Based on this link I don't see an obstruction for E701. However, I think you will be looking a the tops of two lifeboats on each side of your balcony in E615. You probably need to decide if the larger cabin is more important than any obstruction.

We were one deck higher on both our cruises on the Royal and I would not want to have been any closer to the tops of those lifeboats/tenders. There were bird droppings on the lifeboats and trash in the upper level of the tenders. Neither were cleaned during our cruises.

  2. Is your flight Dec. 28th, the Sunday after Christmas? It looks like there will probably be 6 ships disembarking over 20,000 passengers that day. I am thinking the airport is going to be a bit busy. Along with all those possible cruise ship passengers I am betting that there will be quite a few tourists heading home.

Maybe almost any other Sunday I might consider a morning flight.

  3. It looks like your ship doesn't arrive until 7am. You really need to be at the airport by no later than 7am to make an 8:30am flight.

Just because the ship arrives at 7am doesn't mean that you can disembark immediately. The ship has to be cleared by all the officials. Then, you will have to clear customs once you are off the ship.

It looks like you have not even factored in your travel time from the ship to the airport which will be about 30 mins if there is no traffic.

  4. I have a 4 day cruise booked for September 28th.......final payment was just this past Tuesday July 29th. So that is 60 days.

Also have two more 5 day cruises booked in November and both of those the final payment is due at 60 days prior to sailing.

All three cruises are booked directly with Princess.

  5. Put "clamps" in the search engine on Walmart website and got this.

Where have you bought big towel clips for deck chairs? I have googled it several times and all I come up with is clips shaped like flamingos, flip-flops, etc. All I want is what I see everytime I go on a cruise.....a clip that looks like the end of a booster cable. Thanks in advance.
  6. This directly from the Princess website regarding electronic cigarettes.

    "Electronic Cigarettes

The use of electronic cigarettes is permitted in all areas onboard with the exception of dining areas and the Princess Theater. However, should a fellow passenger in the vicinity feel inconvenienced and complain, even after being told the difference between electronic cigarettes and real cigarettes, we will ask the passenger to refrain from smoking the electronic cigarette."

They are allowed in the casino on non-smoking nights until someone complains even after it is explained to them that they do not emit smoke, only vapor.

  7. Sounds like you need a private shuttle scheduled for your pickup from the pier. I would try to get the earliest time after the "walk-offs" (probably around 8am). Dealing with getting that many people including a toddler can be stressful. Especially since you booked a fairly early flight.

When you are talking to the shuttle companies, ask for their advice. I am sure they are use to working with cruise ship passengers trying to get the airport in a timely manner.

  8. The latest is usually between 9:30 and 10. But that would be too late for you to be leaving for the airport to catch a 11:25 flight. You should be planning to be off absolutely no later than 9, but if it were me I would want to be heading to the airport no later than 8:30.

  9. We always buy travel insurance.

The cost that we have spent on insurance over the past two decades was well worth the cost.

In 2007 we had to get off a cruise halfway through due to the unexpected death of our 25 year old nephew. We were reimbursed for all the costs to get home from St. Kitts back to LA.....not an easy trip. Travel insurance reimbursed for all the extra costs including the 7 days we missed of the cruise. It was less than a $200 investment and we were reimbursed around $3500.

About 10 years ago my SIL and her husband went on their very first cruise. I begged them to get travel insurance. Thank heavens they did. The first day of the cruise her 40 year old husband fell and suffered a compound fracture of his femur. They were taken off the ship in Cabo. After contacting the travel insurance company they were sent back by a lear jet to LA. On that jet were a doctor and two nurses. He was in surgery in a matter of hours and on the road to recovery. If they had not had travel insurance they would have been out in excess of $75,000. That travel insurance was a couple of hundred dollar investment.

So, you don't have to be "old" to need travel insurance.

We originally were buying the travel insurance because of elderly parents. No claim was ever made due to their health.

    Just something to think about.

