  1. Hot air balloon crash landed in Holland --> left shoulder rotator cuff full-width tear --> surgical repair in the US completed During upcoming cruise, I'd like to maintain physical therapy but will need something like a dowel to do the shoulder abduction exercise shown below. Am currently using a 2' "dressing stick" from Amazon. (Such a handy tool - I became pretty fast with taking on and off shirts 1-handed even though my left shoulder was almost 100% immobile) Any ideas on what I could use like a dowel or press stick from the stateroom? Or something I could ask for from the crew? It doesn't really need to have the top of the "T" part. It can just be a stick. Life pro tips: When people get under stress, they revert to their native language. I knew when the other 15 people in the basket went from speaking calm English during the serene part to speaking fast Dutch at a higher pitch that we were in trouble during descent. At least we missed the big 'canal' that ring'd the farm. If an anesthesiologist asks you, "Would you like a nerve block installed?" Best answer = "Yes please." auto-injected Ropivicaine every 15 seconds for 3 days after surgery = magic.
  2. If I wanted to drop off my luggage and immediately go explore the Cutty Sark, Could I do that at 9:30 AM? I think someone mentioned they did that at a Viking tent, but was wondering what time that tent might pop up? ( to receive luggage)
  3. Ohhh that’s a creepy tunnel. https://images.app.goo.gl/pPYrdkAjnCTtbpZ6A
  4. I’m booked Friday through Monday before the cruise near Covent garden, an area of London I’ve never explored. This makes me want to shift a full day from central London to Greenwich before embarkation day. I think I would enjoy the royal observatory more than revisiting some of the more traditional London museums.
  5. Definitely! Also , Added to to do list for that day “Get screen shot of a gps app showing prime meridian data”
  6. Makes sense. Maybe the YouTuber was thinking about a different cruise line.
  7. Roger that. Is this typically about 30 minutes after port departure? Or does it all depend on the porch and how long the pilot is needed
  8. @Jim Avery @Jammy Bun If I planned to be at the Greenwich departure point at 10:00 AM, when the Cutty Sark opens, do you think there would be someone from viking to take my luggage at 10 AM? I just explored the site of the Royal Observatory. That looks unmissable as well. I would love the chance to stand on the prime meridian line! It just registered my skull through my skull that this is the home of Greenwich mean time! 🤩
  9. Wow! Great picture @Jim Avery ! Goodness the ship looks so close to shore. Is that an optical illusion or? How does it not get stuck...
  10. Thanks so much for the detail! I definitely will check out the Cutty Sark. Looks so close to the ship! (or, the tender embarkation point at least...) That sounds awesome! @Jammy Bun Did you need to be on Deck 7 to hear the Thames river pilot discussion? Re: "river pilot onboard until we reached the sea" @Heidi13 Is there a particular place I could be to watch more close up the pilot leave the Viking ship and get onto the smaller boat when he has to leave the ship? (assuming this Thames River Pilot thing were to happen again) I happened to catch a glimpse of a transfer like that while on my Holland America Alaska cruise and was fascinated. Had I been that 'pilot' I would have screamed my head off. Looked like he was 1 foot away from going into the water as he leapt from ship to boat! I thought something had gone wrong aboard to cause someone to need to do that! I asked someone from the crew, "Why did you make someone jump off the boat vs use the dock like a civilized person!?!"
  11. Does anyone have a picture showing outlet locations relative to beds if beds are separated into 2 twins? I heard on a YouTube that separating the 1 queen into 2 twins means the side tables move to the middle. Makes sense. But that must mean I will need extra extra long USB cables that can span from the outlets on the outside of the queen bed to where the end tables would be in the middle separating the split queen-into-2 twins. Right? Is the queen bed size in all classes of rooms the same size? I'm in a PS2, but I don't think that would make a difference from the photos I've seen.
  12. Pretend tomorrow morning I had to give a driver an address for where my Viking ship is departing in Greenwich. Where in MyVikingJourney.com or my PDF documents could I find this "London (Greenwich)" departure address? [ I just spent 15 min searching for it...I'm sure it's there somewhere...] Anyone happen to know the exact departure name & address for Viking Ocean cruises departing from "London (Greenwich)"? In my Google Maps I see I have previously starred 3 locations: North Greenwich Pier Greenwich Pier and 1 location I had labeled at some point last year as "Viking Embarkation Maybe"
  13. Context - a windy choppy day on a Viking Antarctic expedition cruise The ship had to skip a port and everyone was taking seasick pills: "the ship could not drop anchor because it would just drag the ship" Anchors don't drag ships. Ships drag anchors. Right? Does that simply mean the anchor could not "catch" on the bottom and keep the ship still?
  14. What is the fastest way to see where a given Viking ship is sailing for the rest of the year? Ex: If I go to the Viking Mars page, how can I use this page to see where the Mars is sailing for the rest of the year? https://www.vikingcruises.com/oceans/ships/viking-mars.html
  15. Wow. That is exactly the type of event I like to focus an entire DIY land vacation around. Thanks so much for posting @Let Me Travel! I opened this topic out of confused curiosity, thinking :: Why are Viking cruisers so interested in getting a tattoo in Edinburgh? ::
  16. I’ve been drinking gradually less and less since I started wearing an Oura ring. …Something compelling about the immediate feedback of being able to see how even one drink raises my resting heart rate and interferes withbBoth Deep sleep (the truely restorative kind that gives your brain a car wash at night and cleans out the amyloid plaques that can cause Alzheimer’s) and REM sleep If I drink within three hours of going to bed. So I was not planning on buying silver spirits package. However, I definitely want to try some of the more interesting looking cocktails and maybe liquors from Torshavn that I’ve never tried before. (it looks like some of those have a cost even with the silver spirits package) 2 Qs: 1) Are any pre-dinner cocktails available without buying the silver spirits drink package? 2) Which 0% alcohol beers are available on Viking? when I was in Amsterdam in April, I was totally impressed by the variety and deliciousness of their 0% alcohol beer brands. In the US, the best I’ve tried is Lagunitas Hop. Lagunitas correctly brands it as Hoppy water versus 0% beer. But I love it as a 0 carb 0 calorie fizzy drink for When I get tired of water tea and coffee.
