Sailed this ship once before when it was Destiny + loved it. A little disappointed this time. Hate the new style buffet + the check-in for anytime dining a little weird. At least 4 areas of the ship had overhead leaks with buckets underneath + carpets soaked. Not good! Cabin safe didn't work, lights didn't work, + shower drain plugged up. MDR, Guy's, Mongolian Wok, Blue Iguana all good. Didn't care for the Italian at lunch but others said the dinner was great. Can't say enough about Ji Ji's Asian, it was FABULOUS especially the duck. Word of caution, when they tell you it's a little spicy, what they mean is, "if you eat this you will die". Shows all good. Ports of call, very disappointed in Aruba. Water dirty, town wreaked of raw sewage. Loved Bonaire + Grand Turk.

Sounds like for the most part you had a good cruise. It's funny how everyone has slightly different experiences and preferences; Sunshine has been our favorite ship so far, and Aruba one of our favorite ports. When we were last there, it was a beautiful sunny day, the town and the market were clean and the water beautiful. And for us, the Sunshine has so many pluses like all the food options listed (don't forget sushi!) plus the great outside areas around the waterpark and sports square, that we overlook little things like buffet layout or dining check in.

All ships have their pluses and minuses. For example, I know there are lots of people on here that love the Conquest class ships - they happen to be my LEAST favorite as I can't stand the fishbowl lido, and the inability to navigate decks 3+4 without going up or down a flight of stairs - and then you are either walking thru cabins on deck 2 or the nasty, smoky, smelly casio on deck 5.

I'm glad you tried her and now can pick ships that better suit what you like.

Good review, I'm sailing on Sunday and expect to have the same experience. My take is that if you don't find at least one leak or broken item you're not on a Carnival ship :D

We were on the Sunshine a week ago. We didn't see any buckets or leaks (our cabin was on deck 7) - not to say there weren't any but we didn't see any.

Everything in our cabin worked fine - the safe, the AC, the lights, all drains, the toilet and the shower.

We studied the deck plans so we knew what decks would take us through the length of the ship and didn't find that to be a limiting factor.

All the lines we've been on have smelly casinos that are designed to be cut through by passengers walking the length of the ship.

We thought the buffet worked pretty smoothly for the number of passengers. Having the salad bars, desert bars, and drink stations all separate made it easier to get what you wanted quickly. Having the deli and pizza counters nearby but separate worked well.

It sounds like we were on 2 different ships :D

Although I think op's review was fair I think we were on the same Sunshine as you. Loved everything about her except the design of the comedy club.

We also just got off the Sunshine. I was aware of the layout so that was not a big deal. This was our 10th Carnival cruise and by far the best cruise director (Jamie) and the best room steward we have ever had.

I didn't think the public spaces were crowded at all. I had read complaints about the Comedy club being booked. It was fine, just arrive on time.

Loved the many food options and the very large Serenity area.

Ports were great. I wouldn't recommend the De Palm Island excursion. I had read good things, but I think we hit it on a bad day.

What room / floor were you on? Where were the leaks? Sailing in a couple of months on the Sunshine - can't wait!
