  1. We are booked on a cruise out of Venice on the Splendor. This is our 3rd time on RC, we are only gold level. We splurged a little for a junior suite. I know that means a little extra space and a slightly larger bathroom. Are there other perks? Are we allowed to board earlier than we would as just gold level? Just wondering.

    Thank You!

  2. it's a zig zag route-when you look at the cliff a straight path up would be an almost vertical climb!

we took the cable car[had to close my eyes most of route when seeing how close to cliff face we were!]

at the top we had pre arranged a private tour where we had a tour of the highlights of the island including Oia

Yikes! I will have to do the same---never thought the adventure would start just getting up to the city.

  3. Thank you both!!!!

If we choose to walk up the path to Fira is it straight up or does it zig-zag? I take it from others it is pretty rough. I am afraid I would feel sorry for the mules and not want to ride them--I know they are work animals--I just know me.:(

After reading both of your answers I think we will go it alone and get a taxi to Oia and back.

We are in a junior suite, but from what I gather we don't share in any of the extra perks of the expensive cabins.

  4. Our very first trip outside of the US and Caribbean. Visiting Santorini has been a dream of mine for some time and we want to see as much as possible.

We will be on the Splendor and it seems the only other ship in port will be the MSC Musica. I know this is a tendered port, and I understand that the folks signed to take a RC tour get off first.

If we choose to take something on our own how soon will we get off the ship?

Also, planning on taking a taxi to Oia, spending a couple of hours, then back to Fira a couple of hours with lunch then back to ship. Is this doable with plenty of time to get back to the ship. Kind of nervous about this but the tours offered on the ship don't allow enough time in Oia.

    Thank You

  5. I have just booked a Junior Suite (8522) on the Splendour of the Seas for a cruise later this year.

I was wondering if anyone has stayed in this suite (or one close) that can confirm if there is a lot of noise coming from the Pool area and whirlpools located on the deck above ?

    Cheers

Thank You! We are in Junior Suite 8520 for the Sept. 12 sailing. I had this same question. Are we neighbors by chance?

  6. Can't wait to hear your review on this trip...I'm doing the exact same ship/itinerary but in Sept. 2015...and so far I'm doing it solo (yikes). Would love to read how it goes? Have fun! :)

Hello CavyCat4, my husband and I are doing this cruise in Sept also. Wondering which sailing you are on. We sail Sept. 12th.

We are looking forward to being on a smaller ship, as we have only sailed twice on the Oasis of the Seas.

  7. My daughter and I stayed at a lovely, family owned small hotel 6 years ago. I have booked again in October for my mother and myself. Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo gets great reviews on TripAdvisor and we are paying 180€ a night for a little larger room. Breakfast is included. It's in a quieter neighborhood, canal access so the water taxi can drop you off, 1-2 blocks from Aliguna stop. Best of all, besides the owners, is it has a little outdoor space, a courtyard used for breakfast in the morning (weather permitting) and we used it to eat our "dessert" each evening when coming back from a bakery.

    I highly recommend. Very convenient

Our children stayed there on their honeymoon and really loved it!!! We have it booked for the 4 nights before the cruise. We may just go back there after the cruise--we just have 1 more night until flight to come home.

  8. We are going on Splendour of the Seas in September 2015. Our travel plans are to arrive in Venice 3 days before the cruise and stay 1 day after returning from the cruise.

We would like to stay a comfortable distance from the sites and not far away from the port, or at least close to transportation to the port. We will have a fair amount of luggage. We are able to walk distances. We are looking for the Venice experience in a hotel--maybe something rather small. Any ideas?

    Thank You!

  9. Well, just to share an update on the trip in Sept. We had a heart to heart and we ARE going!!! We have even decided to spend some extra time in Venice before the cruise. I really appreciate all of the insight from everyone. We have not really traveled out of the US further than the Caribbean and Mexico. We have had to postpone this trip before because I was fighting breast cancer.

I read hubby all the posts and he agreed life is too short to stay home when we have an opportunity like this.

On another point----he will no longer believe anything he hears on Fox News!!!!!

    thank you all!

  10. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!! to all that responded. I have been reading them all to my husband. You all expressed the same sentiments that I have talked to him about. I say we are going!! We have saved and planned for this trip for a long time and I don't want to put it off any longer. I have read all the trip reports from this cruise and researched until I feel like I know what every place we will see will look like.

Thank You all for the help!

  11. I don't know where the proper place to ask this question would be.

My husband and I are booked on the Splendour out of Venice in Sept. 2015. With everything going on in the world lately, my husband is very concerned. He has tried to talk to me several times about canceling, I am just heartsick over this. We have already postponed several times--kids in college, major illness, etc. We have been planning on spending 1 week in Italy, before leaving on the cruise.

I am wondering if anyone has ever had these fears, and if you could share some insight.

    Thank You!

  12. Thanks everyone. My hubbie thought he was losing his mind. I wondered too if he maybe heard them referring to a Oasis "class" ship. I think they are trying to compete with the Disney ships.

We probably would not sail on the Quantum. We live in SW Florida. It would make no sense at all to us. We would pay for a flight to NJ to sail near where we live and back and then fly home. Also, the destinations are not to our liking. Nassau---blahhh.

In a perfect world--for us---we would like the O and Allure in Cape C.--Anthem in Port Everglades along with the new O class ship. Well we can dream can't we?
