musicalianne Posted May 28, 2018 #51 Share Posted May 28, 2018 I just found this thread...what memories. My first cruise was also on the Carnivale, not sure the year, but early 80’s. I remember how beautiful the ship was with the wooden stair rails and all the grandness of an old ship—all gleaming dark wood throughout. I had an inside cabin that was so small, you could barely turn around...my husband and I had upper and lower berths—it was all we could afford at the time. But, I was hooked!! I love cruising. I miss the midnight buffets with the ice sculptures and I miss the waiters marching in with baked Alaska’s on their heads and them standing around the dining room singing to us. Cruising has certainly changed through the years, but my love of cruising has only grown! Here’s to many wonderful cruises for all of us!! marco Posted June 14, 2018 #52 Share Posted June 14, 2018 I took a cruise to Bermuda out of Norfolk VA in the mid 70's when it was the "Queen Anna Maria", still part of the Greek Line. The next year, I took pretty much the same cruise, but then it was Carnival's "Carnivale". I liked the ethnicity when it was part of the Greek Line, especially the dining and staff and service way more than when it was a Carnival ship. (Not to mention that the bar prices pretty much doubled.
NWACruiser Posted June 25, 2018 #53 Share Posted June 25, 2018 We went on the Carnivale on our honeymoon in 1986. It was a beautiful ship. More to come.
lifes-a-beach Posted October 26, 2018 #54 Share Posted October 26, 2018 First cruise in 1992. Complete disaster. 40 foot seas, lost $3,000 in the casino in one night in the Bahamas and we nearly crashed during landing on the return flight. The plane had lost hydraulics and we landed in foam on the emergency runway in Houston. That was my last cruise. Until a few years later. Thirty-something cruises later and it's just a great story. diana2928 Posted January 4, 2019 #55 Share Posted January 4, 2019 I found these photos from my first cruise. I recently requested to add this to my VIFP club, and although I don’t have a sign & sail card or boarding pass from then, the embarkation photo was valid proof to add points. I was 14 in this picture, I am surprised they allowed me to count it, lol! I will never forget the Carnivale ship.
nemesees Posted January 8, 2019 #56 Share Posted January 8, 2019 I know its old thread and the ships long gone. Wife and I cruised honeymooned on the Carnivale in August 1982 Cant remember a lot of what we did while on it tho but the Bar drink glasses with the Carnival logo were actual glass and not plastic like these days. Port of calls were San Juan, St Thomas, and Samana in the Dominican Republic. that beach and coastline in Samana were the best ive been to. Felt like carpeting underwater. JoBarco Posted January 27, 2023 #57 Share Posted January 27, 2023 I know this is several years after last post but I sailed from Norfolk, VA to Bermuda in Spring 1974 on the Anna Maria. I was 26 years old. I have since done two Norwegian cruises and one Costa. Carnival has announced that they will be sailing year round from Norfolk to Bermuda. We are less than one hour from Norfolk and would love to try Carnival. I’m wondering if they would recognize the cruise I took on the Anna Maria 49 years ago.I know I have photos somewhere abd Syoer 8 movie footage for sure!
