cloudy21 Posted January 23, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2017 Thinking about renting a car for one day when our ship docks in mid-February. Hertz quotes $93 (includes hotel concession fee and taxes). Is the $12 collision damage waiver a good idea? Has anyone confirmed that either their personal auto insurance policy or their credit card provided this coverage?

You need to check with YOUR insurance carrier and credit card company to understand what you are insured for and what your risks are. And there are a few places where your coverage may not apply but SXM is not one of those. We have additional liability through our cc and buy the extra cdw when out of the states. For the price not a big deal, especially for one day! So the short answer is YES!!!

It would be very unusual, but not impossible, for your own auto coverage - which is generally for a specified vehicle(s) - to cover the cdw. Our Amex card does - automatically - as we have signed up for it. Check with your cc issuer.
