  1. We allowed for 3 hours when we went to Florida a few weeks ago and it pretty much took most of that. Our flight was at 9:55am. While customs was empty, everything else took awhile, baggage tagging, checking in, security took forever as there were only so many lines opened. We had about 30 mins to grab coffee and “decompress” 😉

    I'm nervous about testing positive on a PCR even if not contagious (supposedly you can still test positive for up to 6 months after having had Covid?) We all got it in January but we have no PCR test proof of it since we can't get PCR testing in BC, or any testing for that matter...lol

    Exactly this! Ontario as well.

  3. Royal is "offering" the following Re-entry testing from international travelers headed home. You basically test at the pier on debarkation day and receive results within 30-60 mins. You will be able to make an appt onboard. From the RCCL website:

    International Re-Entry Testing Options for Cruises from U.S. Homeports

    Many international travelers will require a negative COVID-19 test result for re-entry into their country of residence. Please see below for options available to you on your sailing.

    Be sure to familiarize yourself with your country’s specific requirements prior to scheduling your re-entry test.

    For Sailings Departing On or After February 1, 2022

    Optional testing to satisfy your International Re-Entry Testing requirement is offered just outside the terminal after you disembark the ship, through our test provider partners. The cost of testing is the responsibility of the guest, and varies depending on the port, with antigen tests starting at $99 and PCR tests starting at $130. Either test is “swab and go,” and results will be emailed to you within an hour after testing. Once onboard, you will receive further guidance on how to schedule a test appointment.

    • You can also make your own arrangements with test providers at the airport, or in the area of the port, such as local pharmacies or clinics.

    Heck my wife left her phone in a taxi in Nassau.  We realized it while sitting outside having a beer.  Her reaction was 'oh well, let's go and buy some beer'.  Didn't phase her one single bit.

    Ahh well.  We love to travel and won't let negativity stop us!

    Ha! Love this!!! Cheers to you both 🍺

  5. @edrussell Greetings from Toronto! 🙂

    your posts brought a smile to my face as it is truly refreshing to hear the sheer enjoyment and excitement and positivity from a first time cruiser. It makes you stop and remember all the little things that makes cruising simply the best vacation.

    Hope you enjoy your remaining sea day and you will just LOVE Oasis. Happy travels!

  6. We returned from the Florida (no cruise) and my husband was randomly selected at customs.

    He received the Switch health take home test to be done within 24 hours and picked up by Purolator.

    Was happy as the line up to get swapped at Pearson was at least an hour long. It seemed random as to how they divided the lines, not by your arrival location. Husband did not have to quarantine.

    Within 24 hours of arriving home, all of us in our party actually received an email to advise us of quarantine rules- IF we arrived from US only. IF we arrived from other destinations and expectations.

    Email below:

    This message is to remind you that you must follow the requirements outlined in this email that apply to your situation, as were determined when you entered Canada.

    IF YOU:

    1.          Were randomly selected to complete COVID-19 molecular testing; AND,

    2.          In the 14 days before your arrival in Canada, you were in a country OTHER THAN Canada and the United States

    THEN, YOU MUST:

    ·     quarantine for 14 days starting on your date of entry in Canada OR until you have received a negative test result from the day 1 COVID-19 molecular test, whichever comes first;

    ·     report your arrival at your place of quarantine within 48 hours after entering Canada by calling the Public Health Agency of Canada at 1-833-641-0343; and

    ·     report your COVID-19 symptoms status daily for 14 days starting on your date of entry in Canada OR until you have received a negative test result by calling the Public Health Agency of Canada at 1-833-641-0343

    IF YOU:

    1.          Were randomly selected to complete COVID-19 molecular testing; AND,

    2.          In the 14 days before your arrival in Canada, you were ONLY in the United States or Canada

    THEN, YOU MUST:

    ·     complete the DAY 1 test within 24 hours of entering Canada;

    ·     for the 14 days after you entered Canada, monitor yourself for symptoms of COVID-19; and

    ·     maintain a list of the names and contact information of every person you have come into close contact with during the 14-day period AND all of the places you have been

    IF YOU:

    1.          Were NOT randomly selected to complete COVID-19 molecular testing

    THEN, YOU MUST:

    ·     for the 14 days after you entered Canada, monitor yourself for symptoms of COVID-19; and

    ·     maintain a list of the names and contact information of every person you have come into close contact with during the 14-day period AND all of the places you have been

    For the 14 days after you entered Canada, if you test positive for COVID-19 or develop symptoms, you must:

    ·     immediately isolate yourself from other members of your household for a period of 10 days that starts from the day you received your positive test result, swabbed your nose, or developed symptoms;

    ·     report your symptoms or positive test to the Minister of Health by calling 1-833-641-0343; and

    ·     contact your local public health authority.

