Epic "Mini-Suite" MC/MD

Hi Everyone,

We are not new to cruising, but will be new to Norwegian. We are looking to book on the Epic and had a few questions about the "mini-suite" category. I understand that the cabins are a bit larger than the regular balcony rooms, with the actual balcony marginally smaller. My question is: as these cabins look to be (from the schematic) a bit forward and a bit aft, would we avoid being over the lifeboats? What deck would you suggest we consider, if we didn't want to have the lifeboats directly beneath the view from the balcony.

Any other things we should take into consideration or any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Nancy

We were in cabins 9095 and 9097 back in January and we looked directly down at the lifeboats (was a little disappointed but didn't ruin our trip).

Our balcony was a nice size and I'm pretty sure it was a little bigger in size than a balcony cabin. One of our bathrooms has a larger shower while the other had a tub. Can't remember which was which right now but could let you know if need be.

We were in a MD cabin on deck 8. We were right over the last lifeboat and it wasn't as terrible as I thought it would be. I thought that I would hate our location (we booked a GTY and that was what we got), but I would actually consider booking the same room again. Our balcony was actually larger than those above us and we still had a decent view, especially when looking back towards the wake. Deck 8 was super convenient and our location was close to the elevators, so no long walk down the hallways. I also thought that I would dislike having the bed near the bathroom (since many MD suites have the sitting area near the window), but it wasn't an issue at all. The room was quiet...really, no complaints!

If you have a chance to snag a MD or MX at a discount, go for it. If the cost of a MC is comparable, you might consider moving to deck 9 for a slightly better view. Rooms by the stairs/elevators will be the most convenient, regardless of the floor you are on.

We have been in mini-suite twice - during the TA crossings. We were in MA on deck 11 for the Oct 2011 crossing and then in MD on deck 8 for the Oct 2012 one.

Both (and all mini-suites) are same size.

The MA and MC have bed next to balcony doors and have bathtub, and the MB and MD have bed closer to the entrance and have larger than standard shower.

We prefer the latter category because we favour large shower over the bathtub (which really isn't a soaking tub size).

  • 4 years later...

I am looking at the mini-suite category and am wondering if someone can help me answer a simple question that the cruise specialist that I contacted could not answer for me (this applies for every room category but I will focus specifically on the mini-suite category here).

What is the difference between MA, MB, MC, MD, MX, etc? Which is better ---> best?

I was on the Epic in cabin 14098. This is a mini suite. They used to call it a deluxe balcony. It's a little bit bigger than a standard balcony cabin. The balcony is larger. I had a lounge chair on it.

The shower area in larger. Mine had a bathtub. They alternate tub or shower. Bed near the door has a shower, near balcony has tub. Tub is high and difficult to climb into and get out. 14098 is located on deck 14 aft.

I liked being a few seconds from the gym. I was also entitled to use the spa. I got a tour and had no interest. NCL calls it a mini suite, but it's just a little bit bigger balcony cabin. I think deluxe balcony was a more honest name.
