Excursion Ideas from Carnival Sunshine

Haven't been yet, but our plan us either to do a Bacardi Rum factory tour or tour the forts. Both are easy to get to yourself and far cheaper to do on your own than with a ship excursion.

Hi,

We will be in San Juan over the Thanksgiving week and I am at a loss what to do in San Juan. We are planning on snorkeling in Grand Turk, so we would be more interested in sight seeing.

We will be sailing with you on the Sunshine and this will be our first time in San Juan and we aren't sure what to do either.

Hopefully we will get some good ideas here from your post!

Hi DixieGirl2 and Janet,

We (DH, DS 17 Ds 13) will also be sailing on Sunshine over thanksgiving!! we were just going to take the free trolley to the forts, then back to old san juan and walk around ourselves. Is the Baccardi tour strickly for adults?

We were just in San Juan on the Sunshine in Sept. We went to the Bacardi Plant for the basic tour. It was $12 for each of the 4 adults and the 2 kids were free. The basic tour consists of a welcome drink in souvenir cup and the tour/history of the Bacardi brand. Took about 45 minutes and ended in the gift shop. We bought the $150 limited edition rum that you can only get at the plant. We collect alcohol that you can't get in the US when we travel.

We exited the pier and turned left to walk the short distance to the ferry station. Be sure you get tickets to Catano. Once you cross the bay, exit the station and head right to the closest parking garage about 100 yds down the street on the right. That is where the taxis wait to take you to the Bacardi plant. it is way too far to walk. I think it was $3 per person each way.

If you do it first thing you will have time to walk around the area outside the port or even tour the fort closest to the port.

Tour old San Juan! First, get breakfast as Cafe Mallora - obviously, get the Mallorca. It's cheap and you will not be disappointed. Then, go to the San Cristobal fort. You will pay one entrance fee for both forts. There is a free shuttle with stops all over old San Juan, hop on that and take it around until you see another plaza you'd like to walk around. Have lunch in cafe Puerto Rico. Old San Juan has so many shops you will have plenty to do for one day. We also ate had drinks at Gringos and a snack at Hotel Milano. You will have a great day just hanging in Old San Juan. Enjoy.
