Really..lol   That's in NC where I was able to cancel right through my confirmation email.  I'm just sharing my experience, of course you need to see if it can apply to you in your state.   Yes, they do charge now for travel.  I was trying to help with your plan B not suggest the cheapest option.

NJ sucks!   NC or SC are are targets for retirement and maybe here's another reason😄

Not to sound dismissive in any way, as I understand your concern. We have now completed 10 RCL cruises since restart, and have been tested multiple times.  RCL accepts any proctored test that issues a written confirmation that states a negative result within the two day window prior to boarding.  Their review is done in the embarkation queue and performed by their check-in agents.  There is no in-depth check or validation done - you are expected to have had it completed according to their requirements and as long as it's provided in written form, it is accepted as valid. We've checked in in Florida, Italy and the Netherlands - the process was the same - show the letter/report either printed or on your phone - and as long as the date, name and "NEGATIVE" is there, it's accepted.  No copies are submitted, retained or requested.

Understood and agreed... my concern was if I can't get the WRITTEN RESULTS because they defaulted on the appt.  That JJCRUISE and MYHaro and others on Youtube I assume are but one SM out there.

  3. Let me close this as I am feeling more like one-against-the-world a bit.

If a contract is formed, (and a booking is absolutely a contract) remedies, or lack thereof, for defaults by either party must by law be clearly defined and understood or provided to a requesting party in a timely and effective manner.

That's not me speaking.... by a Justice in the US Supreme Court.

... and I appreciate it.  Knowing my DW I probably will consider a PLAN B as a possible 'sunk cost' regardless but still wish I could get a straight answer from RCL.

Sounds like you are looking for an excuse to start a lawsuit

Any Attorney will tell you, if your planning a Lawsuit, you don't publicize it BEFORE you file it.

All I want is to know... what if?

I don't think you know how many lawsuits are pending out there with Cruise Companies and how long they take to resolve.  My simple $5k for the cruise and 1.5k supplements wouldn't even justify small claims!

A week out you can schedule tests at  Walgreens as a back up.  That's what we did.  Not sure if they have changed that or not.   When the first test went through fine we cancelled the other appointments.

Really, I was just told there were no cancellations from the NJ Walgreens... your charged regardless and the fee now for a TRAVEL precovid was one of the highest?

I'm confused about what you are asking here.  If you use emed (sold by/through RC), then your concern of "What happens then if your PLAN A (Online Proctor Service) does not meet their obligations" is moot.  RC sells the test, so by definition it WILL meet their obligations.

Read the fine print.... Yes emed is accepted, almost any Online Proctor service IS accepted by RCL.  BUT RCL does not accept an liability connected to emed, as if they default, RCL does NOT respond.

  8. I see some of you, veteran cruiser too, think I am paranoid or 'not trusting those around me' but you obviously do not have access to what 'legal actions' are going on across the country about situations of default by online Covid Test Proctors!

Many people have reported no problems but.... you do not hear about the many that do as they are instructed by their legal counsel NOT to post.

Again, at an absolute minimum, I do not understand why I can't get a qualified answer as to a set of fully defined variables.... try to test, try to find alternative within 48 hour window, couldn't, denied access to ship.... what happens?

If the 'qualified answer is you loose all your money then either I have to have a 'rock-solid' Plan B or Cancel now, as was suggested.

Cost of alternative is again a concern BUT not the main concern... probability of alternative IS.

The best plan B is what RCI recommends and sells - the eMed kit.

Plan C is the mobile lab in the parking lot in Bayonne.

Unfortunately, emed would not be able to respond within the less-than-48 window so either I buy it ahead of time (i.e. pay for two services and hope one comes thru) or hope the first one comes thru.

Again, just want to know from RCL what IF?

@Project-College, where are you seeing the 48 hour requirement?  I thought it only had to be done starting 2 days (not 48 hours) before the cruise.

On the RCL sight it said a Friday Sailing (8/5) the test could NOT be done prior to Wednesday.  My Online Proctored test is scheduled for the first available time on Wednesday 8am (wife and I) and Boys (2) at 8:30am.  If the service DEFAULTS.... that where my clock starts for PLAN B.

