I didn’t do the specialty restaurants, and didn’t experience any shortages in food options. They seemed fully staffed, as I never needed to wait for anything. However, it was obviously very newly staffed, as we heard a few crew members mentioning it was their first few days/week on board. Funny experience in one of the shops my husband asked about a particular item, and the cashier just waved his hand dismissively and said, “Day 5.” My husband said, “You expect this in stock on day 5?” And the guy was like, “No, it’s my day 5.” Oh, okay then, lol.

Best shows were Aqua 80 and Frozen in Time. Cats was, well, you’ve seen the other threads!

Just meaning the 10am check in. The last time we sailed, 4 years ago from there we checked in that early and got on the ship at 11:30. Still about 3 hours earlier. We also like to start our vacation as soon as we possibly can 🙂

In Biker19's defense... I was asking for ANY tips for getting thru Cape Liberty quick.

I wouldn't take that tip BECAUSE I, like u, want to get on board ASAP (the only reason I stayed up until 12:11am when check-ins opened!

...BUT he did offer some insight I had not even considered.

Again, I was hoping for any and ALL tips as those on this Board seem to be much more experienced than me... heck I sounded at first like I thought Cape Liberty was in NY (which I didn't but spoke wrong).

I'm just trying to get tips from Subject Matter Experts!

PS:  One tip I can offer to anyone flying in Newark... DO NOT pet a friends female German sheppard, just before you leave,  especially if they are in heat.  I did and was held by Airport security for over 4 hours (since I would NOT agree to a cavity search) until they effectively determined that their male German Sheppard Drug Sniffing Dog wasn't going crazy at me for drugs... the dog was just horny!  This happened right in front of my Boss, as we were going to France for our LVMH conference so be assured that listen closely to ALL tips and suggestions!

Tip #1.  Remember Cape Liberty is non in NY

Tip #2.  Walk faster....the faster you walk, the faster you make it.

Tip #3.  Have all you documents ready to check in

Tip #4.  When coming back, slow down, you already parked your car, it's not going anyplace, have coffee, and breakfast and relax for the morning

    Thks

You notice everyone says get there at 10:30? Guess what, a lot of folks, even with later check in times will be there as well. Anyone who has sailed out of Bayonne will tell that there’s virtually no line after 2PM. Now, if/when ships ever go back to a 3PM departure that  is a bit late, but till then, if you want to have a quick embarkation, go late when human nature got most of folks out do the way.

    Insightful!

Royal's MDR dining is generally very good to excellent.

However, the buffet can generate some awful stuff.   We tried the lasagna at the buffet once (terrible).  Also, some Greek Moussaka was equally terrible.

The specialty restaurants are inexpensive and worth the cost.

We are looking forward to trying the Specialties restaurants on Oasis on 8/5 BUT calling them 'inexpensive' would not be verbiage I would use at all!  Maybe if I will the megaball big one coming up!

It will be there once you’re on board. I just got off Oasis on Friday. I was able to see some entertainment at home the morning of, but the bulk of the events—including the big, reservable shows—you won’t see until you’re on board and connected to the ship’s wi-fi.

Bound4Bermuda.... u seem to be helping me on all my Threads...Thanks.

Some people noted a 'bug' in the ap but your saying that:  Don't worry, u'll see them and be able to reserve ONLY once you get aboard and connect the ap to the ships wifi'... correct?

I just went through Cape Liberty this past week. Going in was a madhouse! As was mentioned, there was one long line to get into the terminal, and they didn't seem to be checking the arrival times at all. (That being said, I was within my window, so perhaps once I got to the front I would have been turned away if I were early? Don't know.) However, it really didn't take THAT long to get through the because they had a ton of people working the check-in process.

Leaving was a breeze! The luggage was organized by numbers--and they really broke it down into small increments--unlike searching through a large room of luggage in years past or at other terminals. Then at the exit, they just scan your face, so we didn't have to show our passports at all. Be sure to pay for your parking ticket right outside the exit! They have people there to help take your ticket and credit card into the payment kiosk to keep people from fumbling around and wasting time. Leaving the lot, people who missed paying at the kiosk were funneled into a separate line, so those who payed at the kiosk zoomed right out.

Thanks for the details... If I might ask, what check-in did u have?  We have the first so we thought maybe the 'going in', as u phrase it, might nor be as bad????  Thoughts?

Try to arrive before 10:30AM when the larger crowds start showing up. Get in line and drop off your luggage with the porters. Then see if there allowing you to park your vehicle in the parking garage next to the terminal or do you have to park further away. On June 9th when I cruised on the Adventure Of The Seas the only vehicles allowed in the garage were handicapped passengers. We parked at one of the abandoned warehouse lots that is a short ten minute walk back to the terminal. After we arrived at the terminal we got on the long line. The entire process took approximately one hour from dropping off luggage to finishing the entire check in process. Having an earlier check in time didn’t make a difference and all passengers were on the same long line.

Thanks.... I thought the earlier the check-in the better the process?

  9. A question to Veteran Cruisers who have recently sailed thru Cape Liberty.....

What are the best tips to make the process easy and quick?

I have already been 'counseled' to arrive close to the check-in time but what else makes the process more effective/quick.

The last time I went out of NY.... when we returned back I had a Porter take our bags thru customs and we were done really fast!!!

We will be driving to Port for 8/5 sailing.