    REQUIREMENTS FOR UNVACCINATED CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 12
    For 14 days after entering Canada, unvaccinated children under 12 who entered Canada with vaccinated guardians, must:

    ·     complete COVID-19 molecular tests on day 1 and day 8 of entry to Canada (unless under the age of 5);

    ·     avoid contact with vulnerable persons;

    ·     not attend school, camp or day care;

    ·     avoid crowded public settings including parks and sporting events;

    ·     wear a mask AT ALL TIMES in both indoor and outdoor public settings when these spaces cannot be avoided; and

    ·     remain with their fully vaccinated parent or guardian as much as possible.

    ·     Further details are available here: https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection/awareness-resources/unvaccinated-children-under-12-without-symptoms-travelling-fully-vaccinated-parents-guardians.html.

    A screening officer may contact you to confirm your compliance with these requirements. Failure to comply may result in fines of up to $5000 and/or transfer to a designated quarantine facility.

    We urge you to be diligent in meeting these requirements; this will help slow the spread of the virus and save lives.

    Thank you for continuing to do your part!

    If you are flying into the US, you pre-clear in Canada and aren't subjected to the same process when you arrive. This is the model that Canada should follow for testing, show proof of your negative test at the airport in the US and that's it. The double testing is a terrible waste of resources and does little to control Omicron.

    We just got back from Orlando and my husband was randomly selected at Canadian Customs. Because we came from the US he doesn’t have to quarantine while waiting results. It’s day 4 now and still waiting…🙄

    What was the cost of the Rapid PCR at Urgent Care, and turn around (if you don't mind sharing), and perhaps the location/area.  TIA

    It was $200 USD for a rapid PCR test and results in 2 hours at the Urgent care. Took all of 10 mins there. They only issue paper results so we did need to come back in the evening which was easy after we went out for dinner and the papers were ready. A quick Uber over and uber waited for us to collect and come out.

    we went to “Urgent Care 24/7”. We were in Orlando. They have multiple locations in Florida. Appts 24 hrs a day. Best to book in advance for a preferred time since they are so busy now. They were amazing. I liked not having to wait for an email for results.

    we originally had BeeperMD booked to come to our hotel and they no-showed. Got $$$ back.

    we got back to Toronto last night. not sure exactly where you are in Florida but there are several urgent care options.

  9. Our original appts cancelled on us and we had booked a back up at Urgent care.  Rapid PCR. Results in 2 hours. Would book them again in a flash. Ensure you are booking Rapid PCR as the regular PCR’s are taking days and days to return results

  10. In light of current uncertainties, onboard evolving measures/restrictions and the sheer amount of Canadian struggles to travel right now 😭, we have made the difficult decision to reschedule our January sailing, hopefully to end of April/beginning May.

    Actually never had to cancel before (in all of our years of cruising)…  meh not a fan😒

    As we have quite a bit of cruise planner items purchased from dining, excursions, Voom, etc…. Is it best to then on my own cancel those items separately before cancelling the cruise itself with TA? Would that give me the refund on planner purchases or does it not matter if I just cancel everything at once direct with TA. I would prefer to get the refund for those items vs them turning to OBC or more FCC

    I imagine we have to take FCC for the actual cancellation then Apply to eventual new sailing VS a date change with any fare increase?

    Thank you In advance! Here's to a hopeful 2022 🤞

    Yes, Rapid PCR tests are acceptable and are offered at many airports and other testing facilities. They also cost more than the slower variety.

    Here's an example of price difference from the Fast Test Now facility at FLL. In USD, of course! Note that all tests, no matter how quick, are approved for international travel.

    Closer to home, at an Ottawa testing facility, look at the price difference between their same-day results ($159) and 1-2 hour results ($299).

    Thank you So much for the great updates. Holy expensive!!!! I wish there was more info provided about the pier testing to learn how quick for results and how much.

    Thank you again!

  12. This just keeps adding to the frustration of planning and stress on debarkation day which is always a gloomy day to begin with after vacay. Knew it was too good to be true for onboard testing. We board on the 8th and have 12 noon flight. Are Rapid PCR's acceptable for return to Canada? @Fouremco I feel like you are the source of info to know this. LOL. Thank you in advance.

    I guest now have to factor in how long this would all take to test then clear the area, head to airport and pray for test results.

    I'm looking forward to hearing how the return to Canada is.

    Just need to be prepared to possibly quarantine for up to 3 days if you are selected for testing upon arrival back in Canada. Based on the ministers announcement on Friday, they are targeting 23000 tests per day. Our relatives just came back one was subject to test and one wasn’t lol
