  1. Can't help you on that specific room, but, I had one of those rooms on the Victory and I loved it. Being that it was sideways rather than straight thru, I felt that it seemed bigger than the regular rooms.

That's what I was thinking. Sure wish I could see a photo. Thanks!

  2. They are the Deluxe Ocean View rooms. We have been in them before and were perfect for us;) We also had the beds pushed together like the second photo.

I can't figure out where the bathrooms are?

We are five adults. Do you think that will be to crowded?

  3. I hear there is an Oceanview cabin on Carnival Dream that can hold 5 people and has 2 bathrooms. Cannot find any info on this cabin nor any photos or YouTube videos.

Is there anyone who can tell me about these cabins or has any photos or video please?

  4. have you considered taking the amtrak train from new orleans to memphis

We definitely considered this, but the train doesnt leave NOL until 1:45 in the afternoon and then doesnt arrive Memphis until 10:30 at night (IF it's running on time!). If we drive, we can probably get to Memphis by 4 p.m. (I'd MUCH rather take the train though....love it!)

  5. I posted on the New Orleans forums, but didn't get any answers. Hopefully, I will get some here.

We will be debarking DREAM on a Sunday and will need a rental car to drive to Memphis. Someone recommended Enterprise, but they aren't open on Sunday.

Are there any rental companies actually AT the port? Any that will pick you up AT the port? They need to be open on Sunday.

If not, I guess I will be forced to go to the airport to grab a rental car. Are there any car rental shuttles that will pick you up at the port and take you to the airport? Or should I just grab a taxi? How far is the airport and how much?

    Help please?

  6. I have a 21 & 18 year old cruising with me. I don't want their charges for drinks, gift shop, bingo, etc...on my credit card. I booked the cruise, but once we are on the ship, is there a way that they can apply their OWN credit cards to their Sign and Sail cards?

  7. We tried RCCL a few cruises ago and just didn't like it. We were actually bored which has never happened to us on a cruise. We had a really cool cabin at the back of the ship, but that's about the only positive I can say about it. We were anxious to get back to Carnival.

I did a lot of research on RCCL's Oasis of the Seas, and Allure of the Seas and really wanted to try one of them about a year ago, but WOW.....so expensive. They look like beautiful ships though.

  8. Morning Activities at Sam's Piano Bar:

At 9:30am was an activity called "Win, Lose, or Draw". This game was a team game where a team's person would go up and get a card with something written on it. Then the person would have to draw pictures that would help their team guess what the word(s) on their card are. The team of the person would only have a limited amount of seconds to guess. If that team didn't get the correct answer the other team would get a chance to steal. This game was a lot of fun, but some of the words to draw can be hard.

After "Win, Lose, or Draw" was Charades at Sam's Piano Bar. This took place at 10:00am.This game was also a team game where a team's player would be given a card and they would have to act out their card to their team. Their team would have to guess what was on their card. If they didn't get it, the other teams would have a chance to steal for the points.

    BBQ On The Lanai:

Before the cruise started I learned that BBQ is served on the Dream's Lanai on sea-days. The BBQ line will open on a sea-day if the weather is nice. This buffet line is completely outside and can be found on Deck 5 at the back on the starboard side of the ship. When the buffet line is closed the line is removed to keep the deck space open.

There are a variety of different choices that were served at the Lanai BBQ. You can find tacos, quesadillas, sliders (mini-hamburgers), and chips & salsa on the Lanai BBQ.

The line for the Lanai BBQ was very long. All of the grilling for the Lanai BBQ is done outside and the smoke typically blew towards the back of the ship. My clothes smelt like BBQ after I waited in line because the smoke was blowing directly on me and everybody else that was waiting.

    Was it worth the wait?

  9. The Lanai is an area that extends around the perimeter of Deck 5. This is an outside area. The Lanai has many hot tubs and deck chairs. According to on board signage, 2.5 times around the Lanai is equal to a mile. The Lanai primarily has tall window like rails that are taller than most people. The very front and back areas of the Lanai have normal deck rails. The people with balcony staterooms can look down at the Lanai and the people on the Lanai can look up at the people on their balconies. There are many doors from the insides of Deck 5 to go out to the Lanai.

