Anyone ever successful in skipping the life jacket drill?

Some friends told me they have NEVER attended a life jacket drill, and have never been made to leave their cabins. While we were all out there, they were inside having some fun LOLOL. Anyone else?

Some people do miss it, but they are supposed to have to make it up at a different time. Is it a pain? Yes. We'd all rather be someplace else, and its frustrating when people don't show up because they wait for them. Again, most times they are required to have a 'make up' time if they miss it. Don't know much about it or how they enforce it because I just go and get it over with.

Over the last few years a few cruise ships have sunk.

It may seem routine, but the information you receive during the drill could save your life. For the sake of yourself, and other passengers, please attend the drill!

I wonder how they had fun while the whole ship was closed down - no service and while they have to hide somewhere to avoid being sent to their station. Does not seem like a lot of fun to me.

Why not go there and make it the official start of your cruise? Take it semi-seriously: you go there to learn what do do in an emergency but also to meet a few of the people you will be seeing around the ship (hopefully never in the lifeboat).

I have been on a burning ship and was evacuated with a lifeboat - you would be surprised how easy it is to fall into a pattern you know, so take the few minutes to get to know it and have fun with the others who do the same.

You know I break just about every rule the ships have. I dress in shorts of the dining room, i wear flipflops on formal night i go topless on lido i bring my own booze and pop i could go on on, we all can.

But I always go to the life boat drill, have never tryed to miss it, dont feel the need to try.

I hate the darn drill too but it could save you life if somthing went bad on the cruise.

just go to the drill

My thought is to attend the drill and get it over as quickly as possible, I despise the late comers. There are the select few that think that they deem themselves so important that they can keep the other 2000 to 3000 waiting while the take their leisurely time getting to their station. My first thought when I see these morons is to stick that whistle hanging from the vest into their posterior.

Before you decide to skip the life boat dril, you might ask the guy who on the Radiance this week decided "he had been to several, this was not his first cruise and he was not going to attend" He was escorted to his station in his underwear and life vest. He complained all the way through the rest of the drill and all the way back to his cabin.

Rebels without a clue. How much "fun" can it be to skip a procedure that may very well mean the difference between life and death?

I've actually missed two...before you get on me, let me explain, please...

1st one I missed our son was 7ish months and had fallen alseep. We were putting him the stroller, and our cabin attendent told DH and the other 2 DS's to go and for me to stay with the baby.

2nd time was after DH had a stroke, no kids that time, DH fell asleep -Embarkation was too much for him. Again Cabin Steward told me to stay in the cabin, and that he would show me the station and how to get to it later. Sure enough, he left me a note with a suggested time. I met him and he showedd me how to properly wear my vest, and how to get to the muster station and he showed me a crew set of steps to use that would be less crowded and therefore easier for DH.

I think everyone should go, it's important. We don't try to skip them, sometimes it just happens.

clearly there are some reasons to miss the drill and do the make up drill. but 3BOYSVUS was not playing a game of missing the drill.

according to some maratime law i seen once the cruise line has 24 hours to run the drill. it appears most do it first thing to get it over and done with and move on with life.

OK I've read all your blasting.....first off I never said I was going to miss the drill did I.......I've never missed one, don't intend to. I just thought that it was funny (odd) that they have NEVER been caught or forced to go. As for the question about what kind of fun they could be having with the ship not open for business.........use your common sense......they weren't roaming the ship, they were in their cabin.........hello. So I thought there would be other humorous stories, but I hit a nerve. Not my intention.

Those of us who take the drill seriously really do not appreciate those who do not. Ask anyone who has been delayed on deck while the crew waits for the ones who take their own sweet time arriving, who don't bring their life jackets, or who just generally do not follow the rules of the drill. This is not rocket science. Common sense dictates that the quicker we all cooperate and complete the drill, the quicker we all get to the business of having a great time.

Ya know, that may be a good reason people tell you "don't blow on the whistle - you don't know where it's been...":p

Hey, I understand you were just making conversation and meant no harm, but there really aren't any humorous stories regarding skipping muster.

It's hot. It's crowded. And you are there 15 minutes longer than you should have to be every time because some jerkwad decides to be cute. Pisses everyone off. Ranks right up there with chair hogs and smokers as an issue sure to light a short fuse.

I wouldn't miss for anything. It's a great way to meet new friends, right at the start of the cruise. For those few minutes, everyone has something in common, so making conversation is a breeze.

"Do you think orange suits me?"

"Can you help me tie this bow, please?"

" How do they do this on a nude cruise?"

"We are lifeboat number one! Where is lifeboat number two?!"

Do I ever agree with you. I was thinking the same thing when we were standing there in the hot sun waiting on the stragglers...
