I’ve been avidly reading all the comments about knee and hip replacements. Andy’s had problems with his right knee and hip for a few years, to the point that he walks with a noticeable gimp and has great difficulty putting on a sock and tying a shoe on the right foot. His primary told him it’s likely arthritis and referred him to ortho, which of course he’s ignored.  He finally went Thursday (nagging works!) and was told he has severe arthritis in his hip and mild arthritis in the knee. His knee pain is most likely a result of the hip issues. So hip replacement scheduled for Nov 5th. He was given a shot of cortisone with the disclaimer he might only see 10-30% improvement, he says the 10% is about right.  I think he put it off out of fear of the surgery, but so many people have told him hip replacement isn’t bad these days, much easier than the knee.
    Anyone here had this done?

I had my hip done in 2017 and don’t regret it at all. I was walking later that day. If my other hip were to start hurting, I wouldn’t hesitate for a minute to have the surgery again.

That's awesome!  LBI is a wonderful place....rough retirement plans w/ the wife now are to have two smaller places and snowbird....LBI for summers, Orlando for proximity to family / disney / cruises in the winter!

    Sounds like a great plan.

How long have they lived there? DH used to live there before college in the ‘70’s - early ‘80’s.

My SIL lives in Harvey Cedars and used to have a house in Beach Haven. My DH and his family lived in Love Ladies before he went off to college.

True. But they advise you to wait. At least with hips. Because they sometimes don't last forever. But my wonderful surgeon, mentioned quality of life (which was true). He said to do them and worry about a possible revision in the future.

I would think that as much pain as Graham sounds to be in it wouldn’t be worth waiting. When I found out what my pain was from I didn’t want to wait and had it done quickly.

Yes I would hold off as long as you can before getting knee replacement surgery but it may be the best thing to do if you are in constant pain like I was. You might look into stem cell transplants as well as I discussed earlier...

I would think that the sooner aka younger the better, before any more health issues pop up. Not saying any more will, but that’s my thought about the sooner the better.

We book gty. Often it's the difference in going or not.  We are very agreeable with most things. Good room or bad. I should be knocking on wood.  I have had bad luck while picking my room myself and good luck letting them do it.  Maybe you get a bad room and get fcc out of it.  Maybe you only loose if you end up spending more for your room plus royal up compared to what it would have been if you booked the room straight away.

I was referring to a room nightmare.  Like toilet overflowing, ac not working or various of other items.  Anything standard room selection issues like noise, position on the boat, obstructed would be fair game.

You were talking about getting a bad room when booking a gty. Then you mention getting a fcc because of getting a bad room aka location. Nothing was even being talked about getting a room that has issues that need to be fixed like toilet overflowing, ac not working, etc. That's not what this thread was about so it sounded like you thought you or others should get a fcc because of the room. If people go the gty route to save money then they need to accept the results or pick their room. If they can't afford to do that, then maybe a vacation that they can afford should be looked into.

  8. Loved all the flowers at Pike’s Place and took some with us in 2018 on the Explorer. Our cabin attendant gave us a champagne bucket for ours. It was one of the large clear acrylic ones with the little handles on the side. We bought a bunch of flowers and needed a large “vase”.

Monday night I developed a pain in my abdomen…Tuesday it got worse…when it hadn’t gotten better Wednesday morning I called my PA’s office…no available appointments this week…but they have a walk-in clinic…no appointments necessary.  So off I went there.  I was really impressed!!  Very nice people…I was seen in about 29 minutes…provider wanted a CT scan done…walked next door to their lab and in ten minutes I was having the scan.

The staff were all so very nice!!  I grew up with my father being the Director of The Emory Clinic, VP of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center and head of the cardio thoracic department…all surgeons who thought they were gods…. To meet medical professionals who treat you like a friend was so nice especially when you’re scared and in pain.

I got the lab results by the time I got home.  Of course I had no idea what it meant…🤭  But then a text that an antibiotic had been sent to my pharmacy.  So now I’m on the mend and it’s great to know a walk-in no appointment needed option is available!

The girls have been taking turns being furry heating pads.  Their warmth and purring is very soothing!!

That must have been very scary. Glad to hear you are doing better.

Agreed anything anyone can do to avoid knee replacement is good. While I don’t regret getting mine replaced it’s a hard surgery and a long rehab. You have to ready for a new normal. That being said I now walk 50 minutes a day without any knee pain. Before I couldn’t even walk. From the car to the store without pain and limping.

