  1. I just received an email from the concierge onboard the Oasis (we sail in 6 days).

I was surprised that it indicated that both the "over the water" and "waterfront" cabanas at Labadee were "NOT AVAILABLE".

The only ones listed as available were "Hilltop" and "Standard".

It was my desire to reply ASAP when the email came so that I could get an over the water one, but apparently others were able to book them before the email even went out.

BTW - I had emailed the Concierge about 3 months in advance, and again 4 weeks ago... with no reply. So, it's not like I did not give the the old college try!!

    Tom

Hi Tom, I know this is near-and-dear to your heart: did you get an answer about a fan?? ;)

  2. As a couple of others have pointed out, the OP has never had this happen on previous cruises - they were always allowed to keep the golf clubs in their cabin. In this case, they were even delivered with their luggage on the 1st day and this situation did occur until day 3 so thus the OP's confusion. I don't think she or Mr. Ski had any problem with it, they were just surprised, especially on the next to last day when told they could not have them back until after debarkation.

  3. This thread is about who the concierges are.......not the logistics of it..:p

Again, I understand that but I did not initiate the commentary on the type of people that frequent either lounge - only commented on other posters' views and experiences. It's kind of difficult to to have an on-going thread on ships concierge personnel (which I sincerely appreciate) without a few sidebar posts relating to the CL. There's even a post above about the Jewel's enhancement schedule.... not exactly concierge personnel related.

  4. The Concierge Lounge is not only for Suite Guests, but for D+ and PC Members, many of whom still work.

Understood but I would guess, based on cat's experience in talking with people in the DL, that since suite guests who are not D+ or PC cannot visit the DL, they would frequent the CL. It makes sense to me therefore that you would encounter a higher percentage of working types (and a lower percentage of veteran cruisers) in the CL. But as my wife says, I'm just over-analyzing it and really, does it matter what type of person visits which lounge? Not really but never having been on RC before, I'm just trying to get a feel for things. :o

  5. We too met the D+ cruisers who chose the Diamond lounge over the Concierge and they told us they found the folks they spoke to were very work-focussed, "What do you do" and that sort of thing and, mostly talked about their work and work achievements. They were retired and said they didn't want to talk about work. The Diamond crowd was more their set, folks who were interested in travel and had the time to pursue it.

This is interesting and does make some sense - the CL would likely have (for the most part) pax from suites who still work whereas the DL has more veteran cruisers who are less focused on work. I am recently retired also and don't really want to tell work war stories any more so I will keep that in mind when visiting the CL on Indy later this year. Thank you for the insights.

  6. Also interesting to hear that some D+ cruisers were miffed by the 'snooty attitude' of some of the frequenters of the Concierge Lounge.

Oh gee, I hope not! We will be on our 1st RC cruise later this year and splurged on a GS and are looking forward to using the CL but don't want to be looked down upon. :(

  7. We always get a Grand Suite on the Inspiration and I've never seen the option of an Owners Suite. And I've never seen it on any deckplans. Where/what deck is it located?

I don't think anyone answered this yet but the Owner's Suites (two of them) are located on deck 12 (Sports deck) overlooking the Lido pool. Here's the deck 12 layout with a red arrow pointing to the large, grey area where the suites are located. I put a red line down the middle to indicate that there's two suites. The diagram is kinda small but I didn't take the time to upload it to my Photobucket account. :o Click on the image and it will open in a new window, larger. (Edit: Oops, looks like CoffeeGoddess answered also a few minutes ago).

  8. They aren't bookable online and you won't see them on any deck plan however if you look at a deck plan, on deck 12 (Sports deck), the large grey semi-circular area that kind of wraps around the atrium is where they are located. That semi-circle is split in the middle, with one suite occupying each half.

  9. This board's resident experts on Fantasy class Owner's Suites (Tom-n-Cheryl) have said that Carnival's price point on those cabins is $400 per person per day (he didn't say if the usual 3rd, 4th, etc. passenger reduced cabin price applied or not). So based on that (but not knowing how much you paid for the OV) and the fact you have five people, I think $1800 total is a pretty decent deal.

  10. Maybe so, but I couldn't turn the 20 oz ribeye down. Grilled to perfection - could cut it with a spoon. Ate every bite and damned near licked the plate.

I didn't say "I" had the lobster..... not with all that fantastic red meat to chose from! I had the New York and it was perfect also... I ate every single scrap. ;)

  11. And the MDR only serves lobster on the first elegant night. I didn't know that in advance else I wouldn't have gotten reservations for the steakhouse that particular night. Oh well, the steakhouse was excellent!

The lobster in the steakhouse is better... at least that's what DD told me on our last cruise and she had lobster in both the MDR and the Freedom steakhouse. :)

  12. You've now learned the same way we did. Never book under the lido deck. We had the same experience but different ship. Now,, we always look at deck plans and choose a cabin on a floor that has cabins above, cabins below, cabins to the left and right.

Same here.... look for those decks with nothing above and below but other cabins. The only time we did not do this, we were one floor below the Lido buffet and we heard the carts rolling and other things banging far more than we would like. Never again. ;)

  13. It really does depend on the bartender in my experience. In the MDR very watered down, had no detectable alcohol.

At the Fun Farewell party people were getting Long Island ice teas...very strong!

One person I get familiar with on the first night is the cocktail waiter in our section of the MDR and make sure he/she knows my preference. After that, they are always at our table within minutes of us being seated every evening with my usual pre-dinner cocktail, very generously poured. And of course I take good care of that person on the last night with a likewise generous tip. ;)

Kroozers is also probably correct: I seriously doubt the liquor bottles are being cut with water but rather the bartender is being precise and only pouring 1 ounce and nothing extra.

  14. Not exactly answering your question as written here, but I just came back from a Destiny cruise that was just myself and my DD. Mrs. S2M had to stay home and work due to a job change. No guilt here, is that bad?

Looks like our next cruise will be the same: Mrs. Joe is staying home so it's just me and our youngest DD (24). We wish she would go but wants to stay home to babysit our new granddaughter and she also says she's tired of the Mexico/Caribbean itin's - but she really perks up when talk of Alaska or Europe occurs. I guess that's a hint.

  15. I wonder how many people remember the when this question was ORIGINALLY answered on the Newlyweds show and WHY it never aired then ? :D

I remember, in fact, it has made the Most Outrageous TV Moments (or something like that) television shows. The woman obviously totally misunderstood the question.
