Hi Woodyren,

Just wanted to pick your brains on airfares. We are going to China next April Hong Kong - Shanghai. Didn't want to purchase airfares too early as we have recently been caught out on a Black Sea cruise. How would you go about it? I believe Shanghai is not the easiest place to get in and out from.

I am sure you will be fine and the new itinerary is not too bad. still it would have been disappointing to miss the main ports. Make the most of it and enjoy.:D

Thanks Mike. I think a lesson has been learned not to book air flights too early or pay more for the flexible ones. But hindsight is a wonderful thing😃. The airfare sale was too good to pass up.

Hi MicCanberra they haven't only dropped Odessa it's Sevastopol and Yalta too so the whole Crimea region making a Black Sea cruise at the moment a waste of money as these are the three main ports on this itinerary:( We just flipped out of our Black Sea cruise till 2016 hoping things will settle by then.

 

No there isn't any insurer who will cover for civil unrest or riots unfortunately.

Thanks everybody just wanted to make sure. Also your are right about the Black sea cruise Celebrity have now changed the itinerary ( they took awhile to do it). New ports are Sinop, Varna, Costanza & Trabzon. We are doing a Mediterranean before this one so a B2B. So that made it a more difficult decision to cancel or not. But then we found out we would lose too much money trying to cancel our airfares. So now we are still doing both cruises and hoping the Black sea portion will be OK.

Zurich and QBE tend to be the Credit Card travel insurance backers. I have had no issues with any of our claims so far.:D

We were on the Solstice with you last Oct.

Just wanted to add we have a St George Platinum card for insurance purposes. I tried to cancel airfares for my up coming Black Sea cruise (Sept) because of Mr Putin. But was declined because the ins policy Zurich does not cover civil unrest / terrorism. Not sure than any insurance company does. I would be interested if anyone knows of one.

Thanks for clarifying. Just curious, while Celebrity cannot modify your booking, have you contacted Captains Club for confirmation ? That would be my next step. I also trying to see what I can find out. If I hear anything I will post again. Thanks !

Hi Andy, I went to Captains Club lady there was very helpful in explaining. I am allowed 2 promo but as in I can keep the OBC + which ever promo I decide. So I just need to decide which Promo works for us.

I have a US address and spend time in both countries. I am booked with a US TA. Therefore the same rules should apply as to a US resident.

I think the member received inaccurate information. I asked Celebrity about this yesterday, and was told the Giving Thanks offer is not combinable, and it also states this in the terms and conditions.

 

About the only way I can see anything potentially being combinable, is if you've booked onboard *recently*, under the NEW passages program. In that case, I believe you may be allowed to combine with 1 other offer.

Yes I am a bit confused. I booked 4 cruises while on board the Solstice disembarked 23 Oct 13. At the time of booking I am sure the future cruise lady said that there was no Promo restrictions. Meaning I could transfer to something else and still receive the promo. The same with price drops and I am assuming with this new give thanks promo. But when I called TA they said Celebrity would not combine promo, it was either one or the other. I tried ringing Celebrity and they would not talk to me as I have recently transferred the booking to my TA.

Do you have more information on "booked onboard *recently*, under the NEW passages program"
