  1. Interesting NPR article. Hope you are all recovered by now.... https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2022/07/22/1112894925/coronavirus-faq-i-got-it-on-a-family-vacay-can-my-relatives-stay-relatively-safe
  2. it might depend if you are in the same cabin or not. if you are in the same cabin, just have HAL link your booking numbers.we have done that and didnt even need to change luggage tags, which stay on your bags to disembark at the end of your final sailing. have a great trip. back to backs are wonderful.
  3. if you have fixed dining, you can tell your server you wish to have a drink order before your meal order so that they get there at the same time. if you like wine, also tell them you want the cheese and cracker plate on the table for when you sit down to go with your wine. they will do this every night and will learn your preferences. they are great that way. As others said, you can also take your wine to dinner too. everyone is there to help you and make your journey a great one. we hope your journey is a great one as well.
  4. how sweet and how fun! I so want to renew on board. will have to look in to that. we just got back from a tahiti trip three months ago, we were blown away!
  5. what a great story. yes, an anniversary makes for a magical time for sure. Your 55th is coming up next year. any plans?
  6. so happy you had and have the support and love of each other and had support when little was found during that time. so happy for you both! congratulations once again!
  7. Hi , no we live near Tuolumne Meadows.. I wish we are on that cruise just to meet some fellow locals. Not many people know Tuolumne or can even pronounce it LOL. The Volendam has the thermal suite that we love, and the nicest old fashioned women's bathroom off the MDR. Enjoy your cruise. We sail to Alaska in September. We did go to French Polynesia and Mexico three months ago, and isn't it great to be cruising again? Safe travels, and may we sail together one day.
  8. Happy Anniversary! Let your travel agent know and assign a wedding anniversary date to your itinerary and you will likely get an anniversary note from the Captain. It is a special keepsake.
  9. Happy Anniversary! we will be celebrating 30 yrs in Alaska in a couple of months!
  10. well, I got crackers on my cruise three months ago.... just sayin'
  11. Well. you can order the cheese plate in the MDR. It comes with a selection of cheeses and crackers. You can request additional crackers. I love that with my wine, and always order it before dinner, but honestly, crackers and cheese are not a game changer for me. I have enough options on board, and am not there for the food necessarily.

  13. got it. We have sailed the Noordam, and from what we recall, as on several ships of this class, the free sauna on the Noordam is off to the side of the entrance to the greenhouse spa, before the beauty shop. That space is free, and I hope you enjoy it. You can go from the pool to the sauna quite easily from that location. If you can possibly afford it, we do recommend the greenhouse spa. I am not sure how long your voyage it, but it is worth it in my opinion.
  14. Well, not sure which ship you reference, but from my experience...the free sauna is not within the greenhouse spa. The free sauna, if it is still on your ship, is on a side corridor with a bathroom and not part of the spa at all as the spa is for people with the spa package or spa day purchase or treatments.
  15. here is the link with all of that info : looks like $60-$100 https://docgo.com/cruiseguests/
  16. On most islands in the South Pacific the beaches are on the atolls that surround the island are not "walkable" to, as towns are more of a small size (the ship has more passengers than the island population) and along very busy roads. You can get out and walk, though. We did excursions on most islands, but not all islands have enough of a population to provide excursions. Go snorkeling if you can. Highly recommend it.
  17. nope, just have HAL or your travel agency link your back to back bookings and you will be fine. call the medical clinic before you start your second voyage and they will make sure you are tested prior to the new voyage, if it is still required. That is what we did.
  18. I would contact HAL also, worth a shot. But on the flip side I have found things in our stateroom on top of the safe, things like formal night pics etc. I always turn them in. On our last sailing our tablemates found items under the bed and turned them in. It is hard to keep track of everything, especially on a longer sailing, and even harder to determine what was found or kept by just about anyone. I just try to chalk it up to experience. I hope you find it. I usually loose the small stuff too and try to zip that stuff away. If I had a nickel for every little zip lock bag with stuff in it I cant find, even at home....
  19. https://www.cdc.gov/parasites/bedbugs/faqs.html Um, I could be way off base, but this kind of reminds me of people who say they got sick the first day of the cruise and blame HAL. Please give HAL another chance. Do not base it on this one time. They try so hard. Everyone has a part in the play. Accountability goes a long way in this life. Just saying I am the first to say 'it was probably me..'
  20. OP's book from 2019. https://www.press.uillinois.edu/books/?id=p084508
  21. https://www.press.uillinois.edu/books/?id=p084508 that is cool! maybe he can add all this information to his next book..
  22. @HenryKisor Thank you for rounding out the picture. I strongly encourage you to use this link which gives you all the information you need. I would not wait until the night before. Now you are making me anxious for you and wishing I could help you more. Good luck with your trip and I hope things work out with your service animal. Submit the form in the blue link below so that things go smoothly for you and good luck! It looks like is all electronic and should be seamless! https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/accessibility.html The Importance of Planning AheadHolland America Line does not discriminate against individuals on the basis of disability. We seek, to the extent feasible, to accommodate guests with disabilities. However, some needs require adequate time to prepare for a guest's arrival. It is recommended that guests make every effort to contact our Guest Accessibility Department and to submit a Special Requirements Information (SRI) Form well in advance of the departure of their cruise and/or cruisetour.
  23. There is a difference between being a service dog handler and a person who needs a service animal, but if you are the latter, you will be taken care of for sure as all of that is arranged well before boarding from what I have seen. Try the know before you go on HAL, or call HAL. Just like taking an animal on a plane, you need to arrange things.
  24. We received our masking notification this morning. It was sent @ 11:30pm last night for our Sept. sailing out of Vancouver. We have sailed twice this year with HAL. This upcoming trip being our third voyage. We remained healthy due to the mask policy. I would be more alarmed if a mask policy were not in effect. I will be very happy to comply. HAL provides very good masks to use. p.s. And on these two sailings, ironically enough, our tablemates on both cruises got Covid from not masking while ashore, and had to be quarantined. We were fine as we masked as often as we could except while in our stateroom or while at dinner. Covid is neither new nor over.
