  1. You will be on the Sapphire in August, but for those sailing her after her January 2012 drydock this is from my post on another thread,

I just received the 2012-2013 Cruise Atlas in the mail today and for the first time the deck plans of all Princess ships are shown. I saw a Sanctuary on the Sapphire which will be added during her January drydock, so I looked more closely. It appears that Princess has included the post drydock deck plans for the Sapphire. If accurate, this is apparently much of what will be done during her drydock.

    • A new pizzeria (Alfredo’s?) will occupy the current Circle Desk and Library area and a new Vines Wine Bar will occupy the current Writing Room and Future Cruise Sales area. This will be similar to the new arrangement on the Grand.
    • The Circle Desk, Future Cruise Sales and Library will occupy what was part of the Casino on the starboard side of the elevators and stairway across from the current Arcade.
    • The new International Café will occupy the Shore Excursions Desk area. It appears that the Lobby Bar area will be essentially unchanged as on the Star, Caribbean and Golden rather than the new reworked area on the Grand.
    • The Shore Excursions Desk will occupy the current Arcade area. The Arcade appears to be gone for good.
    • The Savoy Dining Room will be combined with the Vivaldi Dining Room and a portion of the old Savoy Dining Room along the windows will be converted into the new Crown Grill.
    • The Wake Bar is no more to make room for an expansion of the International Dining Room to compensate for the seating lost in the portion of the old Savoy Dining Room turned into the Crown Grill.
    • The Internet Café is being reduced in size and Sabatini’s will expand along the windows on the port side.
    • No Window Suites or Tea Library.

Thanks for posting this....I haven't opened my Cruise Atlas but I will now :)

  2. There was no obstruction at all in front of our window. The big White Box is to the far right and not near the window.

    4. Leaving Antigua

We were lucky and did not find any one outside our window during this cruise. We did hear them very early in the morning cleaning the window.

These pics are great! Thanks for taking the time to post them :D

  4. This is a dumb question but...for anyone who has flown into San Juan for their cruise...did you put your Carnival luggage tags on before your flight or after? If I do it after then I guess I have to bring a stapler!

Someone on another thread said that the airport people rip them off if they are on there. I leave today, any suggestions?

    Thanks!

I have always put them on after I claim my luggage in San Juan. That way by the time I get to the port I am ready to hand my bags over to the porters :)

  5. We did this excursion this past Dec.

We loved the drift snorkel so much that we are taking another cruise that includes bonaire just to do it again.

You take the inflatable boat from the pier to the Samur. I am middle age, fat, and clumsey and had no trouble getting in or out.

From there you have the trip to Klein bonaire. You then take the raft to the beach. Those wanting the drift snorkel are then taken almost to the other end of the island and dropped into the water. This was the best snorkeling we have ever done. The drift took at least 50 minutes. When we got back to the beach we had to load right back on the raft to head back. It is not that we were slow, it took evedryone on the drift at least this long or longer. But a fantastic time!!!

The ship is beatiful and there were drinks, snacks on the way back.

I have looked for a similar trip where you are dropped off to drift but so far have only found the samur.

    Hi Jean and Joe!

We had a great time with you on this excursion :D Wish we were sailing with you again!

The drift snorkel was awesome and for those of you wondering what the Samur looks like here are a couple of pictures taken from our aft balcony on the Crown Princess. Enjoy!

  6. agabbymama, I guess that what makes these boards so great as we can all come here and express our opinions. The short walk through the rainforest was very nice as well as some of the historic sites. I just feel that those not making multiple trips to Alaska and considering the ages in the group - Skagway gets my vote.

For me Alaska is all about what is out of town and Skagway offers so many available options including the Yukon and Haines. Just my opinion though......

  7. Having been to both ports I can't say I would recommend Sitka over Skagway. The Raptor Center is nice but really not worth going to Sitka for and the Russian sites are just okay in my opinion (and I'm a history major). Skagway offers many excursions and independent touring options that should appeal to most travelers.

If I was planning for a group of people ages 6 - 67 I would pick a cruise line other than HAL. I sailed on the Oosterdam this year and was truly disappointed in the food, service and overall energy level on the ship. The itinerary from Seattle - with all of the cruising in the outside passage didn't compare with past cruises either...so pay attention to the entire itinerary. Glacier Bay should not be missed for any potential one time Alaska cruise. We saw no wildlife on the trip into Hubbard Glacier like you see going in and out of Glacier Bay and the surrounding area.

So, based on your choices I would go with the Pearl for the itinerary even though I have yet to sail on NCL.

    Alaska is truly awesome!!!
