  1. I saw reviews about the a/c as well but we had no issues in our room. We brought a fax but that is because DH has to have one even in middle of winter to sleep. All the other rooms were fine too- in fact my dad turned the his off at one time. I'll be honest- IMO this is not a very good ship for families with young kids unless you are the type who wants to put them in CC all day (not judging- but just not us). Nice and very clean & great crew but the layout is very choppy for my tastes.

What deck and what part of the ship were you on (aft, forward)? I'm concerned about all I've heard regarding the air conditioning in cabins as well.

  2. They certainly could be doing such a thing. Some people are naturally wasteful at home, and others may be more wasteful when they're not paying for the utilities and in "vacation mode" mentally. I understand that the cruise lines want to save money, but I don't think doing so at the expense of customer's comfort/enjoyment may be the right answer. There may be other ways to cut costs. Having individual HVAC units in every cabin would be the IDEAL solution, but is definitely not economically feasible nor practically possible. I think that having a damper system to shut off HVAC to AND from cabins who leave their balcony doors open would be the best solution. For those that want to circumvent the system can pay the price for their actions. LOL!

Well, then the air system should work at night when most people are in their cabins for 8+ hours. Nothing worse than sleeping in a sweaty bed....yuck!!

  3. Instead of anticipating my next cruise with JOY, I now have a daily feeling of dread wondering if my two balcony cabins will be plagued with hot temperatures. We have connecting cabins on deck 8 by the aft elevators (ugh). Bringing a fan just swirls the hot air around. I hope Carnival gets this fixed SOON!!

  4. We just got off the Paradise on Saturday. We stayed on the Verandah deck interior cabin V-36. The room was freezing, which is a good thing for us. Great for sleeping. We had it set on the coldest, but it could have been adjusted to make it warmer if we wanted. I brought a thermometer with me, as we have had a problem in the past, with the a/c on the Liberty, with the room being warm. The thermometer read 64 degrees on the Paradise, compared to 78 on the Liberty (cabin 7334).

Think my next cruise is going to be on the Paradise!!! Love a cold cabin!

  5. Just got off the Dream 2 weeks ago. Room was very hot to me with balcony doors and curtain closed. Maintence was called and we told 76 degrees is considered the right room temperature. With 2 fans running we were able to sleep.

Well, if Carnival is going to take our air conditioning away from us so they can save money, they should start installing at least two large fans in every cabin.

.......and why in the world would someone have their balcony door open in the summer months? Good GRAVY!! People, if you want to experience the ocean, by all means step out on that balcony of yours......but SHUT the DOOR please!

  6. Are they across the hall from 8447 or on the opposite side of the ship? We stayed on deck 8 at the end of May in 8272 with a connecting cabin with our son and both of those cabins were fine.

Yes, we are port side in aft connecting cabins 8436-8440. Unfortunately, cabin 8272 is much farther forward. I have been reading that the problem is usually from midship back. Ugh.....!

  7. My review is posted on Cruise Critic under ship reviews,Carnival , Dream. It is the most current review.

I just read it....oh my!! What's worse is that my two cabins are on the same deck directly across from where your cabin was. So depressing. ...

  8. According to the many technicians who came to my cabin on the Dream the week of 8/17/14 - 8/ 24/14, Carnival's standard for acceptable temperature measured directly in the vent is 70 - 75 degrees. Please see my Dream review of today. My cabin temperature was always above standard. We sweated through our clothes every night.:

I can't find your Dream review? Can't wait to read it!

  9. Weeeeeeeelllllllll we are leaving saturday on our cruise and my thermometer is already packed. Been reading about poor a/c and other bad things so we will see saturday night.

and i will be a CS desk until something is done, my miss part of my cruise but they will get tired of me at the desk.

Please report back to us! Enjoy your cruise!

  10. I have to believe that the temperature in our staterooms has been below 75 degrees every time we have sailed. I was too cold for it not to have been. From the posts I've been reading this "warm" room issue must not be consistent across the cruiseline. To be quite honest I've never noticed a difference between NCL, CCL, or Princess, inside room or balcony. DH always has the rooms pretty chilly to the point where I need to head outside to warm up or hide under the covers. DH seems to have had the "choice".

I've mostly been reading that this is an issue on the Dream. I just hope my two balcony cabins aren't affected.:(

  11. Temperature is very much subjective. I work in the HVAC field and I hear this all the time. Everyone has their own ideal comfort level. Saying that the feeling of hot and cold is not subjective is similar to saying that something is too salty, sweet, bitter, etc. We all have different preferences.

I think people are missing the whole point here. It's not about who likes it cold and who likes it hot. It's about being able to have the "choice" to adjust the temperature in your own cabin.

