we are told that we can't show up until 1:30pn for our 4:00 pm sailaway. What time can we really get there??

Most ships start boarding at 11:00-11:30 if they arrived back on time.

As far as the 1:30pm time....you cannot access your cabins until that time, but they do begin boarding prior to. Just check your heavy stuff and carry on a bag....be sure your cruise documents are in your carry on. :)

We always show up between 11AM and 12 noon!...:D

You can expect to board about 10:30 in most cases.

Carnival specifies 1:30 so that people don't whine, b**ch, and moan for standing in line for 4 hours because they arrived at 9:30... and Carnival did not start the boarding process until 1:30 due to unforseen circumstances... and believe me, there seems to be plenty who whine and want to blame anyone else but themselves.

We have always arrived between 10-12 and have always been able to begin the check-in process at that time. Most times we have even been allowed to board as soon as we got thru checking in. In New Orleans, however, we did have to go to the "holding area" for an hour or so before they began boarding.