    Muster Station Drill:

The Muster Station drill is always a required event for every passenger on the cruise ship. My muster station was A3 which was the Deck 3 level of the Encore Theatre. The cruise terminal told everyone the muster station drill would be at 3:15pm, but the daily newsletter said 3:30pm. The muster station drill officially started around 3:40pm.

I arrived at my muster station around 3:10pm and got a good seat in the very back of the lounge. There were some other passengers already in the lounge and more came in after me. Around 3:30pm the crew members were instructed to proceed to their stations and soon after the guests were told to go to their stations. The muster station drill went by quickly and the crew working my station did a good job to make the drill go by faster. The drill consisted of safety announcements, what to do in an emergency, and some general information about environmental policies & hand washing.

Everyone was dismissed from the drill depending on their locations. Mine was released first along with one other. The back row was dismissed first and the crew made sure that everyone remained seated until the row behind them had completely left.

Since I was one of the first people out of the Muster Station drill I was able to quickly get to the spot I wanted to be on to see New Orleans as we sailed away. I choose the Lanai on Deck 5 at the very back. This area had lower railings and I wanted to be at the back to see New Orleans as the ship gets further away. It is a good thing that I was able to quickly get to this spot because many others had this area in mind too.

Sail-A-Way: The ship was scheduled to leave around 4:00pm, but it did not actually leave until around 4:40pm. One of the reasons why this may have been delayed was not all supplies were loaded and the muster station drill did not start on-time.

Is there shade at the back of the Lanai where you watched sail away? Is there a bar located on this deck or in this area?

  10. Lunch: The crew members in the lido buffet were extremely friendly. I was one of the first guests to enter the buffet and every crew member greeted me. I had to walk to the back part of the buffet because I was going to eat the Pasta Bar for lunch. Before I cruised, I read that this area of the ship gets crowded once people know it exists. I will share my lunch photos and review of the lunch further down in this review.

THANK YOU to all on Cruise Critic that helped me learn about the Pasta Bar!

Carnival Dream's Pasta Bar: The Carnival Dream's Pasta Bar is located on the upper floor of The Gathering on Deck 11. There is a one way stairwell by the mid-ship dessert station that is only for guests wanting to go from Deck 11 to Deck 10. To go up to the Pasta Bar go to the Deck 10 aft stairwell/elevator area and go up one deck to Deck 11. The entrance is on the port side of the ship. There is a hostess deck that guests can grab an order form. The order forms have little boxes that can be checked if you want a particular item in your pasta bowl. Caesar salad and garlic bread is also available on the order form.

The order process was very easy for the Pasta Bar and when I was done making my selection a hostess brought it to the kitchen. The food took no longer than 10 minutes to prepare. Each person is given a number to display on their table. When the food is ready a hostess brings the food to the person with that number. My pasta bar dish was not good, but only because I didn't make a good selection. I had samples of other family member's pastas and they had really good dishes prepared for them. The garlic bread was very good and the Caesar Salad was good, but could have used more dressing. Each table on the upper floor with the Pasta bar has a small bowl of grated Parmesan cheese.

Is there a bar up at the Pasta Bar where you can have a drink while you're waiting on your food?

  11. OH, I almost forgot! People are always asking what the dress code is for the dining room. Well we were told we couldn't stay because we were wearing flip flops. Now we all had jewels or rhinestones on them except for little Josie, who's were solid black, but looked nice... not ratty. Not to mention, my mom and I both had fancy shirts with black slacks and the girls were wearing dresses. Please. The lady at the entrance to the dining room said we needed to go ask the maître d' if he would make an allowance. She pointed him out to us and we said yeah, yeah, we're on our way... but guess what... we just made a beeline for our table and no one called us on it. Blah, whatever! We were seated and no one could see our feet anyway at that point.

Wow! I've never known them to enforce the dress code rule. I always see tacky denim shorts on men and horrible hoochie mama mini skirts on women (who have no business wearing them!)

  12. 3 times on the Dream, 3 times with AC working just fine. Deck 8 interior, deck 2 porthole, & deck 1 deluxe OV. In the OV this last January, it could get very cold if turned all the way down. I haven't read the complaints about it, but it's good to know that the Dream is like the kid in class that everybody picks on for no reason, sometimes even making things up. If you want to be cool or popular, you'll pick on him too. But if you give him a fair chance, you may just wind up with the best friend you could possibly have.

I sure hope to be best friends with the Dream after my time on her!