They do offer "limited" testing at the port, but given that they are testing all the unvaccinated kids, they may not have capacity, so I would not rely on that.  And I think it costs $100+.  I guess as a last-ditch option, that offers a small chance of getting you on the ship.

Thanks and that is what the tester told my friend who was at Bayonne.  Or more accurately they said, 'chance in hell of same day as we have too many kids'.   At this point, CVS didn't seem to have same day available and neither did walgreen... maybe I should ask my Doc if he would watch me take the Rapid test and givce me the proper docs (at least as Plan B)?

I don't believe the OP @Project-College is worried about a positive test.  I believe the issues is what if RCCL will not accept the chosen proctored test, i.e. you show up to board with a negative test, but they decline to accept that test because it lacks something the require (CLIA#, ambiguous working, too much hand-written info, etc.)

Close but not exactly.... You are right, I am not referencing a POSITIVE test but rather the inability of a customer to get a PROCTORED test within the less than 48 hours remaining before the cruise (as a default by the online Proctoring service would cause).

I talked to my TA and they said call RCL.  I just finished with a merry go round with RCL (three switches) where that said I had tyo go BACK to my TA to find out the financial remedies of such a situation (in other words, they could not confirm a refund/FCC/or SOL?

I may be incorrect but if you test positive they won’t let you board. That’s not the same as you cancelling.

Sorry if I did'nt present it correctly....

My concern had nothing to do with testing positive.  If I, or a member of my family, test POSITIVE I know, and understand, that I would not be allowed on board and refunds/FCC are addressed outside of CWC.

My question was, since recently there appears to have been a flurry of litigation having to do with 'defaults' by online Proctoring services... what happens if that service defaults and no other testing options are available within the less than 48 hour window, as at THAT POINT... you can't cancel anymore with the CWC Program?

  14. Cruise with Confidence & COVID Pre-travel Testing

Trying to figure something out…. Based on some random legal postings of pending legal actions

RCL MANDATES that you have a ‘Proctored Covid Test’ within 48 hours BEFORE Cruise.

‘Cruise with Confidence’ program MANDATES that you CANCEL BEFORE 48 hours BEFORE the Cruise in order to get Future Cruise Credit (NOT A REFUND).

What happens then if your PLAN A (Online Proctor Service) does not meet their obligations and no local options are available in the next ‘less than’ 48 hours?

At the point you find out there is a problem... you are already past the notification threshold for the ‘Cruise with Confidence’ program?

Always remember my dad calling me when I was 21.  He said you used our AT&T card to call us.  Don’t do it ever again.  This was back in the early 90s. My mom had given me the card and said only use it to call me (not friends), but call me whenever you want.  I never violated that rule.  My dad didn’t realize she had done that, but he didn’t think it appropriate since I was an adult.  He said you are a grown man now and if you want to call us, pay for it yourself.

Here is the funny part.   His year end bonuses way back then could’ve payed for 4 years at Stanford.  He billed me for the $18 in long distance charges from the prior month.  😂😂.  That was a lot of gas money back then and I was on a very tight budget and saving for graduate school.

As you can imagine I didn’t get a cruise for my graduation present or trips to Europe as I see a lot.  I think I got a briefcase and a note about how important it is to work hard.  Im sure not having the kids around as much must be hard.  Care to adopt an adult?   😂😂😂

    As the movie goes....NOPE!

Yes, but like I said, if you can get a good group of people on your roll call to use the app, their phones all act as "repeaters".  I played around with it at home and the range is much better than typical Bluetooth.  For example, my BT earbuds only work within about 35 feet.  I was able to get this to work inside the house, through walls and floors in over 50 feet.  I have not tried it on a ship, but I thought it might be worth something to someone.  I think some of these may also work with wifi, which could extend the range.

I am really surprised that Apple or Google has not come up with a built-in software like this.  They do use a "crowd sourced" type of network for Tiles and AirTags, so it's not much different.

Now there's a new ap I could make... Air Tag Talk!  Do u think Apple would be upset if use part of their name?