  17. Second question With British Isles Explorer, we embark in London (Greenwich), England on a Tuesday and depart on a Wednesday at 4:00pm In that situation, has anyone in a PS category ever given a bag of laundry to your room attendant after 11:00 am embarkation day and had it returned the next day before departure?
  18. Can anyone confirm the next day turnaround is still accurate post-covid? Need to count the max # of days without laundry to know how many changes of clothes to pack.
  19. Wow, many thanks @photopro2 for the daily capture with all the detail! Also many thanks to @LindaS272 @TayanaLorna @kcpvwill for the extra additional detail. The specific detail that most surprised me was the Restaurant being closed for breakfast on port days. My impression from YouTubes was it was open for bfast every day.
  20. Context: I had an amazing time on my first cruise with Holland America, Seward Alaska to Vancouver, in 2019. However, several times I was stymied by either not knowing, not remembering, or begin told incorrect info on opening / closing times of restaurants, lounges, cafes, and room service. Then there were all the exception conditions that change the normal opening / closing times. For whatever reason I seemed to want to eat at the very end or very beginning of service. This challenge also happens during land travel, especially on arrival day. It's insufficient to ask the hotel receptionist simply: 1) "What time does your restaurant close?" I've learned to prevent surprises, to ask the receptionist to call the restaurant to find out 2) "What time does the kitchen close?" 3) "When is the latest time could a guest order a dinner entree? Question: 1) Has anyone seen a travelers' website where Viking Ocean's restaurant / cafe / bars opening, closing, exception times are listed? 2) During the cruise, is the Viking Voyager app the best source of this info? Are all the times also on the daily printouts? (I'd guess not...). Or just the exception closures / hour changes on the daily printouts. This is what I've started so far in a handy Google Doc... I'll update with all the times when complete after my cruise. Not sure this matters, but I'll be on British Isles Explorer, London (Greenwich) to Bergen aboard Viking Mars === Restaurants --- The Restaurant, Deck 2 back, closed on port days Breakfast: Lunch: Dinner: --- Chef's Table - Deck 1 Dinner: --- Manfredi's - Deck 1 Dinner: === Cafes Mansen's - Deck 7 front starboard Wintergarden - Deck 7 middle near main pool Pool Grill - Deck 7 middle port Pool Bar - Deck 7 middle starboard World Cafe - Deck 7 back near the infinity pool === Bars Torshavn - deck 2 middle near the shops and atrium Aquavit Terrace - Deck 7 back near the infinity pool The Bar - Deck 2 middle near the Living Room and Atrium Explorer's Lounge Bar - Deck 7 front === Room Service 24 hours a day Breakfast: Lunch: Dinner: ? 21. Now I know what to say to impress the Captain during an impromptu interaction. "Sir, was that gentle motorized sound the hydraulic accumulator system getting topped off?" 😁
  22. I love that you included grilled lamb chops for breakfast. It's amazing Viking offers it.
  23. do you bring the small ones, 8 ounce, medium size, 20 ounce, or the large 32 ounce Yetis Related to getting money out at the bank, I always ask for cash in two dollar bills. Everyone while traveling likes the two dollar bills better.
  24. The other aspect these doctors talk about a lot is how you should not give steroids in the first week of showing symptoms. That steroids in the first week can actually be damaging. I Keep notes on the if-THIS, THEN THAt they review each week. I am positive I will eventually get Covid. I would I would not trust any doctor to have the latest info and have it all straight. @Alaskadaughter In the last episode they talked about the rebound effect that many who show symptoms on day one will experience Day 10 . Apparently day 10–11 are the ones to really watch out for. Even if you feel great on day four through seven. Where will your parents be on day 10 and 11? if my mom were still living, I would probably not share that data with her if she were quarantined in a cruise cabin. It could add too much to the stress level. But I would also make extra phone calls on days nine through 12. Please keep us posted on how your mom and dad are doing. - - - - - This darn link would not paste in earlier. In friday’s June 24. clinical update number 120, They talk about how Covid is worse for someone the second time, and also that this day 10 “rebound effect” is the same for paxlovid takers as those who did not take it. No better no worse. The thing you get from paxlovid apparently is it improves odds of keeping you out of the hospital & from dying. https://overcast.fm/+CB0dpryKw
  25. I am thinking about using Luggage Forward to ship my luggage To my London hotel where I will be for four nights before the cruise starts from Greenwich. Two questions One, has anyone used luggage forwarding to a hotel and how did it work with your hotel? Two, did you give luggage forward an extra buffer of a couple days before you actually arrived to the hotel? I could see why you would not want to add a buffer if you’re shipping directly to the cruise, but maybe to a hotel it would be a good idea?