  10. I have been using pet sitters for decades. Don't have them send the pictures, actually a quick e-mail from them letting you know everything is fine is best. Have them save the reports and pictures for you to look at when you get home.

We invested in a Magic Jack and now give the sitters the phone number. When they call it and it goes to the answering machine it converts their message into a "Wave" file and is sent to us via e-mail. We can sign onto the internet to retrieve our messages. At that time we can open the "Wave" file and listen to the message, it is their actual voice mail message not text. This has been working for years. We give the phone number to the pet sitter, family and friends, so in case of an emergency they can leave us a message and then we can respond via e-mail or decide if it is important enough that we need to spend the money to call home.

Keeps my comfort level up. Luckily we have never gotten a call with any sort of emergency with all our years of sailing.

We do NOT use the Magic Jack to make phone calls as it does not work on the ship.

  11. From the alcohol policy on the Princess website........maximum size allowed is 750ml bottles.

"As provided in the Passage Contract, passengers agree not to bring alcoholic beverages of any kind onboard for consumption, except one bottle of wine or champagne per adult of drinking age (no larger than 750 ml) per voyage, which will not be subject to a corkage fee if consumed in the stateroom. Additional wine or champagne bottles are welcome, but will incur a $15 corkage fee each, irrespective of where they are intended to be consumed. Liquor, spirits or beers are not permitted. Please remember that luggage will be scanned and alcohol outside of our policy will be removed and discarded.*"

  12. I am so sorry for your father's medical situation and wish him a speedy recovery.

Those in your group that have travel insurance should have no problem filing a claim. Those that don't have insurance need to make the decision to either sail or lose their money. It was their decision to put that money at risk.

Why would you think that Princess would change their policy just for your group? There are probably people every day who have circumstances that affect their ability to sail.

We have been on 25 cruises and purchased insurance for every single one except the first. The insurance has been through a 3rd party insurance company. We have had to make claims three times and have always received resolution within a couple of weeks. The most expensive claim was when we had to leave midway through a cruise due to a death in the family. We received a refund for the balance of the cruise, airfare changes, an overnight in a hotel. The other claims were for using the medical facility on the ship.

Rather than post your frustration here you should be on the phone with the insurance company so that you can start the processing of your claim(s). They are there to help you, that is why you purchased insurance.

Wishing you and your family well and hope everything works out and that your father is back on his feet and able to travel again soon.

  13. It's been a few years, but we have taken Quick Shuttle from Canada Place to SeaTac. I think we got on the shuttle at around 9:30am....there was a disembarkation delay. We had booked an earlier shuttle, but did not make it, the shuttle company brought another bus to handle all the people who were late getting off the ship. We did not arrive at the airport until about 3pm. Luckily we were not trying to catch a flight, just picking up a rental car for an extended visit in Washington.

  14. It has been a few years since I used Long Beach airport, so my initial response was going to be NO. However, I decided to do a "google" search about the airport. It looks like they have completed a renovation and the airport appears to be larger. So, if you google "Long Beach airport renovation" you will see what I mean. It is possible that there may be shopping. I know this doesn't really help a lot, since I can't give you an exact answer. As a back up you may be able to get your taxi to stop at a store for you to do some quick shopping. Their meter will still be running, so you will pay a bit more for your ride to the cruise ship terminal.

  15. They should only be stamping the ones that you have to pay the corkage fee. The stamp is so the MDR staff know that you already paid the corkage fee.

Since you are only bringing on one bottle between the two of you there will be no charge so no stamp.

Now if for some reason you decide to take this one bottle to the MDR you would then be charged the corkage fee since it doesn't have a stamp.

  16. The OP needs to come back and verify the airport they are talking about. In looking at the schedule for the Celebrity Century (which they indicated was the ship) it is not on the east coast for the next year. It is sailing on the west coast (SF), then over to Australia and Asia. That being said, I don't think there is any airport that you should try to book a 9:30am flight.