The folks that like it warm in their cabin certainly have that option as it stands today. However, the people who prefer a colder environment DON'T have the option of keeping it cool. We are being told it can't dip below 75 degrees (WAY too hot for most of us).

We deserve to have the "choice" just like everyone else on board.

  12. Now you sound just like DH :D. I wasn't arguing with you that some feel hot...living with DH I know they do;). I was disputing the point being made that temperature wasn't subjective. I have grown used to waking up in the middle of the night with my nose an ice cube and shivering so hard my teeth are chattering and my stomach hurts. It takes me a while to warm up again once I find those blankets. I personally find it easier to cool down by turning on a fan than I do warming up after turning into a popsicle. But DH is like you and in our marriage I am usually the one compromising on the temperature because he feels as you do....which is why I have gotten in the habit of booking balconies lately. Unlike some of you, DH can always get that cabin freezing (to me anyways:o). With a balcony I'm not forced to go up on the Lido to get warm. I can just head out the door on our private balcony and he can have the room as cold as he likes:p.

Well, I'm hopeful that I get one of your cabins that has that freezing cold air!:D

  13. My husband does that every night....while I'm next to him shivering under a couple blankets. Yes temperature is subjective:rolleyes:.

I'd rather have the option of sleeping under a blanket because it's cold in the room.......instead of sweating with no chance of any air....or sleep for that matter!

  14. I don't think there is anything subjective about setting the thermostat to it's coldest and having to sleep without your sheets because it is too hot.

The Dream had a real issue felt by many.

Absolutely........there are dozens of forums and complaints regarding it being too hot in the cabins.

  15. Has this thread been hyped up enough to warrant a response from John Heald?

If notifying John Heald gets the problem fixed, I'm all for it!

77 degrees in a cabin!! That's miserable! Who wants to spend their vacation sweating while they try to sleep?

This problem has been going on for a long time now. I'm sure Carnival is WELL aware of it.

  16. We were on the Dream in July and our aft cabin deck 8 was very warm. We would sweat getting ready for dinner and could not use blanket at bedtime. We have cruised several times and this was the first time we have had an issue with room temp. They worked on it 3 times with no success. Our cabin steward said it was also a problem the week before. We were given a discount on our next cruise booking. We didn't ask for it... They offered it. Our friends were in a deck 8 forward cabin and froze all week! They loved it!!!

Oh dear......our cabins are booked on deck 8 - AFT. I hope they are addressing this problem!

  17. The point is......if you like to be warm that is easily accommodated by adjusting the thermometer or opening your balcony door (if you have one). If you prefer it cooler in your cabin, you only have one option of setting it to the coldest setting and hoping for the best. Even at the coldest setting, it keeps the room in the 70's. WAY too hot! Way too miserable.

  18. Regardless of line, the first thing I usually do is set the thermostat down. I like it colder. Usually, setting it all the way down is good for me.

I think outside temp/humidity has a lot to do with the effectiveness. I was on the Paradise a couple years back, and it was a little warmer in my cabin than I liked, even though the thermostat was set all the way down. Yes, I did find the ceiling setting. This was memorial day as summer comes into full swing. It is the only time I remembered where my room was hot and there was nothing to be done about it. I did talk to the room steward and he had someone look at it, but nothing was really done.

However, I found my last cruise on the Independence had a very effective cooling system. I actually had to turn it off from the bottom setting.

Ceiling setting? What's that? I've heard of people having to remove the vent cover to get more air......but, I havent heard of a "ceiling setting"?

  19. Just got off the Carnival Conquest, had a wonderful time, but wished our cabin which was near the aft elevators on deck 8 had better A/C. While the room did get cool, it never really got COOL the way it has on previous cruises with Carnival and I might add we have stayed in this section on different ships so I really don't understand why there is any A/C issue at all in any room. I hope CARNIVAL is listening to their customers and addresses this because it is an important issue for us, i.e. our comfort on their ships. I did ask our steward who said our A/C was indeed on the highest setting, and we did keep our curtains closed during the day, still the A/C never really got cold.:)

We will be on the Dream in July and our balcony cabins are on deck 8 near the aft elevators. Ugh..........I am miserable when I'm hot. Hope they get this figured out!!

  20. I will tell you why 6367 is not a good idea... there is a band that sets up right across from the casino bar and they do not start playing until 9pm and play into the wee hours.

1404 is your better choice. Everything is located in the aft-- except the main show lounge. the only "inconvenience" there is the wait for an elevator.

this is the elevator that will get you to the aft dining room,

I have been trying to find a photo of these "sideways" interior cabins. Anyone?
