  1. I was afraid that our only option would be to upgrade. We don't really want to since we got lucky with an L-shaped room with a slightly longer balcony in the lower category.

    Thanks for the replies, everyone!

The balconies on L shaped rooms, are 75 sq ft....more than twice a regular balcony which is 35 sq ft. If you like,to spend time on your balcony that's a huge difference. Enjoy your cruise!

  2. Have been on the Magic for three days. First day we waited over an hour for a table. Second day we waited 90 mins for a table. We asked at the podium how we could get a table at 7pm and were told to show up at 5.45pm and we might get one.

Staff are working hard but they need more to meet the crowds demands.

Wine glasses are dirty we have to ask for cutlery and butter for the bread as well as side plates. Crumbs left on the chairs no table cloths the first night.

Lines in the buffet are out the door waited in line 20 mins for breakfast.

I think this will be my last carnival cruise unless things pick up the rest of the week really wishing I had picked another cruise line.

Of the 28 cruises I have completed this has to be the worst. So sad as I have always been a champion of Carnival when people knock it as being sub standard but this cruise really is poor except for Conrad our stateroom attendant who is great

I have done any time dining 6 times on Triumph and Freedom with no waits more than 15 minutes. I have it on my 3 upcoming Liberty cruises expect the same.

However I also have it on my upcoming Breeze cruise and fear it will be more like what you are experiencing. ...too many people. Hoping for the best.

  3. I have been told things I knew to be factually untrue on many occasions in a variety of situations (but only once in many years/sailings with Carnival).

In the service industry, it's due to one of two things:

    1. Ignorance on the part of the person stating the untruth (likely due to poor training or inexperience).

    2. A tactic used to, on the one hand, patronize the guest into thinking they did something wrong while, on the other hand, seeming like the "good guy" by letting you have something you were entitled to anyway.

    This!

  4. I am a southerner as is my husband and we found the fried oysters in the Fish n Chips on Freedom to be fantastic. We are from Louisiana...and know good seafood.

But, each cook is different. Try them for yourself and see!

Had them on my 2 Freedom cruises last year. They are fantastic. ...my embarkation day lunch. Going on the Liberty on Thursday and stopping by the deli first to get a roll with lettuce and tomatoes then heading up to Fish and Chips for fried oysters.....making me a oyster po' boy.....yummy

  5. There have also been reports if you have cheers they will not allow you to purchase bottles of alcohol from the fun shop to have in your room. I have not heard if this is still the case but it could be you could not even purchase to your room if you wanted to.

I have had Cheers on my last 7 cruises. I have always been allowed to purchase a bucket of beer and shots in souvenir glasses and the Martini tasting. Just because you have Cheers doesn't mean you can't partake in these it just means they are not included in the Cheers program so you pay for them. And none of those drinks are counted towards the 15. As far as buying rounds it is up to you to decide whether yours is included in your Cheers program or not. Ordering through room service. ..well I have never done it so I don't know.

  6. I have cruised solo 6 times. My first solo I had traditional late seating , had a table of other solo cruisers. It was ok. I have since chosen atd and prefer that option. I can eat by myself or if I want can eat with new friends who have atd.

  7. I agree with the OP, we much prefer the fantasy class ships. I'm sure this is the reason this ships are still around, being retrofitted and are the backbone of Carnival.

Given we are in our early 50's we prefer the smaller walkable ships that allow us to avoid having to use elevators, meet people over and over again and connect with the ocean.

I totally agree. The biggest ships I've sailed on have been the Conquest class. 3 out of 13 Carnival cruises. I have 4 more booked through January 2017. 3 on Liberty and 1 on the Breeze. Looking forward to Liberty (sailed Conquest and Freedom ) while excited about my Breeze cruise I am a little apprehensive about the, size and crowds. All those bells and whistles are things I don't care about on land or cruises.

  8. Her cancelling now a few weeks before the cruise will only get her port charges and fees refunded. Same as a no show. But her cancelling screws you since you have to pay double fare. Get together and call Carnival on a speaker phone it will be explained to both and maybe she will understand and not cancel. Then go solo and have the time of your life. I love cruising solo. I'm on a 4 day Liberty June 23rd, my 7th solo cruise in 2 1/2 years. 3 more booked thru January 2017 all solo.

  9. Fttf will also get you priority line at guest services. ...suite guests do not have that perk. If you ever need to go to guest services that is a huge perk especially on the last 2 days of a cruise when the regular line can be 20+ deep. That alone is worth $60 to me.

  10. Hobby is farther south which can be 30-45 minutes closer depending on what time of day you fly in. We fly in and out of Hobby mainly and it's a very easy airport to navigate. You should have no problem with flying there if you usually fly Southwest.

If you plan on staying in Houston a night and want to check the city out, you could fly into IAH and stay in the downtown area since downtown is between the airport and Galveston. With Hobby you would be backtracking.

Still easier to get to downtown Houston from Hobby than IAH.

  11. If you can fly into Hobby do so IAH is considerably further away from Galveston about an hour more with good traffic conditions and there are never good traffic conditions . I live in Webster Tx which is 30 minutes to Galveston and travel all of Houston for work...believe me I'm not guessing or looking at a map or did it once for a cruise 3 years ago ....I live this everday...lol

  12. But it wasn't important enough to her to be reunited with her husband and family that she gave the re-boarding time issue due diligence. That is, it wasn't important enough until she was left behind.

Exactly. This is why I think "being late" is her normal behavior. Her family and friends accept it and she doesn't have to pay the consequences for her selfish behavior. ...until now.

  13. Before Carnival switched to days and it how was how many cruises....my husband had 9 cruises under his belt and we already had his 10th scheduled for March 2013...the cutoff for the change from number to days was Dec 2013. Carnival did not bridge him. Sucked but it is what it is. He will finally be Platinum with days on our next cruise. (Hope that made sense) .

When they changed the policy I was,at 8 cruises. I had 3 others, booked on Royal and Norwegian so didn't have thd time,or desire,to cram 2 more before the,end of 2013 do I could be,"grandfathered " into platinum. I'll get there in January 2017 after 13,yrs and 16 cruises with carnival.

  14. I'm sorry, with my brother or bil on board, I'm going looking for my wife - hoping we can make it back, but if we didn't I'm sure their biggest concern on their side would be who gets to move from the inside to the balcony room.

And then DW I would have a or so day to kill in Nassau, with me having come to her rescue and her feeling uncharacteristically repentant...

    Gotcha. ..lol
