this is a link from the NY times which shows information about what percentage is vaccinated not only in US but the world.  Under 16 is obviously not included.  US is doing a great job.  Back in September, some of you should read your posts about when you predicted we would have a vaccine.  The fact that April 24, 2021, a little over 4 months, we are at this point is remarkable.

    It’s incredible.

I'll probably get flamed for this post, but here goes. The Royal Caribbean cruises outside of the USA require the vaccine, why can't we. I'm tired of hearing all the complaints that the CDC is holding up the process. Too many Americans are delaying the process. I'm tired of getting daily e-mails from the cruise line asking us to contact our congressman, CDC, etc. We have cruised over 100 times on Royal, Celebrity and NCL, so I understand that social distancing, better ventilation, masks, etc. aren't really going to work especially on older ships.  I know folks that will never get the vaccine and think the government is taking their rights away. We have been vaccinated, what about our rights and a chance to get back aboard a ship without having to fly to Bermuda, Bahamas, etc. Royal plans to resume in July. Right now most states are offering the vaccine to anyone over 16 that wants it. By summer there's no reason why we can't get back to sea feeling comfortable aboard a ship knowing that all guests are fully vaccinated.

    Yes vaccines to cruise.

Or the could do something crazy, like, use the existing MVA/DMV system to provide free IDs or use an existing DL #s + a pin, with linking to the vaccination data on the back end. But to do that, the MVA/DMV would have to be accessible to everyone. When the business scans your ID, it would bring up a picture and name for positive identification and then a Green check or Red X.

I don't like the idea of having the vaccination info directly on a physical card, since how long the vaccine lasts hasn't been established.

Yeah !  I want to require Covid19 vaccinations to vote 😘

Just found out our 27 March 2022 Oasis cruise is hosting the “Legends of Pittsburgh Steelers” cruise.  My understanding is that they’re not chartering the entire ship, just reserving a huge block of cabins for about 1000 - 1200 people, so our reservation is probably safe.

We’re considering rebooking.  My concern is the impact on our cruising experience.  I’m sure there will be special events for attendees that will likely restrict our access to certain venues at times and expect the whole 'vibe' of the cruise will be different.

Has anyone sailed on similar cruises and if so, how was your experience?

I've been on with some NFL cruises - hardly noticed!

I've been cruising for a little while.  Here are a few things I miss:

"exotic" fruits - we used to get mango, starfruit and other fruits.  Now the most exotic I see are kiwi.

"Midnight" Buffet ... it was fun and I enjoyed it .. but it was also like the running of the bulls.  They spend hours on it and in 20 minutes people went throug in a whirlwind and were gone.  There also weren't so many food options back then, now there are so many options they don't need the midnight buffet.

    What do you miss?

The bartenders walking around the MDR w/ after dinner shots !!!

We are now a prime example of rapidly changing rules. One day kids and others can't go to  parks, next day kids can go. One day police can ask anyone why they are out, next day they can't. One day stores can offer curb side pickup, two days later they can't. Toss in the usual anti maskers and uncertain vaccine supply, stir a little and voila.

Sounds like elected officials don't really know what they are doing.  Maybe they should read Cuomo's book . . . Actually I take that back - they should not read that book.

I'm in Central Florida in the largest retirement golf cart community in the world. The restaurants in my area still request masking when not seated and, because we are a large population of older folks, most (my guestimation is 95%) people still mask. I'm very thankful for that. Most of us are vaccinated here but we still mask up per the CDC guidelines. All restaurant employees mask up too as per their restaurant policy.

Wow, that place is my dream.  I've seen pictures and it looks fantastic!  Good for you!

Follow the science?  What if the science is different than what you are being sold?

Wearing a mask after vaccination is essentially anti science.  And again, Covid doesn't go away just because you are eating a steak.  Masks in restaurants are 100% cosmetic theatre.

By the way, I appreciate your graphs as a springboard for discussion. I'm not sure what to make of the one for Arizona.  When the doctors asked for more restrictions, were they actually implemented?

Everyone is going to get hit eventually.  Mother Nature doesn’t care what you do (N95 would be helpful tho)

Probably, but the US went through being ripped domestically for selling PPE to other countries early in 2020, when there were local shortages.  And the respirator shortages.  Not likely to go through that again either.  Eventually, the lessons learned will be forgotten, but not yet.

Add to that the supply disruption recently from the clotting complications in J&J patients.

China played this brilliantly.  It’s amazing how dumb people are.

The "race against time" includes Americans under 65 and the May deadline set forth by the president.  Those doses are part of addressing that objective.

Feel free to donate to the other countries as you wish.

It’s not a race against time for us - we are doing just fine getting shots in arms.   Just saying if other countries have approved Astra then give it to them.  We have a steady flow of Moderna and Pfizer...

The article you cite states that the doses would be used in the US one/if the FDA completes its testing and authorizes them for use.  Only if they are determined to not be same would they become "wasted".

How much are other countries willing to pay for what the US invested hundreds of millions of dollars in?

Race against time.  Shots in arms is the ultimate goal right now.  Send them to Canada, Brazil, etc.

This is USA - we wipe our butts with dollar bills.  Just send them elsewhere for free.  Not a big deal

What's a good alternative to generally trusting doctors and scientists?  It's better than trusting Facebook.

Fair point about the anomaly.  Doctors found no evidence of vaccine-caused death in all 3005 cases. So, to me, the anomaly is just an interesting side issue that, as you say, I have pretty much disregarded.

So I looked into it a bit. Independent scientists are studying the VAERS data and correlating it with other information, looking for evidence of vaccine-caused deaths. So we'll get another take on the data.  But what they find won't matter to you if you are unwilling to assume their honesty and competence.

The wider issue here is the culture of horribly corrosive, misinformed, often politically-driven attacks on experts.

People aren't getting vaccines that could save their lives and those of their families because they've been told that doctors and scientists are corrupt and incompetent.  Maybe we should list 'misinformation' as a cause on their death certificates.

“Experts” have never been wrong?   Just saying...

I have friends who are Dr.’s who have diff opinions about Covid19.  Just seems like certain dr’s/“experts” with certain opinions are the ones we are being told to follow.

I am vaccinated and pro vaccine * aka I trust ScIeNcE.

I am very concerned that pausing J&J will have negative consequences getting more shots in arms.  Someone who was apprehensive about getting a shot will REALLY be on the fence now.

Again, cautiously optimistic that we’ll get at least 70% vaccinated.