Glad to hear you are doing much better. I didn’t realize it had gotten that bad before you had surgery.

    Good morning.

It is sunny but cool 39°C here in North East England.

Nothing planned for today as my knee and hip arthritis is painful.

The lawn people are coming out to put weed and feed/fertilizer on our back and front lawns today.

I hope everyone is safe and in good health and y'all have a good day.

My heart medication prevents me taking anti inflammatory medication like Ibuprofen which is the main arthritis treatment.

I’m sorry to hear about your hip and knee pain. Is surgery your only option to help with the pain?

All I can say it is to clear the margins which is what you want to happen.  You should have  seen  the incision and the large number of stitches I got for a tiny red dot on the side of my face.  My colleagues were surprised I needed to take 2 weeks off work, so I sent them a photo of all the stitches…..Just an fyi - I religiously rubbed in the cream recommended by the surgeon  post op for quite so time.  It worked a treat.  All I can see now  is a area of my skin on the side of my face that is paler than the rest of my face.  No-one else would notice it

Do you remember the name of the cream?

Thank you ALL for the well wishes.

I'm thoroughly moved by some many of you who posted.

The happy reunion. From 5C to 34C in one day....

DS2 & Co. are based at our in-laws (the parents of our DIL). We'll get the grands for a couple of days and nights.

They're here until Saturday, 4th of May.

DH didn't cook much, apart from chopped liver, since until the last moment we didn't know what the "situation" will be and if they'll make it here.

He'll start tomorrow on the chicken soup and, more important, on the "gefilte fish". There will be also a new "edition" of chopped liver for the second "seder" on Sunday night.

So nice to see you with your family again. How is the family settling in in Amsterdam?

10 days of "nail biting" and emotional roller coaster ended today.

After the last week Iranian attack upon Israel, most of the airlines cancelled, again, their flights.

DS2 was supposed to arrive for the Passover holiday Saturday, the 20th. Rental car with 48 hours free cancellation.

Checking with the airline early Thursday (18th) -- the flight is a "go".

Friday morning "we" retaliate (who thought to attack Iran a couple of days before the Passover, with the risk of returning everyone of us to the shelters again??? no answer from "above").....

In no time at all, DS2's flight was cancelled. The airline agreed to reroute them via Paris. He counts himself lucky... Friends of his, who already checked their bags Friday morning, were rerouted via.... Abu Dhabi, spending the night flying East in order to get West.

BTW, the rental were very understanding and waived the cancellation fee.

Finally, we were reunited with our grands late this afternoon. What a huge relief and joy !!

So happy you will be able to spend time with your grands.

I’m assuming you aren’t affiliated with Royal? Do you do this for other cruise lines also such as MSC and Celebrity?

Let me start by saying we've been on approximately 35 cruises. Most of them have been Azamara,NCL,Royal Caribbean, Celebrity with one MSC included. The food quality and selection on RCL borders on par with MSC which is pretty bad. The prime rib was fatty and as tough as shoe leather. The NY strip steak that the gentleman next to us looked like a door stop and he stated it was uneditable. There is no comparison to NCL whatsoever. We tried Chops hoping for a better steak experience but it was just a bit better. Definitely not with the 190 up charge. In the future it will be NCL,Azamara and Oceania only.Bye Bye RCL !

We tried Virgin Voyages last month for the first time and their food was really good. Check them out.

Not necessarily.  We flew first class on United to TX and back last fall.  The food we had was very good. Breakfast on the way down and lunch on the way back.

This can also vary by flight. We flew  home in first on United last Sept and the meat was cold and fatty. I don’t even remember what it was called, just that it was bad and I wouldn’t eat it. That right there says a lot. 😁

Why would you think someone deserves a fcc? They/you were willing to take a gamble on a gty in order to save money. Either accept what is given (or change accordingly to their rules) or don’t go the gty route. Expecting a fcc is ridiculous. 🙄

Yes! Talk about delusional and entitled. And his “caretaker” brother didn’t help the situation. I knew as soon as I heard “protein shake” it was going downhill. And I’m so glad I wasn’t on the plane with them with him in a diaper.

Thanks, I just know I’m about to go down a rabbit hole. 😆
