the ship is in port?

I'm 70 and my wife is 65; but we both like active excursions. We took the 10 day Jade Panama cruise in February and only got off once because either the ride to the excursions were too long or, in the case of Cartagena only "old people" tours were offered as excursions. We had a great time and almost never book our cruises for the excursions.

The Canal was on my bucket list, as with your husband, and my wife went; but reluctantly. She was glad she went; the Canal is a marvel considering it was built over one hundred years ago with the engineering of the day.

  17. I hope that this is not a repeat post.

I read a review by a Cruise Critic member that had a cryptic statement that said, "after 6 years it is as if you didn't exist".

I am assuming that it refers to Latitude members but I am not sure.

Does anyone have any idea as to what the statement refers to??

  18. I saw a tv special on World of the Seas (I think that that was the name), a private cruise ship where you purchase space for millions of dollars and design and build your own private suite.

During the special it was mentioned that open flames were prohibited and all cooking devices were required to be electric.

They even had sensors in the cabin kitchen areas that automatically sealed off the kitchen if a flame was detected.

I don't know if this was a Coast Guard requirement or just an insurance situation.
