  1. Hi Momma bear,

Could you kindly advise car hire company and hotel ?

We are thinking of Hilton hotel at Galveston Island. I understand that Enterprise is the only car hire office on the island.

Thought to take RC transfer back to airport as flight is 15.05 and being international need to be there by noon, so no time to start again with car rental

    Many thanks.

  2. I have read several posts on this but am unable to locate them recently.

We would like to fly into IAH from UK four or five days prior to cruise on on Liberty of Seas. Ideally we 'd like to pick up a hire car, drive to Galveston spend the time staying in a Galveston hotel and exploring local area.

We then need to return rental car..I understand the only company on the island is Enterprise. They seem to be charging huge one way drop off fees. I remember reading about the possibility of dropping off at Texas City , then using taxi/ shuttle to return to Galveston....hotel shuttle to ship.

Anyone with experience of this they are able to share please ? Distance ? Taxi fare.??

    Thank you for your help.

  3. If you want Europe or med would think from end feb 2015. We booked our June cruise 2015 this march14 months out. However USA and world segments already on website....I think!

    Thanks for the reply.

Am actually looking for Singapore to Freemantle, similar to cruise on Dawn Princess sailing 6th Aug., 2015 but in 2016

  4. This is for information only.

We have just returned from cruise out of Galveston. Used RCCL transfers from IAH, even though we flew in a day early (stayed at Marriott IAH- bought wine in their gift shop $18). Return to IAH after 3 night stopover at Hilton in Galveston was by Limousine- arranged by RCCL.

    All very good service.

However, during our time in Galveston we hired a car from Enterprise and they informed us that they will be trialling having their office open on Sundays (10am-2pm) for the summer season- may be useful to other travellers to know this.:)

  5. Could you tell me any other dates available pls

You can arrange your own flights to suit and jump on any cruise ship which does a transatlantic...not a package as such but many UK travel agents will build it to suit your needs.

Look at your favourite cruise lines, pop 'transatlantic cruises' into the search and you will see dates for crossings....then look at airlines....

Take it to a travel agent who can book as a package with deferred dates or book separately for yourself.

  6. Just starting to think of packing for our Navigator of Seas cruise on April 13th. The ports are Falmouth, Grand Cayman and Cozumel.

Please can anyone who is on board right now, or who lives in the Galveston area give us any idea of local weather conditions ?

Not sure whether we would need to bring jackets or kagools ...we are flying from UK so are thinking of thin jackets...helpful suggestions please.

    Many thanks

  7. High temps are usually mid 70s to mid 80s. Thunderstorms are probable, but the good thing is that part of Texas is not in tornado alley. It is about 55 miles from George Bush ( not a big fan) International airport to Galveston port . We are looking forward to sailing out of Southhampton on your new assigned RCL ship. I have heard Southhampton is an easier trip from London then Harwich.

Yes, London to Southampton is quite an easy trip. I believe coaches direct to port are available. We travel from Wales which doesn't need to go through London so sorry can't be more specific. Coaches to Southampton port are with a company called Evesway....believe they feed the port from most parts of UK.

  8. Howdy, Be sure to check cruise critic to keep current on Galveston port conditions. We have had a little problem with fog and a small oil spill this year. Also enjoy some fine BBQ in Galveston and have a great time.

Thank you...we will enjoy Galveston. Saw the excitement caused by Navigator's delayed departure last week. Hope all will be well... And without fog by the time we get there. Any idea of the average April temperature please ?

  9. The airline that matters for this is the actual airline you're flying on. So, if it's an AA plane, it's their allowance that applies; if it's a BA plane, then their allowance applies. The same applies for check-in.

Thank you...I was hoping someone might say that. We'll need larger carry ons for all the shoes I'll have to force myself to take!!

  10. We are flying LHR to IAH to catch Navigator of Seas next week. Flights booked through RCCL with American Airlines, but code share British Airways. Very confused whether we can have BA carry on allowance or AA 's which is quite a lot smaller (dimension wise)

Anyone who has been in similar situation, please be kind enough to share your experience.

Please note I do not wish to be flamed for wanting a larger allowance !!!!!!!!!!!
