Graph on what tests detect covid and for how long.    Takeaway - PCR tests are more sensitive and detect covid virus for 6+ weeks after exposure.  Antigen (red in this graph) detects the virus for less time - 2-3ish weeks after exposure.

It's not a perfect science and we are still learning.  But that's (another reason why) I will get a rapid test before I cruise.  (and yes I'm vaxxed)

I assume when you say rapid test you are talking about the antigen test because there are rapid RT-PCR tests too.

Does RCCL tend to offer Royal Up offers on every cabin type even though they are sold out for that level? (my sister bid on a Royal Loft Suite on our Ovation cruise coming up, but there aren't any that haven't been already booked -- is this just a way to get passengers excited over something that isn't going to happen no matter what the bid or are they just hedging bets in case someone cancels last minute?)

    Yes

Yes.  I saw that.  Now I'm waiting for all the internet experts to claim the study must be wrong.  They and the cruise lines have to take action BEFORE something happens, if they are having to react to a problem, it's too late.  I am willing to bet the cruise lines were made aware of this yesterday, thus the changes.  Amazingly they know what they are doing without all of our opinions.

The study is interesting but it wasn’t pier reviewed (yet).

Note to cruisers from FL:  I just scheduled a no cost to me PCR test at a local CVS, drive thru, for August 12 (our cruise is on August 15).  You just input your insurance information and they will only bill your insurer.  No co-pay or deductible.

However, I am seriously considering cancelling.  We were on the Carnival Horizon earlier this month and it was so pleasant.  No tests, no masks.  95% vaccinated and it felt like a real vacation.

From my point of view, Royal has mishandled all of this and needs to rethink its strategy.

Your insurance is going to pay for the test without symptoms and they will give you the results that day?

Celebrity and Royal seem to have some hole in the wifi that allows apple products to work without purchasing a package. I have experienced it on both lines. The reason I know it's apple products is because one member in our party had a Samsung and we couldn't communicate with them.  We were even able to text people at home who had an iPhone. We didn't try to call.

This varies by ship with most now closing the loophole so you can’t.

I wonder if that is the terminal that they will use when Harmony, Indy and Mariner are all sailing out of PC at the same time.  I think when I looked a long time ago there are days when there will be 2 Royal ships there on the same day

They altered Mariners schedule to 5, 4, and 8 day cruises so all ships can use Terminal 1

    I'm sure I can count on CC'ers!

I thought I read something recently that said children 12 and under, that can't be vaccinated, would be tested getting on the ship at no expense. I know there is a fee for unvaccinated people that are eligible to be vaccinated.

I just talked to a guy at RC that told me my two grandsons, 3 and 5, don't have to be tested, BUT if they want to go to the kids club they have to have been tested before getting on the ship.  Or they could be tested on the ship and have to pay for the test.

Does any know?  Thanks for any help!

This should read under 12 testing..  It is free for under 12 and testing is upon arrival.

If 12 and over aren’t vaccinated they must test prior to arrival and upon arrival at their expense.
