  1. We have booked Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo in Sept. for 3 nights precruise. Our children stayed there on their honeymoon last year and loved it. It is a small boutique hotel, it has a courtyard and dining area for breakfast. It is off the beaten path a little in a neighborhood, but very close to a vaporetto stop. The owners are awesome--very helpful.

We found the cost to be reasonable--I believe it was around 180 E per night.

I might add---be careful to ask for an explanation of the bed sizes. They are different in Europe. We nearly got a french double, which is pretty small, I believe a little larger than a twin bed in US.

  2. When they booked they were originally looking at a balcony but it was not much more expensive to book a JS.

Correct. I was just confused at the "upsell" meaning. I work in retail and it means something different to me.

We have never been offered to upgrade a room close to sailing. Our folks do it all the time--but we are gold and they are diamond +.:D

  3. I read on another thread that if you are sailing in a junior suite under an "upsell"

you do not get double points.

We are sailing on the Splendour in a few months, we have booked a junior suite. When we booked this trip over a year ago, it was mentioned to us that for a few hundred dollars we could upgrade to a suite. Because this is a dream trip for us we went for it. Does this mean it was an upsell?

    Thanks

    Deb

  4. Wow, so sorry to read of this change. We sailed on the Oasis 2 times before her dry-doc. These were our first and second cruises ever. We are not disco people, we enjoy classical music and some of the venues with a piano only. We went on a walk around the ship after supper and just happened on the VCL. Because we were gold we didn't think we could go in there. We asked and were told to come on in. We enjoyed it very much it was so beautiful up there. We were there a few minutes when the cast of Hairspray came in and several of them got up and sang for us. It was honestly one of our favorite memories of the ship.
I understand that if you pay for a suite or have earned loyalty points, you should have perks. I am just sorry that we will probably not be able to enjoy it again.
  5. We were so lucky......the weather was gorgeous. I never needed a sweater or jacket. I wore mostly light weight dresses and slacks ------- and this was at the end of September/early October!

That is terrific news! I will hope for the same. Living in tropical weather, I own mostly warm weather clothes. I am thinking layering is the answer.

Can you tell me about your experiences? What did youthink about the ship and excursions?

  6. Honestly we enjoy the formal nights, however, our dress wouldn't be considered formal and we have always felt appropriately dressed. My husband wears a dark suit and I wear a black skirt/ blouse, or cocktail dress. We have seen men in tuxedos and ladies in long sequined gowns and furs. I say if you think you might like to eat something on the menu that night then go. Dress how you are comfortable and enjoy.

  7. I don't really see why anyone would want to celebrate the loss of a ship. I am sure there are folks who have made some wonderful memories on a particular ship and are sad to see it go.

We have only cruised twice--both times on Oasis. We loved the experience, however, because we enjoy the ports too, we have booked a cruise on the Splendour in Sept. This is a bucket list trip for us and we are excited to see what a smaller ship is like. Then I'm sure we will be sad with the rest of you.

  8. We are booked on the Splendour Sept. 12th sailing from Venice. We have sailed on the Oasis twice and loved her, but we chose the Splendour for her itinerary. We will be in Venice for 4 days before and really want to see the Adriatic ports on this vacation.

I don't know much about the history of the Splendour, but we were looking forward to a smaller ship. Do you think the service and such will change because she has been sold. That would be very disappointing, we have been planning this trip for many years. I know its not supposed to be about the ship--but it is sort a big part of the whole experience.

  9. We loved Giovanni's on the Oasis. We couldn't decide which appetizer we wanted so our server brought a small serving of the 4 we wanted to try. We each ordered a different entree and they split them, so we could both try them. The service was spot on and dessert was so delicious. Wonderful experience.
