  1. Tomorrow, Friday, I'm driving to Charleston to start a cruise on Saturday. I did last minute shopping and laundry, got my nails done and finished packing. It's only 4:30 in the afternoon. What can I do until bedtime? Help! What are you other about-to-go-on-a-cruise people doing? I can't do anything constructive. All I can do is think about cruising!!!!! 

  2. I haven't been slacking, at least not every day. I just haven't been recording. According to my walk logger app I've walked 230 miles since I last posted. Add that to the 51 I already posted takes me to a grand total of 281 mi. - just a little more than 1/2 way. And my cruise is in 6 days. Hmmm. Maybe I'll hitchhike the rest of the way to port! I better pack light. Oh, can't do that - it's a 12 day cruise. OR - I can take credit for walking a good distance to port when they cancelled on me because of a hurricane.

     

    OK pacruise, keep up the good work and enjoy your cruise, no matter how you get to port!😊

    dress up like I never do in real life - and getting the professional photos to show that it really happened

    suspend my hold on reality so I can believe  that I am the most important person at any given moment as the crew has been trained to make me think - just love love love the service and the crew

  4. When I cruise little things make me deliriously happy. The attention of the room steward. The gracious service in the dining room. Getting dressed up so the photographers can make me look pretty. Having a few drinks with no worries about transportation home. Going to a production show, then a comedy show, then the casino, then a midnight snack - maybe not going back to the cabin until 1 or 2 a.m. Not having a care in the world. For me cruising is like having a fairy tale life for a week or so. But family members just don't share that feeling. They like cruising, but in a different way. And it puts a damper on my enjoyment. Our children are grown. We can cruise now in the off-season without them. I retired. My husband did not. We went on two cruises. I told him I wanted to go on a solo cruise. He thinks it's a waste of money - yeah, he's sort of right. We got beyond that. I went on a solo last month.

    I liked having the cabin to myself, having a shower without scheduling it, not feeling bad about turning lights on when I came in late or got up early.

     

    I went on an excursion that my husband wouldn't have liked. Might have done the same excursion with him, but then knowing it's not his thing would have dampened my enjoyment.

     

    I got dressed up for dinner every night, make-up, jewelry, the whole thing - and enjoyed that so much more than when my husband is there and just can't be bothered.

     

    I got lost in a book on the serenity deck and didn't worry that maybe my husband wasn't finding something fun to do.

     

    Spent time exercising before breakfast and didn't hurry to finish up, worried that my husband was getting hungry waiting for me.

     

    Cruising solo was wonderful. There was no awkwardness, no loneliness. Like SMSACE6 I am not out-going; am completely comfortable doing things by myself and will interact with others when the mood strikes or circumstances require it. Also I recharge on me-time. If this is you and your significant other understands this, then solo cruising is for you.

  5. I just talk to the maitre d' and then our head sever and request the non-vegetarianindian dishes each night.

    Bobbylah - can you tell me what kind of meat you've gotten with your non-vegetarian Indian dishes? We ordered it one time (on the Pride I think) and never again. We couldn't for the life of us tell what the meat was - it was something chopped up and rolled into kind of a patty. We asked our server and he didn't know, we asked him to find out and he never got back to us. We've always enjoyed the vegetarian Indian offering. I'm tempted to give the non-vegetarian another try.

  6. DAY 1

     

    After a bit of thought last night, I have set my Target Goal of Miles at 900 before the cruise (180 days). That is an average of 5 miles per day and as long as I make that goal I won't be disappointed. The total was derrived from the complex formula of multiplying the basic distance from my house to the ship by 3. I have also developed a Stretch Goal of 1000 miles. Why? Because it just sounds better. That is an average of 5.55 miles per day, and based on Adams post of what a dedicated marathon runner can average in a week, this seems highly acheivable.

     

    With that said, here are today's totals:

     

    Day 1: 6.0 miles, 0 incline, 75 minutes and 54 seconds, 634 calories burned, one blister forming on left foot. This was about half running and and a fast walk for the other half (back and forth).:)

     

    OVERALL TOTALS

    Cruise Date: 8/27/2006

    Miles Logged: 6.0

    Miles to Go: 994.0

  7. I went on a cruise. I got addicted to cruising. Not that I cruise that often, but when not cruising, scheming how to schedule one or fantasizing about the one I did manage to book. Got back from my first solo cruise two weeks ago. New addiction. Will go on my next solo cruise in less than 6 weeks.

  8. I'm back! Reviving on of my favorite threads. So much to like about this thread. It's fun for me. It motivates me, and I'm pretty sure that when others see it, it inspires and motivates them as well.

     

    I'm going on a cruise in 41 days. From my home to the cruise port is 530 miles. I haven't been biking so I can only walk to my cruise. 530 divided by 41 equals almost 13. Yikes. That means I have to walk almost 13 miles a day. I won't say it won't happen. I will give it my level best!!

  9. OP - Thanks for this thread. Congratulations. You are awesome and awe-inspiring for your hard work. Some of what worked for you also worked for me, so I just want to highlight those things - they may be universal. COOK and MAKING RULES THAT YOU CAN LIVE WITH.

     

    I struggled with my weight for decades and for a few years it's been pretty stable at a weight I like. But still when I'm looking forward to a cruise I like to hang around this forum. It's empowering and validating. I picked up on your joke that you diet and cruise. For me, there is a real connection between dieting and cruising, and that connection is motivation. I took a cruise (solo) a couple of weeks ago and stopped for a photo every time one of the photographers asked. One of the fun things I did on this cruise was to search through the photo display every day to find the previous days shots of me. This got me to thinking, remembering, how much I hated to have my picture taken when my weight was up. Loved ones would have the camera out, seeing only me, the family member, the friend, who they valued. In my mind's eye I was only this blob who would ruin the picture. So happily seeing pictures of myself is a real treat on a cruise. I used to hate shopping. I hated trying on clothes that don't fit, that were so very unattractive. I still don't much enjoy shopping, but when I do need a new item of clothing, there is no dread. Things fit. I buy them. I look forward to wearing them. So if at home I still hang around in jeans and t-shirts, it's fun to be on a cruise wearing anything but jeans and t-shirts - and then to see me in my nice clothes in a professional photo.

     

    So happy cruising to you, 2breeze. You have just over 2 weeks to wait! Woo hoo! Enjoy the food. You know it's an indulgence you deserve. And real life awaits at the end of the cruise anyway.
