new kid Posted June 17, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 17, 2004 We are sailing on the Dawn Princess on August 30 and are considering taking the 26 Glacier tour when we arrive in Whittier. Does anyone know if this tour is worth while? Thanks

StillLooking4Adventure Posted June 18, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 18, 2004 We considered this trip last summer. After reading the boards and doing some investigating we came to the conclusion that the tour followed much of the same route our ship was going to take on the first day out. We passed and went on the 6 hour kenai fjords tour out of Seward instead. We loved it. We did love looking at Glaciers from our ship and if your cruise does not go around Prince Williams Sound or do the College Fjord then it sounds worthwhile. PS - We didn't have one "bad tour" while in Alaska for the 3 weeks last summer. We enjoyed some more than others, but they were all professionaly done, organized and pretty much delivered what was promised. Wildlife is always the one unpredictable thing on any tour. With Glaciers, calving is also unpredictable and if you see good calving it is pretty awsome. Budget Queen Posted June 18, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 18, 2004 I have gone with Phillips and the tour is excellent with far closer and more glacier viewing compared to your cruise ship. If of interest to see more glaciers- yes then book it. This isn't a big wildlife area, as mentioned that is best out of Seward on a boat tour of at least 6 hours on the water.
